...while in the real world Japanese people seem to pick up the DS only.

Hardly a very accurate poll, is it? Just some random 1000 people?

1000 people is a large sampling size, so if they don't have large non-sampling errors the poll should be accurate to within 5%.

I was also thinking something similar to that.

The poll didn't take into account what people already owned.

in a related poll, 75% of the remaining quarter of the 0.2% that made up the 5/8th's of all cat owners, said they would prefer a GP32.

I find it bizarre that 60% of people said they weren't going to buy any games.. surely if you buy a new console you'll want new games? Unless they're replacing a blown PS2 hehe

Well, here's the part you're overlooking...

"Nikkei News polled 1000 people in Japan, on what they are planning to purchase in the upcoming Christmas holidays, 12.9% said they plan to buy new console system(s), 33% of which are planning to purchase a PSP. Here are the breakdowns:"

Only 12.9% of those 1000 people actually answered the question of what console they are going to get.... so 129 people. The rest weren't getting a console at all, so didn't answer the question of which they would buy.

Still a valid poll?.... Maybe. Relavent? Not really.

I don't know, but 129 people definitely doesn't seem like enough to come to any conclusion over.

An extra 129 people buying a PSP is about a 300% increase, isn't it?
