Gothic 4 Coming Late 2009

Eurogamer has word from JoWooD that the next installment of their popular Gothic RPG series, Gothic 4, probably won't be out until late 2009. JoWooD has told Eurogamer we're not likely to see Gothic 4 on shelves until late 2009.

We will, however, be treated to Gothic 3 expansion Forsaken Gods "in a few weeks", according to the spokesperson - retailers interpret this as 5th December.

Forsaken Gods is supposed to bridge the gap between the third and fourth games in the series, but otherwise we know relatively little about it.You can find the full article right here (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=301394).

A Gothic game not developed by Piranha Bytes is not a Gothic game. They might as well lay the franchise to rest and come up with something original.

Oh wait, this is JoWood we are talking about here. Nevermind about originality then.

I'm surprised that people still want to publish through JoWood, they tend to fuck up everything they touch.

Problem is, if you are a german developer, you do not have many options to choose from.

EA and Activision have divisions in Germany, but getting published by them is not always a good idea, plus they are very selective about what they publish.

10tacle is out of business.

That leaves... JoWood.

They need a miracle if they are going to ressurect the series. Extra TnA, free thinking open world, and optional linear storyline.

I would love to say I am excited. I loved 1 and 2. 3 just left me scratching my head and not finishing the game (though I was pretty close). I guess I should finish it now. It won't be the same but I will try it with some hope it could be good.

I drank the cool aid and tried to play Gothic 3 twice. I never got too far out of the starting town because the combat was awful and performance was incredibly poor on a great gaming rig. I think I'll pass on 4.
