GamesRadar has posted a preview (http://www.gamesradar.com/pc/company-of-heroes-tales-of-valor/preview/company-of-heroes-tales-of-valor/a-2008112613524669043/g-20081126131728612069) of Relic Entertainment's upcoming standalone expansion for their popular WWII RTS, Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor.Tales of Valor doesn’t sound like a typical RTS, and it doesn’t play like one either. In the demo we sampled, we were dropped off in the middle of Villers-Bocage, France, and were charged with clearing the town of its antitank guns. Small groups of Allied soldiers and their pitiful vehicles were no match for the Tiger tank’s tough armor and powerful firepower. But when you’ve got a squad of enemies launching rockets at you from a derelict building on your left, turrets peppering you with fire through an alley on your right, and a caravan of Allied armor approaching from the rear, Tales of Valor’s battles get intense pretty quickly.

The main thing that stands out in my mind from playing Company of Heroes is that the units actually felt like they had some life in them and weight behind them. The way the soldiers took cover, the blast of a tank, etc.

Too many RTS games make me feel like the units are just icons.

Too many RTS games make me feel like the units are just icons. My feelings exactly. You felt like they were your men and treated them as such.
