Following the failure of Richard "Lord British" Garriott's new MMORPG, Tabula Rasa, 'General British' has posted an open letter to the Tabula Rasa community (http://www.rgtr.com/news/latest_news/an_open_letter_from_general_br.html) announcing his departure from NCSoft to pursue other interests.

Fellow Soldiers of the AFS,

I am happy to finally be able to write the players and community of Tabula Rasa. We've been on quite a journey together. First in creating a game unlike any other on the MMO market, then growing a loyal community and finally launching the game and its players into space with Operation Immortality. It has been quite an unforgettable journey, one that I will treasure for the rest of my life.

I am very grateful to you loyal players for sticking around through what I think we can all honestly say was a rough launch. I thank the development team for pushing hard to get polish, updates and new content out every month since launch...a feat that I think is unusual in MMO development. They have a lot to be proud of.

Many of you probably wonder what my plans are, now that I have achieved the lifelong dream of going to space. Well, that unforgettable experience has sparked some new interests that I would like to devote my time and resources to. As such, I am leaving NCsoft to pursue those interests.

This news is difficult for me to deliver. I am honored to have worked with the team I've had and I'm grateful to the community who makes this game so unique and fun.

Thank you and farewell.

Richard "General British" GarriottNow he can find time at last to go back and patch Ultima IX!

It will be interesting to see if his new "interests" involve something game related or not.

The gaming community owes "Lord British" a debt of gratitude. That being said he has kind of gone Brian Wilson on us. Wouldnt it be nice? if he was relevant?

Remake Ultima IV Oblivion Style, Remake Ultima IV Oblivion Style. If Lord British signed on to make a single player RPG with a proven studio or licensed engine it would print money if it was good. 4.7 Million copies of Fallout 3 already sold? Co Op or instanced scenarios would be icing on the cake.

Yes! Less crappy MMOs! Maybe he read my posts on EvAv about how he will hopefully have an awakening up in space and realize he should go back making awesome single player experiences. Hey, at least I am HALF right if he doesn't! He certainly had SOME kind of awakening!

You mean go first person, get rid of virtue system and replace it with a simplistic good/bad system that never leaves open the question what consequences of option a) would have, let the Britannians constantly talk about mud-crabs, add scaled levelling so that the player never gets any challenge whatsoever, add some stupid mini-games so that skill checks aren't necessary and rely on the community to make the game remotely passable as a RPG (with an added homepage for "How to role-play in Oblivion", go check it out, it's hilarious)?

Wonder if the magazines will criticise Fallout 3 in 2 years time the same as they do Oblivion now.

Wouldn't mind remakes of Ultima 4-6, but rather Drakensang style than the Bethsoft variant. For that matter, I'd also rather play the Fall than Fallout 3.

You go back and remake Ultima Underworld right the fuck now. That is the interest you are going to pursue.

Warren Spector produced Ultima Underworld, and it was developed by Looking Glass (they were called Blue Sky Productions at the time). I don't think Richard Garriot had much involvement with the development or design of Underworld, besides creating the Ultima world in previous games.

Wow... I just made the connection after all these years... Spector... Looking Glass.... get it?! Ok, maybe only if you've studied Latin.
