This is a fairly interesting turn of events for the Halo series. According to CVG (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=201842), who has some new details about the year-out Halo 3 Recon, the game will feature open world gameplay, which is quite a departure from the typical linear style of the past. Additionally, your character will come upon 'crime scenes' of fellow ODST squad members which you'll have to investigate to determine the next course of action.

The goal is to find and investigate the last known locations of your four ODST team mates, using the new 'Visual Mode', which as shown in the debut trailer highlights enemies an items with a hi-tech neon glow, to path your way though the moon-clad metropolis.

Once you reach one of the last-known waypoints of your four teammates you'll find a crime scene - such as a sniper rifle hanging from a street light - and enter a Lost-stlye flashback to earlier that day, where you'll control the squad member for an entire level.

Sounds promising, but is this what Halo fans are after?

Where are the Halo haters that come out of the woodwork for every Halo post? ::crickets::

They can't hate what they don't know... because this is very un-halo-esque.

I'm also curious why everyone refers to flashbacks as Lost-esque flashbacks now. It's not like Lost was the first show ever to use a flashback to tell the story.

Maybe H3:R uses the same sound when a flashback is kicking in?

I'll hate it!

Just what Halo needs: William Peterson as a trooper!

Because Lost made flash backs interesting? Lol <_<

At any rate, I'm a big Halo fan and I can't wait.

This sounds absolutely crazy.

Lunatic at the helm. Watch for cancellation.

That's awesome. I hope Bungie knows what they're doing. Halo hasn't changed much over the years...

Sounds interesting. I hope they flesh out the forensics to be better than the typical system. Anyone remember the forensics in Condemned? "Press A to automatically select the correct tool from the inventory and look for the blatent highlights in the view!" Yawnzor. They may as well said "Press A to automatically solve the mystery so we can quickly move on to the the next bum fight!"
