Some are calling Dead Space a "Resident Evil... in spaaace!" No matter what you call it, there appears to be agreement that it succeeds in being terrifying and visually impressive, but that the gameplay can be repetitive. The overall critical response has been very kind to this game, earning it an 89% average at Game Rankings. So what did you think of it?

This is definitely one of my favourite games this year, if not this generation.

The campaign could have been a little longer, but it probably just seemed short since I couldn't stop playing. Perfect mix of action with tense moments, and damn, the gunplay is fun.

Plus the game is absolutely gorgeous.

I'm kind of sad, since this was one of the first game I rented when I started doing so to save some cash. I wish I had bought this, I could see myself playing through 3 or 4 times. The whole game is just solid; story, gameplay, sound (music, sound effects and voice acting), graphics and overall experience.

This is one of the games that made me think "Wow, this is really next-gen."

Pretty solid title in my opinion. Granted it's pretty linear as it goes with paths, but that didn't bother me much. I enjoyed the story and how it played out. The items/menus were well done. Fun title that I look forward to playing through again sometime.

Best single player experience this year.

Best single player experience this year.

This pretty much says it all. I just picked it up again after a few weeks of Gears2 diversion, and loving it. Just got into Chapter 10, and it hasn't slowed down once since the beginning. Pulse pounding, adrenaline rush of a game.

Fantastic game for the most part. Great graphics and audio and action. Boss fights were memorable.

On the downside, the monsters were very generic. The story was an amalgamation of every bad sci-fi horror plot, and those mounted-gun parts were awful.

I am going to make myself unpopular and say I didn't think too much of this title. Main character is like a robot, story is predictable and the other characters unlikeable... and it just didn't grab me.

I really liked the no-HUD thing they had going, that was neat, and the quest pathing thing is also nice... apart from that, it felt like Doom 3 (minus the monster closets), and I played (and finished) that... and don't want to repeat it.

To be fair, I am only a little way in, so perhaps it gets better, but with all the other good titles that pulled me away from this, I am unsure I will get back to it.

Glad I bought this one - been replaying to pull a few of the achievements (maxed out all weapons, just got the One Gun achievement). Not very happy w/ the DLC offered, though. New skins for my gear in a single player game just doesn't cut it.

I think you make a valid point - I haven't really grown to care too much about the other characters, but that hasn't really stopped me from enjoying the game.

No HUD is brilliant, the monsters are scary and really awesome in their design (tentacle waving infected babies anyone?) and you can't help but wonder what happens next. I think you could make a comparison to Doom 3, but only because they both happen to be set in space inside of a ship - the gameplay is totally different and if Dead Space had been anywhere else I'm not sure the comparison could be drawn.

Overall a solid game and if you have the computer to put the settings on high, a beautiful game as well.

Doom has always been about giant guns, big monsters and even bigger explosions. Dead Space was so much more subtle than that...they're both sic-fi horror games, yeah, but Dead Space has a bit more class.

Well, it sorta is Resident Evil in space...only its Resident Evil done better than Resident Evil. It's easily the best survival horror I've played in years.

there needs to be more quality games like this in EA's arsenal. Kudos to the developers. I like how it felt similar to system shock 2 with the upgrades and logs. If this franchise can be pushed a little further into a system shock like experience, it will be all the better.

For what it set out to do, I think its great. Now maybe you can develop a story that isnt just about monsters took over. Maybe something a tad more interresting. Maybe wrap an rpg into the fabric.

Eww. No thank you, keep your RPG's away from my Isaac.

Anyway, I don't know if you guys saw when it was posted here on Evil Avatar, but the team behind Dead Space are forming their own studio. Still under EA, but hopefully this means they'll keep giving us awesome titles like Dead Space.

I agree with you. The game wasn't that great. I mean the graphics are pretty, and the hud was well done, but in the end it was pretty predictable and not at all scary. Of course, I never finished, cause I got bored and quit part-way though. Maybe it got better, but I kind of doubt it.

Even if you don't like horror games, it is still excellent.
I normally don't do scary games, but I followed this game from conception to birth.
Great story, nice scares, awesome weapons...

I would have babies with this game.
