What's the matter, Billy?
Does console-aimming get you down, make you lose? Are you an adept FPS player on the PC who can't shake the sluggish feeling of the console controller? If so, you need to cheat!
Hoooo no Billy, not that sort of cheating. You need SmartJoy® FRAG™ (http://www.smartjoy.com/) and game your consoles titles with the keyboard and mouse!
That's right Billy, it means you'll finally be able to ingeniously and utterly haul ass the way it's meant to be http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

I personally would ADORE this creation, but I think it would almost make it unfair. I mean the whole point of console FPS games is that if you're good at it you're GOOD at the control scheme. I can honestly say that my Halo stats would take leaps and bounds if I were to use a keyboard and mouse.

Yeah, this really isn't fair is it? But honestly I've never looked down at my controller and just said this isn't right before, and I don't plan on starting now.

Didn't this come out around 6 months ago??
I've heard it doesn't work that great for all games.

Might be a nice idea, except... who the fuck still has a PS/2 keyboard or mouse? why in the name of flaming fuck all didn't they make a USB version?

It's soul purpose is probably for for PC FPS fanboys who are upset that consoles are wearing the FPS crown at the moment. They want to be a part of the community, but not lose their 1337 $|<i11$

Did I miss some incredible console FPS? I'm pretty sure that tons of people play BF2, CS:S, DoD:S, and I would assume F.E.A.R.
Consoles have HALO 2...and Socom if you count it

If this became popular it would destroy the fun of multiplayer console FPS. It would make all of them play just like their twitch gameplay PC brethern. That style of gameplay has its place, but I don't want to see Halo turn into it. It would completely ruin the experience.

Looking at the reviews, it works great.
Trackzero's post reminded me about it, what with the pwning they got and something he said about playing halo2 from PC.
Anyway: If you know, good for you; if you don't, now you do.

First: Worst name in history. What were they thinking?
Second: This is old, really old.
Third: My desire for a mouse/keyboard combo for consoles springs from the genres of games it could allow, not from the per-pixel aiming advantage I might get in FPS games. I'm just fine with a controller. I want mouse/keyboards to be first-party and bundled with the damned system. Then developers would take advantage of it. The SmartJoy Frag is missing the point
Fourth: If you're one of those people who just can not (or, more likely, will not,) get used to a controller, this could be cool I guess. Might get some of the PC snobs to try out such fantastic games as Riddick and Farcry Instincts.

You might think that this would help you, but it doesn't. I have one and I don't use it anymore. Trying to use a mouse is hell when you need to fight the autoaim and compensate for the strange feel of a game designed around a joystick input.

LMFAO! Say WHAT? I don't want to start a snarling argument here, but what's your thinking behind saying consoles are wearing the FPS crown? The Xbox has Halo, sure, but even Halo isn't enough to make the "FPS crown" change hands...

Flightstick > Mouse and Keyboard/Console Controller for Flight Sims
Steering Wheel + Pedals > Keyboard + Mouse/Console Controller for Driving Sims
Keyboard + Mouse > Console Controller for FPS, Strategy
Console Controller > Keyboard for Arcade/Menu Driven
That is all.
There will never be an all-in-one controller, until all games revert back to side scrollers. I will contently agree that some formats, such as the Grand Theft Auto series works equally well on a controller and K/M.

i'm guessing they'll eventually be putting out one for the 360/ps3. in any case, that is the main reason why i will never get a console, because it doesn't natively support keyboard/mouse, and i don't even give a rat's a*s about FPS. I just could never get used to joysticks/flightsticks/etc.

Have you played the original FarCry on PC? Don't call us snobs if you can't even try out the better version of the game.

I for one, wish the XBOX 360 came with mouse and keyboard. Then I would actually be able to play fps's on a console and enjoy them, especially with CoD2 and PD0 being launch titles. I played CoD2 on the XBOX 360 and found that it just takes way too long to aim, especially after playing it on the PC. But I know I just suck at fps's with a controller anyways.
And yeah, Riddick and Farcry are better on PC. And PC is FPS king.

Theoretically the PS3 will support Bluetooth KB & mouse. I wonder if Sony will allow it's use in games though?

I will continue to call YOU a snob, Kelegacy, if you continue to write off games simply based on the fact that they're on a console. Yes, I have played the original Farcry. It was a very good game. Farcry Instincts is a very DIFFERENT game, entirely different. You can't say it's a better version of the game because it's they're not different versions of the same game, they're completely seperate. But you of course didn't know that, because you didn't even give it a look. Because you're a PC snob.

