In the greatest tragedy of science fiction today, the SciFi channel's SciFi.com (http://www.scifi.com) has decided to close up shop on their fantastic science fiction online publishing subsite, SciFiction (http://scifi.com/scifiction/):

As SCIFI.COM gears up to expand with exciting new ventures utilizing the newest technology, it will discontinue SCI FICTION, the online publishing division of of the site, at the end of 2005.

In almost six years of groundbreaking online publishing, SCI FICTION and its editor, Ellen Datlow, had an unparalleled record of critical success, earning 10 major awards, including three Hugo Awards, four Nebula Awards and a World Fantasy Award.

We wish Ellen the best and look forward to seeing her future work.
For avid readers and proponents of online publishing such as myself, and countless others, groundbreaking efforts such as SciFiction (http://scifi.com/scifiction/) will be sorely missed. There's a farewell message from Ellen Datlow on the SciFiction site, as well.

I can see why they'd cancel it - winning all those awards must have been really discouraging.

Has everyone lost their god forsaken minds? This is just the next in a long list of "wtf" moves by various companies/organizations.
