View Full Version : Weekend Gamer - What are you playing?

This weekend, I get to play the waiting game, and the "I hope I get better soon." Some nasty virus going around that seems to be hitting everyone in Phoenix with either a bad cough, high fever, or both. I have had it for a week. Unfortunately, I am at the stage where looking at the computer screen makes my head hurt worse. Usually being sick means more game time. Not right now. I am also waiting for a shipment from Amazon.com for Gothic 2 Gold, Spellforce Platinum, and Silent Storm Gold. They were listed at 16.99, instead of 19.99. I never played Silent Storm, but heard good things about it, so I look forward to this, as well as the add on for Gothic 2 gold (to tide me over for Oblivion and Gothic 3), and the expansions to Spellforce. What are you playing this weekend?

City of Villains and maybe a little WoW raiding if I have time - or possibly some Civ 4, though that game runs awfully clunky and slow for my tastes, which annoys me on a system that, for instance, runs BF2 smooth as glass.

Too sick to game, eh? Now that's when you know you're feeling bad.

Civ 4, Gun, Battlefield 2, COD2 and maybe some WoW.

Civ IV, finishing my second run through F.E.A.R. (last time I'll play the game, probably), and I'd definitely be up for some Halo 2 if any of the EvAvers want to meet up some time. PMS girls, if you're reading this, that goes for you, too!

SMT: Nocturne for me, still trying to make my way through this insanely hard, but incredibly rewarding game.

I've actually been getting a lot of mileage out of TimeSplitters FP on the Xbox. It's got pretty good multiplayer. It's quick action and the bots are entertaining.

I finally bought a PS2 and a handful of games. I'm almost finished with God of War - what a fantastic game. After that: Shadows of the Colossus, Ratchet and Clank, Katamari Damacy, Sly Cooper ... there's not enough hours in the day, god dammit.

I can never game when I'm sick. Even just a very mild headcold and I have zero desire to game... I just never enjoy it at all. I usually get the most reading done when I'm sick, though, so it's not a total wash. =)

As for what I'm playing... whatever game time I get this weekend will probably be consumed by CoV, CoD2, Fear, and Mechwarrior Mercenaries (MekPak 3 released the other week, but while I've installed it and played a couple solo games, this weekend is really gonna be the first I can get online with the new stuff).

FEAR and BF2. Hmmm.... that's what I said last weekend, and I didn't end up playing either.

What did I find time for, though.... Lost Levels on Mario AllStars for SNES!!

Going to buy the Movies when I get off work and check it out. Though there seems to be a lot of complaints about it on the official forums, there's enough good stuff I'm seeing from the uploaded movies that is getting me interested.

That and Civ4, so I'm sure my weekend will fly by.

F.E.A.R and Indigo Prophecy. Im surprised by Indigo Prophecy, Im really enjoying the game so far and picked it up from the positive reviews Ive been reading everywhere.

Im enjoying F.E.A.R also but finding the enemies and the enviorment to get repetitive as the game goes on. Still enjoying it though.

probally like some more land of the dead pc, which i may add while really sucks badly, with a usermade mod it makes the game waaaay better. INstead of like 6 zombies on screen, its like 30 zombies.

Guitar Heroes is at the top of my list. It is very addictive and kick ass. I finished off easy last night, and will start on medium tonight. I'll also get in some time with CoV, and maybe try to find some time for a bit of Shining Force Neo. I work on the weekends, though, so I have less time then most people.

Homeworld 2......Nevar finished it. I own over 1000 games and this and Shogun are the only two I never finished. I'm on Mission 10 of 15. WTF was Relic thinking. This thing is really hard. My balls hurt after playing this game. I know Uberjumper hops in and out of here maybe you guys have a secret nerf code or something. Ships u can't kill evar just makes this a pain in the ass. On the otherhand it has some brilliant moments as well. Uhm BSG for Homeworld? Should sell now?

Hopefully I'll be playing Stubbs the Zombie today, if EB actually follows through and finally gets it in today in Canada. Otherwise, probably some Halo 2, Breakdown or Planescape: Torment.

My favorite recurring thread. I do not know why.

Finishing Resident Evil 4 this weekend. First playthrough and I'm only just a little past the 2 El Gigante with the lava pit. This game is massive. I think i'm at like 23 hours already. Strange, seeing how no other RE game could break the 5-7 hour mark, tops.

When I finish this I hope to get back into SMT: Nocturne. I may also pick up an MP3 player this weekend (maybe the Rio Carbon?) so I can listen to GRRM's first three books on audio instead of rereading them all again. Oh, and put some music on it, too.

Looking at Lego Star Wars. Is that co-op?

Also we've got a EA Guild Wars GvG meetup this Saturday night....on Saturday night. S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night!

And will also be doing some...er....um...Mario DDR with the missus.

