You could play with a bunch of EvAvers who don't use these cheats :)

I still play (Horde mostly.. trying to break 10k with seriously 2.0) but aren't you appalled at how many glitches are not being addressed by Epic?

i don't think its a case of these not being addressed, i think its more that different parts of the studios are working on different aspects and issues.

Not really, I played WoW for 4 years and there were plenty of bugs that weren't addressed, and still hadn't been by the time I left right before Wrath. You kind of get used to the big man letting the little guy down....sadly :(

Wait, you're comparing a MMO to a console FPS in terms of bugs? Really?

Both are patchable and catchable before being released. It was the first major bug list that I could come off the top of my head while responding.

That's a rather small list by most online game standards, really. Besides, this isn't a PC title we're talking about. "Title updates" have to go through that drawn-out certification process before they can go live. Half of those issues could already be fixed...but we won't see it until their patches are approved.

I would never spend $10 for 3 maps for any game no matter how good they are and I really like Gears of War. They sold like 3 million copies of this game if 1/3 of the people buy the maps that's 10 million if it cost them more than $500,000 to make those 3 maps they need to examine how they do things.
Xbox live has made developers a little greedy lately it seems.

I bought them for private (Live) and offline play. I understand people's frustrations with DLC, but the reality is that the market is very large, and none of us will be happy with all aspects of it, any more than we like all the food, or the pricing of it all, at our local supermarket.
The best thing to do is to refuse to buy what you do not like. I didn't plan on buying the maps myself, but I love the game (offline and privately; I don't mess with matchmaking). Ten bucks isn't much for me, frankly. I'm doing alright.

I am sure with some basic math and a itemization of what GoW2 offers with dollar values associated with each point would show that 3 maps for 10 dollars is a slight rip off. I would think 4.99 would be a better choice in all regards.

"Value" is extremely subjective. I valued it for ten (though NOT for matchmaking; I hate random online play and all its asshattery). Others may not. I am sure that opinions will differ on that.

You can say that about any game, movie, album or other piece of software. Don't bother with that argument, because it's automatically invalidated by the fact that you're posting from some piece of hardware utilizing a series of ones and zeross that you most likely purchased at one point or another. It makes you a hypocrite at that point.
These maps are worth $10 to many. I, for one, won't bother with them because I don't play the game online and, as such, it would be a bit of a waste. While I'm certainly comfortable financially, I waste more than enough money as is on things I use...so, I'm not going to waste an extra $10 for something I'll never even touch.

Really? Seriously? Really?. You're not paying for something that is *meant* to be a tangible asset. You're paying for the labour to create the intangible asset that you so enjoy playing. Maybe if you think like that you should GET THE HELL OFF THE INTERNET. It's the future.

Anyone thinking this way comes off as a little paranoid to me. You get the exact same thing, physical media or not.

I used to think like you, but that was 1997. Once Steam and XBLA came along, and once I realised that I was sick of having a mountain of cardboard and plastic in my home I really started to enjoy digital distribution. Also many, not all, games are cheaper on Steam than at retail, even here where we typically get ass raped on game prices.
Jesus. These days a game typically comes with a box and a CD. Is the CD and box really that important to you? Can't you just burn your own CD, just like how Steam lets you?
I like cheaper prices and less junk.

Personally, I wouldn't pay for any additional content short of a complete expansion. 10 bucks for three maps is a rip off.
Console developers should start releasing their map creation tools on the PC, and then distribute good maps via Live. Asking people to pay for maps is greedy, especially when the average, regular CSS player has 20+ maps to play. All for free.

How many people are still playing that with all it's free maps? Contrast that to what Epic did with Gears: Charged for the maps and had a tonne of people playing it for years.

I didn't know steam let you burn a copy. I have steam and about 8 games, can i play geometry wars and the half life games i have with these copies that i make without being logged on to the steam server? Can i play them without steam installed at all?
If i can in burn a steam game put it in my closet and in 10 years then pull it out and play it without being online or without going to gamecopyworld world to put it some crack then thats fine with me. Its all about preservation for me. Its mine, steam will go away one day and i dont want to lose my games. Im a collector.

I get that, I really do. I used to collect games myself, and used to love how games came with Huge Ass Maps(TM) and cool trinkets and the like. Bonus points if they were actually useful in game. I recently parted with a mint copy of Ultima IX Dragon Edition, say what you will about the game (I loved it personally) that thing had a tonne of cool swag in it. Fortunately, I sold it for $200, which took some of the sting out of it.
These days however, despise carting shit around with me and having a lot of material possessions. That's not some anti-materialism hippy crap either, it's just inconvenient (that said, I do like the tangible environmental benefits of less CDs, boxes etc).
As for Steam, you have some valid points.

Are you really going to draw parallels between a hugely acclaimed title, and a not-so-popular title? Seriously? I don't even remember the last time I heard anyone mention UT3.

I like how this thread started out with Pluvious saying he won't buy the Gears 2 maps until Epic addresses a bunch of bugs and exploits and now you guys completely derailed it by debating the merits of digital delivery versus physical media. Get a room already!

Thanks for noticing.. I thought I had a valid point. The glitching is getting wAAAY out of hand, and is really killing the game I think. They need to address these problems ASAP and charging us for a couple of maps is quite insulting. :(
Turns out you can shoot through a shield glitcher with the standard COG/Snub pistol.

It should be at that point where the little guy stops giving the big guy his mooney.

The big guy can't afford to make stuff like this unless they charge for it. It
s 2008 people, get over it.
I will say though, these maps are a bit overpriced and I will be voicing my opinion by not purchasing them. I suggest most of you do the same and quit your pointless bitching. 2008 soon to be 2009 people...

Since you asked, it's "gyp". Also, some consider it an ethnic slur against Gypsies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roma_people), kind of like saying you've been "jewed".
A decent discussion of that here (http://www.defectiveyeti.com/archives/000648.html) (just the article, i won't vouch for the comments since I stopped reading those after the first two).

ive been playing gears 2 since it came out and not once have i seen anyone glitch in it yet. as for the maps and the price its the same for alot of games halo 3 for example are bringing out a whole new campaign along with the maps and yet they still havent adressed some of the problems with the matchmaking yet so how they can do that i dont know...
We quit playing it because of the matchmaking issues and the glitching issues. It does not make it fun when people are glitching the whole time. It got the point where it was every map and every game.
I had multiple experiences where I was getting chainsawed with a pistol or shotgun. There is also the shield glitch issue which everyone was using. It was getting annoying when we're leading in wingman and some asshole would disconnect and kick us all out.
I would have kept playing but these issues were ruining the experience. I was glad to get my 44 dollars in trade in for it. I would have paid for a patch over the maps any day of the week.
