Apparently, Spielberg is looking at making Jurassic Park IV! (http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/666/666083p1.html) He shared ideas about the film with students at USC.

Steven Spielberg is taking a personal interest in Jurassic Park again, and some of the bits he cut from the first two films are going to make it into the fourth one.
Beating a dead horse? I'll let the people decide. Also, I found this at ExtraLife (http://myextralife.com/). Thanks to Scott over there.

This will fit nicely with Indiana Jones IV. Maybe we could get a Back to the Future IV, where Marty goes back in time to stop the filming of Back to the Future II.

Hey, the more dinosaurs, the better. Though it might be good if he completely dumps any original cast members this time.

Yeah, I really agree with you.

Hell, the question we need to ask ourselves is this: Which will suck more? The GBA side-scroller or the fps console game? We know this movie will be made and therefore a dozen of sucky games based on it will follow.

Just remember it can't suck as bad as the Alone in the Dark movie. Damn you, Uwe Boll...

i like the jp movies. As longs as the dinos do not turn into zombies dinos and then turn everyone they bite into zombie dinopeoples I am fine. I loved 1 and 3, 2 was cheesy because the used the "dino in a city" bit. Keep in in the jungle, use at least 5 raptors, 1 bad ass, and kill anything that flies.

I didn't know Spielberg directed the trainwreck that was The Lost World...of course, I did all but block it from my memory. I liked the book, though.

Part of me is pleased that Spielberg himself is looking to revive the series...mainly because he's the one that started it, essentially. Plus, he's just coming off of War of the Worlds, which was surprisingly good. If anybody can make me forget the travesties that were JP 2 and 3, he can. I just hope he ignores the Spinosaurus, mainly because they inflated its size to create a "bigger and better" threat for the third movie in a tired series.
Maybe he'll pull a ToHo and ignore the second and third movies in the timeline...

The Lost-World book was so good...then the movie came out and wasn't even remotely close to the book.

Steven, Steven, ...what has happened to you? There was a time when you could do no wrong...when I could depend on your delivering a thoughtful, moving movie. (Actually, I suppose he still can - The Terminal was just such a movie.) But how do you explain 'Minority Report" and "War Of The Worlds"? It's like your forgot the lessons learned from "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Why oh Why?

I was fine with Lost World, even though they through in the ridiculous T-rex city bit, but JP3 was horrendous.

From IGN (http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/666/666083p1.html), where the ExtraLife site ultimately leads:

Spielberg also says that he's taking another look at Michael Crichton's original novel to find parts that would make solid additions to the next movie.
Who else here wishes he had looked at the novels before he made the first two films?

The first JP scared the ever-loving crap out opf me and into another zip code. After that, it was all novelty. I hope that if he's serious, he'll takes some cues form the original that made it so good.

JP 1 is one of the best movies ever; the book is probably my favorite of all time.

JP2 made me cry, I absolutely hated it, and have never watched it since the first night it was open. The dino in the city and "kids digging in the dirst like raptors" parts just ruined it. The book was a decent sequel, but the kids were annoying and the stealth dino was a bit too much.

JP3 was a great popcorn flick. Just average in every way.

I'd still pay money to see JP4 but I think King Kong will scratch the dinosaur itch for me for a while.

I wish they would advance the story instead of just throwing 10+ people on another island to get eaten/chased by dinosaurs for 90 minutes. I don't care if they use the same characters, let just introduce some new plot points and move the story further.

At the end of the first book they left you with the idea that the dinosaurs were getting off the island. I have no idea why Crichton didn't pick up there with Lost World. It lent itself very well to a sequel. You could still have the chasing/eating, but let the mythology move forward.

I hope that at the very least we get a epic Jurassic Park video game out of this that's finally worthwhile. That old Trespasser PC game had such a neat concept, but its application of its core idea was not so great to put it very mildly. I'd love to play a far cry sized game where you run around in jurassic park, hopefully they take another shot at a Trespasser type game but actually do it right this time. I mean the gfx for tresspasser were crap, the physics were ridulously overdone, the levels were dumb, the AI was bad. Really it was a good idea but technology wasnt there yet. Of the people who have seen that little "cry engine 2- presentation cam vid" couldnt you imagine the best Jurassic Park game ever built on an engine like that?
As far as the movie goes, I hope Speilberg makes up for Jurassic Park 3 with something just as epic as the first film, and that being said I hope we dont get a slew of crappy JP themed games as we have in the past.

Well, I liked the first two Jurassic Park movies. The third was lack-luster, but maybe this fourth one can recapture the magic. I have faith in Spielberg.

The third movie felt like I was being bled.

It's... dino attack, talky raptor, oh noes we are going to dyeee!!!!

*BAM* In come the marines, movie over. Fuckin deus ex machina bullshit.

I really wanted everyone to die in screaming horrible pain in JP3.

Wow... Trespasser. Theres a game I'd forgotten about. I remember being so excited to get that game. It was sorta fun for a while. The physics were definently ahead of their time but sadly the game was just too buggy to ever finish. I do believe its the only game to date to make you check out your characters clevage after ever fight though.

Apologies. I read the post quickly, navigated to the IGN article through the ExtraLife link in your comments, and came back to complain about another crap Spielberg production without noticing the first link.

But really, did Spielberg do more than skim Crichton's Jurassic Park before making the movie?

No worries.

But yeah, I'm not sure about all this. I love Spielberg's directing, but this just seems like a sketchy move to me.

I remember hearing a little while back that Spielberg was looking at a jp4 script, and was quoted as saying it was "really really good" and he was afraid it wasn't going to be made because the last one was so horrible. Cool to see he actually followed through on that.
In terms of taking something from the first book, how bout the aviary scene. shit hot!

You guys complaining that the Lost World movie didn't follow the book - what about the original? Jurassic Park the movie and Jurrasic Park the novel are quite different. I won't spoil anything for those who haven't read it, but the movie greatly deviates from the original story, way more than LOTR ever did.

I'm sorry, but when the "movies packed with realistic-looking dinosaurs" virtually chopped up and butchered two very good novels, I think I have a good reason to complain.

In terms of taking something from the first book, how bout the aviary scene. shit hot!

They lifted that scene and reworked it for JP3.

Guys, books don't translate into film directly. I don't bitch because Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy was different than the book. That's just something you have to live with, Jurrassic Park wasn't a motion-picture version of the book, and was never meant to be. It was Stephen Spielberg taking Micheal Crichton's idea, and running with it.

The sooner people realize that stories don't have to translate directly between mediums, the happier they'll be.
