For all of you PC gamers with too much money on your hands, the 512 megabyte edition of the 7800 GTX is here. Don't expect single slot cooling. Also special Samsung memory was used to attain stock clockspeeds.

We sure get a lot of news from the Inquirer around here, huh?

Not any more or less than any other news source.

Perhaps it just stands out more? In any case, on topic and all that, I wonder if enough games are even on the market to take full advantage of this card to make it worth as much as an X box 360, VGA Cables, and any 3 games? Just some food for thought.

if i was in the market to blow $700, i'd probably throw it at this ranther then a console and stuff.

I always thought I was insane for spending $500 on my 6800 Ultra(kickass card and system, but I'm spending less next time). But I know there are people out there that will by a pair of these(yes, I'm jealous). Crazy or rich?

And if I was in the market to buy a private jet, I'd buy one rather than an 18-wheeler.

What was your point again?

He's saying he'd pay more for the cockpit of a jet over a fully functional 18-wheeler. Can't disagree.

Maybe this will drive down the price for the 7800GTX, then affording SLI might be a possibility.

Indeed, look at the detail of those fingers, they don't look like meat mittens to me!

I think his bicep could cut a loaf of bread, or perhaps a tomato.

Has more than just more memory, it is a beast and the new king of the hill video card.

Don't know if my SLI board can fit two dual-slot cards in, though. Use money from next contract for two of these and new x16 sli board, with room for dual-slot cards. Sick. :-)

All the reviews say it's one fast beast... Looks like it's finally time to upgrade my machine to PCIexpress and get one or two of these suckers.

I went with the 256 MB GTX version, with the plan to add a second card into the SLI motherboard in another year or so. It may or may not be worth it. I'll have to see how far the price drops and how much a performance boost it really brings.

Oh my god. I've just come from playing FEAR running on my 6800 with no problems whatsoever and now you can get one of these SUPER BEHEMOTH CARDS.

Did i read £450 for one? I don't believe I did. Did I?

I will get one of these in a year or so :D As long as my games run nice and smooth in 1024x768 with all effects on i'm happy :)

For me this card just isn't needed, yet.

It's a beast though. Anyone getting one?Or two?

If you're willing to drop this kind of stupid money on a video card. Give it to a good charity instead.

Win!!!! :D

We knew nvidia had this waiting, just in case the 1800xt managed to beat a standard GTX in any benches(it did, so N rolled this card out).

I'm a budget gamer, mainly because I have to. But I really cannot spend more that $250, this is in the stratosphere for me.

These cutting edge video cards are all digital penis extenders. One of my friends in Dallas sold racing part modifications for 300 to 400% markup on cost. Same thing with these video cards. They exploit hobbyists and early adopters.

I admit I am a fan of the red faciton.. I am hoping that ATI has been dropping mediocore results on purpose to only match NV to make them drop this product and then release a new driver version that actually makes the Xfire X1### actually look like it's worth spending money on.

I have bought expensive parts in the past so I don't have to even worry about upgrading for a years, at least. I agree it's a niche of a niche marketing, but your response it total flamebait. Try being objective.

$1500 for SLI... that's really insane. I guess the first application that will stress this baby will be 3DMark06 because everything else would run like a dream in something like 2048x1536, 4xAA, 4xAF.

Sad thing is the 3DMark06 shots I saw (at Beyond3D) aren't exactly demanding and that means probably nothing will touch these SLI'd cards for a long time.

if you use the free version of 3dmark, you can't do high resolutions, which is one reason it is pointless for stuff like this.

fear at 1920x1200 and cod2 at 1920x1200 will stress a pair of these---assuming max ingame eyecandy(they stress a pair of gtx oc boards).

If you add some of the features externally that the game doesn't give you menu options for, it can get even worse. I do that for bf2, you can make it look a hell of a lot better than what the ingame menus offer up.

OK, I'll give you that fitbabits. If I DID obtain an 18-wheeler, I would definitely ride atop it, poised as if ready to leap to the cabin and strike!!

There is also an arctic pic that I can't find at the moment because it is getting deleted from every message board by request of Futuremark guys.

EDIT: Found it!

Enjoy:

Purdy. I wonder whos drivers they specially optimized it for.

Taco

They don't specially optimize their application. They simply offer a more open tunnel of communication if you provide them with your first born child.

Honestly was attempting humor with the penis bit. The rest is truth and objective. . . just saying they exploit a niche market, as you seem to agree.

Sorry for the lack of emoticon on the joke.

Nvidia is getting close to 10,000 in thier numbering scheme.... I wonder if they will call that future card the Geforce 10,000, or be pussies like ATI?

Oh my no....I'm just gonna wait for the 9000 GTX or something, rather then getting this or SLI another 7800 GTX (256)

Yeah, don't buy this if your mobo is cramped. If the fan is even slightly occluded, the thing will burn up. SLi might prove to be a big hardware safety no-no on this one.
