One of UFC's top welterweight's John Fitch and his whole fight academy have been released (http://mmajunkie.com/news/13291/ufc-drops-jon-fitch-aka-fighters.mma) due to money issues when asked for a lifetime likeness agreement for the new UFC video game.

It's an interesting story and makes you wonder if this type of deal is common in other sport games.

UFC sounds like a bunch of douchebags, specifically that white guy, he was talking mad shit in that article.

You know, if I were in his shoes I wouldnt be talking shit about fighters that could kill you with their bare hands inside of 60 seconds when properly motivated.

Did you read the article? I'm guessing not.

Fitch was asked to sign away his likeness to the UFC (for this videogame) for the rest of his life. He said he tried to negotiate 5- or 10-year deals, but they said no. So, he said no.

Yah...but there is always that pesky thing called the law that would prevent people from outright killing the guy.

Both parties wanted it there way. The UFC is in a position to say no...so they said no.

Fitch can go and sell his skills to another league. It's the nature of this type of business.

Other sports leagues have Players' Associations to prevent exactly this sort of strong-arming bullshit.

Asking someone to sign away their merchandising rights forever, such that those rights can't be transferred to their next of kin, is unconscionable.

And would not hold up in court, people are entitled to use their real name and likeness to make a living. These lifetime exclusive merchandising rights contracts are very similar to Lesnar's noncomplete with the WWE. What it would accomplish, however, is delaying any potential game from being released while the legal matters were sorted out.

This was not about the fighters though. UFC and this particular agency have been quarreling for years. The fighters represented by Zilkin and Cook were merely caught in the crossfire - some of them had even expressed a willingness to sign the contract when they were released.

Most of it, however, has been worked out already.

He actally challenged Tito Ortiz for a fight. They were going to have a PPV and everything for it... until Tito backed out.

Dana White thinks he is Vince McMahon.
