It's XBox 360 Game weeks folks, with tons of XBox 360 titles hitting the shelves. Also this week is Mario Kart: DS. MK:DS comes out and is Nintendo's debut of their wi-fi service. Unfortunately, the game only supports 4 players over their wi-fi service due to performance issues, and the game's match making capabilities are mediocre at best. The game itself is getting good reviews otherwise. The new True Crime: New York City comes out as well this week. In theaters, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire opens as a Harry Potter movie with a PG-13 rating.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. Hell, the Shin Megami Tensei games are like Pokemon from before Pokemon existed and they're awesome (and kinda Satanic). And it's very possible the monster collecting is optional. All I know is after my wife played the demo for Dragon Warrior VIII she's gone back and been playing VII and loving it. She's really really looking forward to this one. I haven't even had time to try the demo myself.

And I wish I had the cash to get Magna Carta. Gotta get some of that Atlus localized love. I'll just put it really high on the old Christmas wish list.

Xbox 360 who? Seriously, with all the quality titles hitting stores this fall (again) I find it hard to fathom jumping into the "next-gen" just yet.

My PS2 has gotten sick amounts of play time this year. I wonder how the new Wild Arms game will be. That and Dragon Quest 8, baby. I'll be busy until the first or second 360 price drop, that's for sure.

Mario Kart will be my first real online game experience since Phantasy Star on the DC. The Broadband era has left me behind, since I have now lived in two subsequent locations without access to broadband (both in th emiddle of the wood which more than makes up for th lack o broadband). But with Mario Kart, I'll be able to just hop over to a coffee shop or even a fast food restaurant and enjoy some hi-speed gameplay. I anticipate much fun to be had.

Actaully, that's been a part of the Dragon Warrior games since at least DW5. That was back on the SNES, so its been around quite a bit longer then Pokemon.

I think you're mistaken about the poke'mon similarity. They are both RPGs, but DQ and Final Fantasy are both RPGs too, but they are very different in style and gameplay.

Although monsters joining you is part of the game, it isn't required at all. It's a side quest. It's been part of the Dragon Quest series for a long time, and to say that the whole game is like Poke'mon just because of this feature is wrong. Dragon Quest 8 is a wide open, deep RPG modernized with great production values. Don't look for angsty teenagers, DQ is more about fun and creative characters.

DQ8 is going to be great, and the improvements they have made to the American version are wonderful. Orchestral soundtrack, and a fantastic translation. The gameplay is much more engaging than DW7, which was outdated, too long, and uninspired compared to this DQ8 overhaul.

I highly reccomend everyone check out DQ8. If you are on the fence, but you generally enjoy console RPGs, DQ8 will not dissapoint. It cuts a lot of the baggage that many modern RPGs have accumulated. The story is epic in a sense, but the interesting characters are what pull you into the game.

Plus if you get it at Fry's this week, it's only $37.99 and comes with a FF12 demo.

Magna Carta - I'm intrigued. I love the Korean anime art-style, even though I find the animations hilarious. Character runs up and does two sword swings, then watch out as you are treated to a light/effects festival that shows off just how bad ass those 2 sword swings were. The super special attacks can be just as long and ridiculous as the Final Fantasy esper/summons/aeon super attacks, which is also fun.

I laugh the same way at anime that have special attacks, but the little boy in me is nontheless extremely excited every time. :)

My friend who owns a PSP loves it. However, he is infamous to me for his devotion to familiar and beloved franchises.

If you want a critics opinion instead of an anecdotal second hand opinion of a suspect source, then you might want to read some reviews. If you want it short-handed: really good, but short of greatness.

I thought DQ8 wasn't out till next week. Great. I've got mine preordered but I'd gotten myself in a headspace that was excited about it hitting next week instead of this week. Now I'm going to have to stalk my local EB and harass them until they get it in.

And here I was, hoping I could spend the week playing WoW and The Movies. Sigh.

Unfortunately I don't have a PS2, and I'm not planning on getting one. I was, but that's before I decided to pack up and move, selling off most of my videogames in the process. No PS2 for me anytime soon, if ever.