Actually, I'm not a PC snob. I play games exclusively for the consoles...or at least I have for a very long time. I grew up with consoles and only got into true PC gaming when I got my first decent computer in 1999. I have since returned to the consoles because developers are jumping ship and I follow the thickest crop of quality gaming.
I have not written off any console games. I just find it odd that people (I'm not talking about you) would suddenly tout the consoles as the best places for FPS, and exclaim that the gamepad is the best tool for this genre. However, when a KB/M peripheral is announced for the consoles, these same people start crying foul and whining that it isn't fair. If the gamepad is the best input device for FPS's, why isn't it fair that somebody uses a KB/M against you? Maybe because the gamepad ISN'T truly superior? Despite all our pussyfooting, we all know which input device is better for FPS's. There is no spinning it.
And actually I own Riddick and Far Cry Instincts for Xbox, and own their counterparts for PC. I enjoyed Far Cry on PC more, vastly more, though yes, they are different games with a similar title. Riddick was basically the same game, except it looked better and was actually a director's cut of the Xbox game. But in the end, it's not the visuals that made me like the PC versions better...it was the control. They are still good games on the Xbox, but if you take all that good stuff AND add a better method for control (and to a lesser degree, graphics), you get a better game, if only marginally so.
I don't believe in PC snobism. It's a myth, like the anal G-spot.

Kelegacy, why couldn't you have just continued to be a dick? You went and got all 'reason-y' on me, and now I regret snapping at you. Un. Fair.
As to Riddick, honestly I'd forgotten that there even was a PC version. I can't vouch for the visual fedelity (though it seems logical that it would be better,) but the commentary sounds like something I would totally be into. Too bad my system would chug it out at about 3fps.
I will say, however, that PC snobishness is NOT a myth. You may not fall into that category, but that's not to say that it doesn't exist. I used to be one of them, until my system aged to the point where I HAD to become a multi-platform gamer. Now I figure PC is about on par with consoles.

I've owned one and it's not that great. It does what it says, but it's drawbacks FAR outnumber it's strengths. The speed and precision just isn't there (when using this device with a mouse and keyboard) compared to a PC game. Although it supposedly will allow you to customize keystrokes, I could never get this to work, and the default keysetup isn't very good. I consider myself a fair mouse-keyboard PC FPS player, and I didn't play as well with this setup as I had been with the stock Xbox gamepad. I sold mine on Ebay within a week of buying it.
Is this an ad? This thing has been out forever

I would think the melee combat in Riddick would play vastly better on a gamepad. How'd it work out, anyway?
And anal g-spot a myth? My ass it is.

I've had this product since about a month before Halo 2 was released. Imported it from Hong-Kong.
To answer your question, no I haven't been banned using it yet. However, the X-box controller is still a better choice for Halo 2 because the horizontal and vertical movement speeds in the game are different which makes using a mouse and keyboard really F@#!ing frustrating.
Further, auto-aim which makes it feel like your mouse becomes stuck on an enemy, and you have to overcompensate even further to move the reticule.
AND, messing with the deadzone (the amount of movement required on the joystick to make it move something in the whatever game you are playing) is an evil dread-bitch because it is different for every goddamn game.
...stick with the controller.

I totally second you on this K. Some people are just too defensive, like they make a personal investment in the preception of what's "better" for, of all things, entertainment. Yeesh.

Yea I bought one and quickly stopped using it. Halo 2 was even harder to play with it. But I don't think it's a limitation of the device but rather the fact the game was designed with a controller in mind. Looking around was the biggest problem.

I've got one, the only real downside is that most xbox games have a max turn speed that is significantly lower than what you can do with a mouse, so you just end up doing the mouse motion over and over again to get it where you want it.
On games that are smarter(or dumber, i guess it is all your point of view), it works like it does on a pc.

With Microsoft's vision of having 2 gaming platforms, Vista and Xbox 360, there's little chance that there would be first party keyboard and mouse for Xbox 360. PS3 will support it but for k/m games people would still flock to the PC.

So, as consoles get more and more peripherals that allow them to be like PCs... whats the point of having a console? Oh, its the dumbed down simplicity of console games, of course. Can't go having people needing to use MORE than 8 buttons, that would be beyond them.
