As part of Update 38, Massive real-world advertising will be introduced to The Matrix Online game world.

Real-world ads will begin to appear on billboards once Update 38 goes live. Player favourite ads such as those for Slumberil, and The Sentinel will remain, and the new ads will not affect the performance of the game. As in the real-world, ads will change over time to feature new more current products and services.

Now how about making the game free.

Well, for the 25 people playing this game I suppose that is money well spent by advertisers.

Really, imagine if they made the game free and it was paid for by billboards and tickers.

I'd give it a go.

Well, personally, as long as it merges the game environment to be more realistic (ala The Matrix Universe), I would not complain about it. But if I start seeing Pepsi ads in Call Of Duty 3, I will not support the game. *Not like I support this game either, but it doesn't really mess with the setting for the players that do play it*

Also imagine if it didn't suck and the IP associated didn't suck either.

the ads fit the universe and aren't like pop ups, so really they ad to the atmosphere if you ask me.

I like the idea of ads filling up a cyberpunk universe as that's what a cyberpunk universe is supposed to be.

Was I the only one that thought the use of ads in Chaos Theory obscene? Cohesive world and immersion whatever, it bugged the shit outta me. Seriously you couldn't avoid the damn axe logo at one point.

I could support this if it made the game cheaper / free. But not without benefit to the player (not that I would ever buy this game anyways) =)

Yep, only 2 people care about The Matrix Online. Sounds about right. :)

If you're "trying to have fun", you probably shouldn't be playing Matrix Online.

This is not news. There have been ads in MxO since day one, mostly for WB movies.

Your right and I HATE the presidence that sets. I try to avoid TV for the same reason, (but my gf is addicted so that doesn't really play out).

As for people who thinks this makes it more "realistic". PU-LEEESE. Here's why that's the wrong attitude:
Game Designers = wants to make the game more realistic
Advertisers = want to do ANYTHING POSSIBLE to make you look at their ads

So instead of having ads that are satirical, or appropreate, or blend into the background and help the realistic setting, you get anoying, repetative, attention grabbing crap specifically designed to draw you OUT of the game and make you buy the product. These guys whored out their game, pure and simple. Now it's just an advertising tool.

I predict NO-AD files like NO-CD files found at GameCopyWorld.

I predict this game dies by mid of next year.
