IncGamers managed to track down BioWare's James Ohlen and ask him a few questions about LucasArts' upcoming MMORPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic.SW:TOR is being developed by Bioware in Austin and not at Bioware Headquarters in Edmonton. Why is that? Who is Bioware Austin, and what games have they been working on prior to TOR?

BioWare’s Austin studio was opened in 2006, and the team here took on the development of the Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO. BioWare has actually been interested in creating an MMO for about a decade, and we were simply waiting for the right opportunity to do it. Austin has been at the forefront of online game development since Origin created Ultima Online in the late 1990’s. There’s a rich talent pool here and the cost of living is reasonable, so Austin was the perfect fit for a new studio. The team in Austin is a mix of experienced MMO developers as well as experienced RPG developers from Edmonton. You can find the full interview right here (http://www.incgamers.com/Games/2383/interviews/158/Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic).

If you're looking for more info on Star Wars: The Old Republic, GamesRadar has posted the cover story (http://www.gamesradar.com/pc/star-wars-the-old-republic/preview/star-wars-the-old-republic/a-20081120114019116002/g-20081021163120143024) from this month's issue of PC Gamer.

The online version does not appear to include PC Gamer's box outs found in the print version of the article.

One item of note from a box out on page 35:

"LucasArts wants the loyal fans of its previous Star Wars MMO, Galaxies, to know that the birth of The Old Republic does not spell the end for that online world, which celebrated its fifth anniversary in June. Galaxies is still introducing content on a bimonthly basis, plus larger updates four times per year, such as the recent addition of Battle of Hoth and a built-in digital customizable card game. The next update will include a Droid Master class that creates custom droids, then assumes control of them to do his bidding."

You can find out more about the Galaxies Battle of Hoth update right here (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70678).

I'm starting to open to the idea of a KOTOR MMO...I still want KOTOR III though.
