It's a match made in heaven. (http://forums.introversion.co.uk/darwinia/viewtopic.php?t=2707) This is what Valve were talking about in last week's Update News.

Valve and Introversion today announce that Darwinia, Introversion’s multi-genre title, will be available to gamers worldwide on December 15, 2005 via Steam.

Darwinia is the second release from Introversion, a UK-based development group originally founded by three university students who set out to create games that summon the pioneering spirit of the industry’s early classics. The follow up to this group’s debut title (Uplink), Darwinia is a captivating mix of multiple genres including real-time strategy, arcade, and puzzle games.

PC Gamer magazine UK says, “Darwinia will remind you why you love gaming so much." And Eurogamer.com calls Darwinia, “This year's underground classic.”

“In today’s market, it’s incredibly difficult for an independent developer to secure worldwide distribution for a new property, let alone for one that attempts to blend genres and offer a wide variety of gameplay styles,” said Vicky Arundel, head of marketing at Introversion. “Through Steam, however, we are able to offer Darwinia to millions of gamers and early adopters the world over.”
This won't affect boxed copies of the game or existing purchases, but will mean you can't download it from Introversion's own store any more. They've also taken the demo offline to 'encouarge impulse buys for the first month'. While you ponder over how that helps, you might also want to download it from FileRush (http://www.filerush.com/download.php?target=darwinia-demo2.exe).

Further thoughts. (http://www.steamreview.org/?p=24)

Hell yes. I hope there's some way to import existing copies of the game into Steam. I want to get on board should they ever add multiplayer.

Excellent, and they are offering a 10% preorder discount as well. I'll be taking advantage of that.

How many EAers have played this? Is it all it's cracked up to be?

I played the hell out of the demo. Thought it was fantastic. I'm not sure why I didn't buy the full game, although I'll be sure to take advantage of that preorder discount now.

Yes, very much so, if you are able to let go of your RTS preconceptions.

Edit: does anyone think this (http://www.steamreview.org/?p=24) link in the newspost would be a little too opportunistic?

Cool! I played this game a lot on a friend's computer but never bought a copy myself. I would be all about buying it over Steam. Those guys deserve as much money as they can get.

I have played a few of the levels in Darwinia and can absolutely say that this is a great game. A breath of fresh air in the way it adheres to a few different genres, but cannot be typecast as any of them. I never purchased it, but I will now for sure being that Steam will make it easy to do so. Kudos to Valve and Introversion for making this readily available via Steam. Keep up the good work!

The game is exellent. It is also failrly easy to make new levels for it, if you have any talent in that area.

This rates as one of the best things to happen in 2005 for videogames (IMHO).

A deserving product, an innovative company and a reliable line of distribution. Outstanding.

I own both Uplink and Darwinia and they are fantastic games in every respect. I recommend them both to any gamer who's tired and has a "seen it all before" attitude.

Steam just levelled up!

It's a pretty fun game, but not as OMGWTFTASTIC as the internet makes it out to be.

It's a pretty fun game, but not as OMGWTFTASTIC as the internet makes it out to be.

But the fact that it's finally getting exposure along with the most popular online PC games ever is pretty amazing for the developers. Especially since it's such a fun and unique game.

Awesome. Anyone ever play Uplink? that was another fantastic game.

Uplink is one of the only games to remain on my hard drive for more than 3 years. It is an absolutely awesome game. If only I could figure out which of my friends has my CD of it so I can get my keycode chart back! Stupid copy protection from the 80's!

But seriously, it is a fantastic game. I've been wanting to get Darwinia but was a little gunshy about ordering it. I just might grab it now that Steam is going to offer it. Woo!
