According to the following article (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1676&Itemid=2) on Next Generation (http://www.next-gen.biz), the Xbox 360 and associated gubbings are selling like hotcakes on eBay - despite the console itself not even being officially available.
According to eBay statistics, more than 8,200 Xbox 360 items have sold on the auction site in the past 30 days with an average price of $525 and an average of 15 bids per auction.
That makes a staggering $4,305,000 - (four million, three-hundred-and-five-thousand dollars) in the last 30 days!
Jeepers! Who said there was no hype for the 360?

Though that's "xbox 360 items." I wander how many of those were actual xbox360's and what the average price for those were.
Then how many of them are games and what are their average price.
To wide a range of items to be lumped together.

Damn, I forgot to amend the headline!
Done it now, though!
I wonder how many of these are pre-ordered systems that the seller will not have on launch day.... ...that is going to suck.
haha.. ..lunch day. *shakes head*
Wonder how many were:
"Brand new XBox 360 box*!!!!!"
*Box is empty

I bet most of the e-buyers are hardcore gamers though.

Maybe I'm not hardcore enough. But I don't understand why people are coming into EB and getting their play and charge kits, and games, and calling every five minutes to see if PGR3 is in yet, when they don't have the console in their hands.

"Jeepers! Who said there was no hype for the 360?"
I didn't say there was NO hype, but I did say, and still claim, that the marketing for the 360 is the worst since the Dreamcast. Anyone can sell what's already been sold - what's hard is selling to new people. Sony *spit* is damn good at convincing people who would normally not buy their product that they really need to buy it. Apple is even better.
MS's launch for the Xbox was a marketing triumph. Everyone knew what an Xbox was, months before it came out. Everyone. Not just gamers or digerati, but regular folks. And this was with zero brand-name recognition, or worse, negative brand-name recognition. They didn't get to #2 by keeping the Xbox a secret.
Their goal for Xbox360 should not be to keep #2, but to slap Sony out of the way and get #1. So far, it looks like they are resting on their hard-earned but insufficient laurels. That is a huge mistake.
Launch party in the desert. *sigh*

But Microsoft is trying to bring in new people. They are going after the MTV crowd. Did you not see that next week is GameORZ week on MTV? LOL!

It reminds me of the Sega marketing. For the aforementioned, tragic, Dreamcast. Heartbreaking that the Dreamcast STILL has better games and graphics than the PS2.

I'm still trying to figure out how Sony marketing suckered me into buying a PS2 near launch, something I'd normally never do. They've got some sort of Jedi mind-trick crap going on over there.

I bet Micro$oft is buying the items back at exorbitant prices, solely to get this kind of positive press.

You poor misled soul. Don't you know the idea that tin foil hats protect you from mind reading rays was propagated by the government (http://people.csail.mit.edu/rahimi/helmet/) to increase the effectiveness of said rays?
The helmets amplify frequency bands that coincide with those allocated to the US government between 1.2 Ghz and 1.4 Ghz. According to the FCC, These bands are supposedly reserved for ''radio location'' (ie, GPS), and other communications with satellites (see, for example, [3]). The 2.6 Ghz band coincides with mobile phone technology. Though not affiliated by government, these bands are at the hands of multinational corporations.
It requires no stretch of the imagination to conclude that the current helmet craze is likely to have been propagated by the Government, possibly with the involvement of the FCC. We hope this report will encourage the paranoid community to develop improved helmet designs to avoid falling prey to these shortcomings.
Now you know ;).

At some point I hope to have someone successfully explain to me how having so much of a broken supply-chain that there is a black market for your products is a good thing. It seems more indicative of a failure to manufacture, supply, and plan both to me. Success is when your sales and your supply have equilibrium, and there is -still- a black market for "xtreme" customers.

All I know is that a friend of mine sold his prerelease Xbox 360 for around $1100 on Ebay...

1) Yup, MS is buying back all of their products on e-bay to get good press.
2) MS really isn't appealing to new customers...there are so few 'converts' to 360.
3) Yes, the 360 will sit unpurchased on shelves throughout Christmas.
4) MS manipulated supply chains to create an artificial shortage of 360's.
Wait, did 4 somewhat contradict 3?
Wow, if I see one more comment about the superiority of PS3 and how it has already won the console war, I will gouge out my eye.
1) We have never seen an actual PS3 game running on finalized PS3 hardware. It hasn't happened.
2) We have no basis for the official PS3 makeup...they are still tinkering with the design.
3) The PS3 launch date has yet to be cemented. With the issues surrounding the BR drive and its loading speed plus the PS3's cost to make, we really have no idea when it will hit US shores and for how much. Many analysts have said that it may slip into 2007.
4) Americans are somewhat impatient...they will not all wait for a PS3. Especially those gamers who grew up on Atari and now have decent disposable income.
My biggest issue is that people are denying the fact that 360 is going to sell out. If there is no demand, why is it that you can't go into any location that pre-sells 360's and get one? When I was in EB the other night, I saw two couples come in looking to get a 360 for their children? Do you really think that these people are loyal to what brand of videogame they buy? Their kids ask for it and they try to get it. Xbox will have better developer support due to the ease of their tools and the lower cost for designing on their system.
It's really easy to compare a vaporware system with pretty CG movies to an actual console that you can play games on now. The vaporware system wins everytime...in your head. IU'll take the 360 I have played and had fun with. Oh, and I assure you that millions of other people will to.

Twigz, I'm not sure where you got the PS3-will-win vibe, but I don't see it.
My previous post already said all that I'd say about the Xbox360 launch, but I'd add in case it wasn't clear that I think the 360 will definitely sell out, and will compete heartily with the PS3, but with better marketing, manufacturing, and supply-chain planning it would sell out -much- more and have a chance of overtaking the PS* franchise. As it is, I think it's underwhelming as a launch.
