Raven Software and Activision send along word that Quake 4 for the Xbox 360 is now shipping to retailers.
It's "Lock and Load" for the Global Defense Force as id Software and Activision, Inc. announced today that QUAKE 4 for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft has shipped to retailers nationwide. This next chapter in the futuristic war between the Earth and the Strogg transports players into the boots of Matthew Kane, an elite member of the legendary Rhino squad as they, along with an armada of Earth's finest soldiers, invade the home planet of the barbaric aliens threatening to annihilate Earth. QUAKE 4 for Xbox 360 is available at retail outlets for a suggested retail price of $59.99 and carries an "M" (Mature - Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language) rating by the ESRB.
Developed by Raven Software and executive produced by id Software, QUAKE 4 picks up only moments after the events of the epic QUAKE II, with the Earth's fleet launching a massive offensive to the planet Stroggos. As Matthew Kane, gamers invade the alien stronghold fighting alone, along side other Marines, and in mechanized walkers and hover tanks in incredible combat missions against the Strogg and their disturbing amalgamations of man and machine. Built on id Software's revolutionary DOOM 3 technology, QUAKE 4 also features the world renowned fast-paced multiplayer competition-style gameplay of the historic QUAKE III Arena. Incorporating Capture the Flag, Arena Capture the Flag, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and an all new Tournament mode for up to 8 players on Xbox Live online gaming system or System Link, QUAKE 4 is poised to set the standard for online multiplayer bragging rights.
QUAKE 4 also contains hours of bonus content, including behind-the-scenes videos and interviews plus a complete version of QUAKE II, re-engineered exclusively for Xbox 360 featuring up to 4-player support for co-operative play and multiplayer support over System Link.

Two quick questions. Anyone whos played this on the PC, is it worth getting ( my primary machine is a laptop, so the vid card sucks pretty harsh). Second, anyone know what size of multiplayer games it supports? Im pretty heavy into DoD right now and am about ready for a new online shooter to go with PGR3. Its either Quack4 or DoD. Currently leaning toward DoD.

I've heard the new Quake game isn't a knock your socks off must have and if you are still not sick of the WW2 genre then you pretty much owe it to yourself to get the new COD game.

I finally received my Quake 4 t-shirt (pre-order order) today. Took them only a month after I got the game..
Finally! I can't wait to play Quake again!

Well.. No. The game while certainly not boring, it's nothing special, mediocre at best, and im playing the game at 1024x786 + 2XFSSA (High Details) roughly Xbox 360 Quality, and it doesn't look THAT special, also the voice acting is terrible, the guns lack punch, even the machinegun sounds like shit, netcrazy is right, Call of Duty2, wich I also played its a lot better, and despite not being as fun as the first one, the battle on hill 400 will make up for it. And it seems to run better on X360, so go for it, even though i was playing @ 1024*786 2x Fssa with Mid to High settings i saw no slowdowns on an aging machine (athlon xp 2200+, 1 GB ram, BFG 6800 GT OC). but thats just me

Dont compare graphics when not running maxxed out... also dont talk shit about how something runs with your system... I love hearing "My ten year old pc with 1kb in ram cant run CoD2! Get a 360!!#%!@#" not that yours is bad but still. Too many damn comparisons for no reason.
But yeah CoD2... Q4 is still good just in short spurts.

I dunno, I really enjoyed Quake 4, yeah CoD2 is better, but Quake 4 was so tight, and polished. And I dunno what your talking about Quake 4 is easily among the best looking games out. The multiplayer is really what drags the game down. The SP is really, really tight. But the multi just feels tacked on. But by all means get Quake 4 for 360, i certainly dont regret getting for PC, I really, really liked it. Plus it comes with Quake 2 with coop!

Shit yeah! It also came with the DVD version on PC, and its still fun after all those years! Also its alot of fun looking at how much better the Quake 4 versions of the enemies look then the Quake 2 ones. Quake 4 looks unreal, if you ask me. And I thought the voice acting was way above average.

Damn you! And I was decided on CoD2 finally!
Is it updated graphics, or still vintage 1993 era pixelicous? Im buying the shooter based on online play as I really couldnt give a damn about the single player. So basically it comes down to which has better multiplayer, CoD2, Q4 or PDZ. Sadly, I can only afford 2 games at launch. An updated online 32 player Q2 would be a damned good selling point for Q4 though :)

Well CoD2 only has 8 player online on the 360, Q4's online is quake 3, but not quite as tight, and PDZ....no one knows! Also, I'll be buying Q4 for xbox 360 if they uped the graphics on Q2 for it.

I'm not sure if Quake 2 has upgraded graphics. All it says is that it has been "re-engineered"

I think the only changes for Q2 is really for compatibility.
Mulligan please "waste your time".
And unless youre a HUGE HUGE HUGE Quake fan I wouldnt get it over CoD2, that has much more satisfying multiplayer.
By the way... Im pretty sure that Quake 2 is only on the PC... seems like you guys are saying its on the 360 as well...
