Some of the first reviews of True Crime: New York City as beginning to pop up online.
Cube.IGN (http://cube.ign.com/) & Xbox.IGN ([url=http://xbox.ign.com/) gave it a 7.8 out of 10 (http://cube.ign.com/articles/667/667747p1.html). Their parting comments were...
True Crime: New York City does a whole lot of things right, but it doesn't take very many risks. What this means is that it's a solid title through and through, but you won't find a whole lot of water cooler moments in there. Fans of the genre will dig it, and fans of violence and plenty of swearing will certainly like it. If you're tired of the whole GTA thing and want more substance, this may not be the game for you. For everyone else though, TC: NYC is definitely worth checking out.
While 1up (http://www.1up.com/) gave it a 6.0 out of 10. (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3145751&did=1) And their parting comments include...
It'll take most people an average of 10 or 12 hours to complete the major cases, but it'll take another twenty-plus hours to unlock everything and to fulfill the 100 percent completion rate. But the seemingly countless number of exacerbating problems prevents it from being a robustly entertaining game, and sadly remains in the shadow of its bigger-name brethren.
