The developers behind Beyond Good & Evil are working on a FPS for Nintendo's next-gen console. UBISoft is collaborating with Nintendo to make the game experience on their controller as natural as possible.
The game will apparently be unveiled at E3 2006. The only details known about the game are that it will take full advantage of the Revolution's unique controller and that it will take place in a Doom-like setting.

Now there's a team I can actually trust to make a fun game. I will definately keep this on my radar. Oh, no closet-zombies please.

Hmm, that could be interesting. Won't know how big this news is until we see/hear about the actual game being played though.

"it will take place in a Doom-like setting" lame
How about something really new for an FPS theme?

Hmm...I don't see anywhere in the article where it says anything about Mr. Ancel, the guy behind Rayman, Beyond Good & Evil, and King Kong. Ubi Soft's a big company, just because it's an internal development doesn't mean it's that particular team.
Still nice to hear the heads up, though.
edit: Nevermind, just read the headline of the article where it explicitly states it's the BG&E team.

I'm glad to see companies eager to develop for the Revolution. Hopefully other companies will jump on board when game demos start popping up.

How do you know this? No way to tell what the hell they mean with a doom-like setting. Maybe it's just a grim, dark environment.

I dunno. King Kong (the BG&E team's most recent effort) is a nice First Person game but it's repetitive as hell and only 5 hours long and certainly doesn't show me anything I've not seen before. And, to my mind, has one of the weakest last chapters of any game I've ever played.

Are you saying FPS games in Doom-like settings aren't revolutionary? You obviously know nothing.

Does this mean that we get to buy a second controller so we can ducktape it to the bottom of our other controller so we actually have a flashlight???

Unknown spanish website breaks story of Ubisoft developing Revolution game. Must be true, because spanish game journalism is second to none.
Unknown US gameblog or whatever translates spanish news story, adds in fact that it's being developed by the Beyond Good and Evil guys, who happen to be industry darlings. Must be true, because it came from Spain.
Evil Avatar posts translated Spanish news story as news. Laughter is heard from the Blue Tower and VE3Ds IGN Compound.
God, doesn't this site have editors or something?

This is the important part.
This announcement was made shortly after the unveiling of the unique controller of the console, which should deliver great functionality for First Person shooters. Something which, untill now, has lacked in first person shooter games on consoles and makes the PC the king of the genre.
Hopefully this is one of many.

If this was announced around the same time that the Revo controller was revealed, why are we first hearing about it now? And why isn't it all over the usual gaming news sites?
Sounds fishy to me.

Can't they just make another BG&E?
Actually, now that I think about it, why not make sequals to a bunch of great (but not well recieved) games for the revolution. The rev. is trying to sell innovation rather than graphics anyway. So why not let the console churn out sequals to games like BG&E, Ico, and (an unbastardized version) of Prince of Persia:sand of time?

Beyond Good & Evil was such a cool game, consistently all-around fun and refreshing.

Why make another game in a Doom-like setting? There’s already two whole series that never leave that setting; Quake and Doom. Monolith seems to own the office building setting, but how about set it some where oh I don’t know, interesting?
I agree that this announcement is fishy. In the quoted translated section it says absolutely nothing about what game they’re working on. "The French game developer, UBISoft, recently confirmed it's imediate plans regarding Nintendo's revolution. Acording to a company spokesman Ubisoft will work alongside with nintendo in order to provide the best gaming experience possible on the Revolution. This announcement was made shortly after the unveiling of the unique controller of the console, which should deliver great functionality for First Person shooters. Something which, untill now, has lacked in first person shooter games on consoles and makes the PC the king of the genre."How do you get ‘a doom like first person shooter’ out of this translation? Or even ‘we’re currently developing a game that will be shown at E3’. I like the borders on their site though, they're funky.

Yeah, this article said nothing about a "doom-like setting".

This is exactly the kind of news that the Revolution needs to succeed. Publishers who are willing to give this new controller a go. Now they only need about a dozen more of these kinds of announcements and they will be on their way...

Hope the game's actually a spoof on Doom.
And y don't they make a bge sequel. Unlike when the original came out..bge has become quite popular now n the sequel is bound to do well...

Must be true, because it came from Spain.
I have no idea about the article's authenticity, but I don't think it's any less possible just because the news came from Spain. I remember that a spanish gaming mag was the first to get batches of new Twilight Princess screens like twice in a row, so they can't be totally in the dark in terms of news.

How much of the game is in 3rd person Kong mode? That was the best part of the demo for me.

I'd say it comes to 10, maybe 15%
The Kong bits are good but fairly brief but they do convey weight, power and momentum very well. Smacking the hell out of a few T-Rexs is a giggle at first - but that's pretty much all there is to it.
Unfortunately the final stages of the game (Kong in NY) are horribly horribly disappointing with nothing to do except go in a straight line, smash something, turn 90 degrees, wash, rinse, repeat.
A satisfying rental perhaps. But a disappointing purchase.
Note for Draft:
Xenophobia ain't nice and is one step away from racism. I don't really think anybody wants that in our culture.

That bit is perfectly accurate, but their interpretation that it somehow means that 'the BG&E team is working on a Doom-like FPS that's going to be shown at E3' seems to be complete fabrication on behalf of the site that's translating the Spanish article. Now maybe they have some other source that supports their invented news, but the Spanish translation certainly doesn't.
