Gentlemen, swing your sabers! Tomorrow we're going to get our first real look at the upcoming Bioware MMO, The Old Republic (http://www.swtor.com/news/article/20081211_001) where YOU TOO can be a Jedi (probably)!

The first in-game footage of BioWare's upcoming PC MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic will be released tomorrow, December 12, the studio and LucasArts have revealed.

The footage will mark the beginning of a video documentary series that examines the game, which is set in the timeframe of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series.

Thanks Shacknews (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/56319).

So, who's excited!?

Not me :p. I'd rather have a KOTOR 3, plus I never played an MMO before. Tried WoW for about a week and that was it.

I'll have a look for sure, but like Ozena I'd rather see KOTOR 3.

When Star Wars Galaxies was coming out, I was worried that nobody would play anything but a Jedi. This one worries me for the same reason. Here's hoping the other roles have enough awesome to stand on their own.

That's enough reason for me to not play a Jedi.

That Dragon Age reminds me quite alot of EQ2 in character design and overall look.

Who wants to be a Jedi? Being a Null (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/10/15/breaking-point/) is where it is at.

Wow. That isn't a good thing. EQ2 has the most boring and generic characer designs I have ever seen.

Quite possibly the only upcoming mmo that might pull me away from wow, aah Star Wars Galaxies how I miss thee.. and yet, how I hated it. Please be good, please be really, really good!

Meh, I like Star Wars, but not for the Jedi. I'm more for buzzing around the galaxy in my own little cruiser (as is capital ship class cruiser) raiding and pillaging stuff and for whatever reason I think thats not going to happen.

I still don't like the fact that the new KOTOR is a MMO...but it's Bioware.

Same here. It gives me so many conflicting emotions, it's not fair. I don't want to get sucked into an MMO . . .

Agree. I was really hoping for another CRPG-style KOTOR - ah well. Also, Bioware is a 10 minute drive from my house, so I pretty much have to support them.

Honestly, what I want to see is playable droids. I played an astromech unit (like R2-D2) in the tabletop game and had loads of fun.

Jedi is over-rated.

Why are we looking at this and hyping it up now, when the game is about two years out? What are the chances that whatever they show here is going to make it to launch anyways?

Do companies do this just to drum up investors or something?

Honestly without giving it too much thought... because I am not on their payroll... (pssst Bio-ware call me I have ideas!), there are only a few ways I can conceivably see this game working.

1: Players cannot make or become Jedi's. This will be thrilling for about a few months until the whining masses blubber the game to death making people leave in droves, either because A: they cave and add Jedi's causing the whine fest to reach obscene proportions from those who feel slighted for any of dozen's of reasons, or B: they say we will not add Jedi's and never add them meaning people lose interest.

2: Players can make jedi's but other player classes (ie Smugglers, Stormtroopers, droids, etc) are larger than life and powerful in their own respective ways. This could be the worst solution of all, if Jedi's are only as good as the next guy, then will anyone really feel special? Which means slow attrition as people realize they are not Jedi super powered and get bored with the game.

3: In my opinion the ideal solution would be to deny anyone to be Jedi's, but allow padawan's (Jedi's in training) people get to feel cool because they are like Jedi's, given a minor power to select among a group of powers (bonus if they make it so no one can get all of the available power's to add diversity).
Then just balance other classes around this concept. Smugglers are the best at .. for example shooting guns, droids are best at taking damage.. all just for example.

Anyways just a few thoughts from me.