Busy weekend. Going to see Audioslave tomorrow night, that'll be awesome. On a gaming front, I'll be playing some NHL 2k6 and Brothers at Arms: Earned in Blood on the Xbox as well as some Civ4 on the PC. I may pick up The Movies, but I haven't heard a whole lot about it, though the premise sounds interesting to me. My other thought was picking up The Matrix: Path of Neo for Xbox - a coworker says it is really cool, much better than any other Matrix game yet.

Not entirely sure I am going to pick up either, I may just slide the credit to some Xbox 360 games or something as I have enough other games to play currently.

and yes, resident evil 4 is a long game, but ain't it badass? maybe i should play that gem again. shotgun rounds to the villagers' faces...hell yes. i believe on my second playthrough i get all my old ammo and guns back too. that should make it superfun.

I've got a basement to clean up, but after that's done, I'll be gaming with Guild Wars and NCAA 2005 for starters. I'm thinking about picking up a copy of Metroid Prime Pinball, too. I'm still slugging away at Advance Wars DS. So much time, so little games. (Scratch that, reverse it)

Because there is no fucking excuse for that. Hell, that's the span of watching 2 movies! A masturbation session. I spend more time than that on the can each day. If you start Stubbs at 7 A.M., you'll be done by noon. For 50 bucks, isn't that a bit...wrong?

Because you get to talk to yourself, you egotistical bastard.

I'm in a game overload. Finishing Trauma Center, finishing Advance Wars, finishing HL2, starting FEAR, continuing Nintendogs (borrowed it, not too bad), and starting some System Shock 2 for the first time (coop with my roommate), not to mention throwing in some good ol' WC2 on the LAN. And then Monday Mariokart...argh...not enough time! I haven't even touched Civ4 or The Movies!

WOW, HALO 1 (never finished it the first time), DOOM 3 (Giving it another shot, since the horrible movie made me feel bad for ID), Dungeons & Dragons Online BETA, Ultimate Spiderman.

Maybe I might get the Movies this weekend. I am not sure yet still reading more reviews.

Natural Selection. Man I love this game. I can't believe it hasn't been emulated on other engines, a la CS.

Also, I played through the Brood War Terran campaign for about the 100th time. I always skip the lame limited forces missions, but apart from that, it's still utterly awesome.

I'm also sick as a dog and telling everyone it's bird flu.

Yep, I am reading George R.R. Martin - A Feast for Crows. It took me forever to remember what was happening and who was who, but after 100 pages, I think I have it all straight again... Maybe when the series is done, I will reread everything cover to cover to remember. I am glad I am not the only one who cannot game when sick.

For one thing, I'm trying to avoid having anyone come over and waste my valuable gaming time!

So I'm going to play:

WoW (level 51 and counting)
Call of Cthulhu (Just got to Innsmouth so I'm not very far yet)
The Suffering: Ties That Bind (fun game so far)
Radiata Stories (I think I FINALLY got to the part of the game where it really starts opening up the world and gameplay options and feels more like a real JRPG)

Also going to be finishing up my Amulet of Samarkand book so I can start on the new George R. R. Martin book. Having it sit here, taunting me since Tuesday has been rather annoying!

I am glad I am not the only one who cannot game when sick.

I had this last weekend. My lack of interest in gaming is usually the very first sign that I've got something bad. If I have a little sniffle, gaming is go. If it's something serious, keep the games away. Sadly, this lets my wife figure out if I'm actually sick or if I just need a day off work :P

Have fun with Herman Melville this weekend. He can be a bit...dry.

Oh, and has your class talked about Billy Budd as an object of homosexual desire for the ship captain? I wonder how deep high school delves into the story of Budd.

Two other great Melville short stories worth checking out are "Bartleby The Scribner", and "Benito Cereno". The latter is probably my favorite out of the pair.

In other news, pertaining to weekend gaming, I just beat RE4. Because I think I had a few phone calls or other interruptions where I left my PS2 running, I think I extended my endtime a bit far. 32 hours was my first play through. That's nearly the length of the average RPG!

It's scary when a game like RE4 blows games like Fable and Jade Empire out of the water in terms of content and length. RPGs are the games that are supposed to be this long, not survival horror games. It makes me happy to come across a satisfyingly long game, juicy with meat, in this age of games being cut down to the bone. See: Stubbs, Gun, Fable, Max Payne 2, JE, etc. The list of shorter games continues to grow, but gems like RE4 wows us all with an unconvential, lengthy experience in a genre notorious for its brevity.

It took me just over 20, but I played very conservatively, always making sure I could isolate individual enemies and using kicks and pilledrivers as much as possible. I ended up with a load of ammo for the end game which helped a lot.

I am very conservative with gaming. I didn't use one health spray and by the end of the game half of my inventory was herb mixes and health sprays. I had to sell some of my health supplies to make room for other things. I also had way too much ammo. I was using the knife more than I should have.

But like I said, I think I might have slinked from the room a few times to jump on the internet, evacuate my bowels, eat lunch, phone, or have sex with myself, and left the game on "pause" in the inventory screen.
