Looking for a chance to start over? Blizzard sends along word that they have opened six new World of Warcraft game servers.

Blizzard Opens 6 New World of Warcraft Realms

Due to the continued growth of World of Warcraft’s population, Blizzard Entertainment has just opened six brand new realms for the game in North America. These realms give players eager for a fresh start a chance to create new characters and begin adventuring in a new copy of the game world.

In addition, the six new realms provide gamers who are interested in trying World of Warcraft for the first time an opportunity to do so on equal footing with other players.

The new realms that opened today are listed below. They include a combination of normal, player-vs.-player (PvP), and role-playing player-vs.-player (RP-PvP) realms, offering a variety of choices in terms of preferred play style and realm rule set.

Azshara (PvP)
Agamaggan (PvP)
Lightninghoof (RP-PvP)
Malfurion (Normal)

Frostmourne (PvP, Oceania-preferred)
Khaz'goroth (Normal, Oceania-preferred)

In support of World of Warcraft players based in Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore, Blizzard designated one normal and one PvP realm as Oceania-preferred. This means that the time on these two realms is set to GMT +11, providing players who have previously had difficulty attending time-sensitive world events due to time zone differences better opportunities to now experience this content. Because of the need to conduct weekly maintenance simultaneously for all realms in an individual region, the Oceania-preferred realms will have scheduled downtime at the same time as all other North America-based realms.I started a new character on a RPPVP server, but it was kind of a waste... there isn't anyone RPing on that server any more than any other server.

I think the great question of questions is how do you RP in a WOW server? I've tried playing on a role play WoW server and they all talk like they are part of the Knights of the Round Table.

When I went around and talked like my Troll "Ya man, what's up?" they would always complain that I wasn't role playing to which I would respond with "You are jokin me man, ho ho ha ha!"...

Role-playing is nonexistant in WoW. Play COH/COV for RP.

The only way to make a true Role Playing server is to use a chat filter that removes contemporary words. Then you could change the name of the server from Role Play to Faschist Nerd.

The "roleplaying only works if it's in Old English" types tick me off. Warcraft has never had that sort of setting! Sometimes, it's okay to roleplay without being a psychopath about it.

Anyhow, if you want to RP, bust out some D&D, as you won't find it on WoW.

Well, for one thing... if you were RPing then you wouldn't use the 1. General Chat channel at all. Characters in a role playing world can't just shout at each other across an entire zone. You would have to only speak to people who are in the same area as you are.

Now, if Blizzard was smart, I would disable those broadcast channels. They serve no purpose on a PR server.

Not really.

We already used Blackrock as an unoffcial server, that wasn't much of a problem. The major problem is maintainence happens in OUR primetime, not to mention lag issues. Both of which aren't fixed because these are the same American servers with their clocks set a bit different.

Thanks for the endless bullshit Blizz.

Also about the RP servers, they're a strange lot in that you don't have to roleplay, however you can only talk about the game, so you can't talk about Princess Peach and her magical strap-on but you can talk about Jaina and her magical strap-on.

That would at least make RP tolerable. The problem on WoW RP server (or any other RP mmorpg server) is that there are a lot of people who just get off on going to the RP server to try and ruin the RP experience for the people there to RP. If they disable the general chat it would solve a lot of this. There are still channels that can be created for guilds and groups that need to communicate. Of course, it could get boring not watching the "You R Gay" chats scroll by.

Role players are freakin' weirdos, anyway. Just play the game and have fun.

Amazingly, my copy arrives tomorrow, just in time for the new servers. Awesome.

How often does that drop? I've been farming it for weeks...

As a night-owl, the Oceana servers had some appeal to me at first, but then when I remembered how long it took me to get my druid to 58 I decided I'm not leavin' doomhammer for anything.

The RPing servers for me on DAOC used to mean "basically normal gameplay, only with a slightly less percentage of griefers". I'm pretty sure that's not how it works anymore, though, especially on WoW.

Pretty much the entire RP community on WOW is located on the Maelstrom server. There is alot of RP going on there. General chat isn't for Roleplay it is for general discussion of WOW related topics. Roleplay is mainly in /say, /yell and /w. There are huge RP events planned all the time on Maelstrom alongside the general RP that goes on everyday.

There is an addon called FlagRSP that is used by most of the roleplayers to help Identify who is responsive to RP, what kind of RPer they are (Casual, Hardcore, ect.) along with a place to add a discription of your character.

Also, if you think the Rpers are weird, in that they want to be in a state of "Game on, Life off" stay away from the RP servers. They aren't there for you.

I've always been a believer that general chat is for out of character discussion, however I have been argued with on this before. On Scarlet Crusade most of the roleplaying happens among guilds.

The "Thou must speaketh Olde English" crowd annoys the hell out of me too. Have they ever even played any of the other games in the series?

I tend not to RP in online video games, but SC is the server all my friends play on.

On Earthen Ring, there isn't even a pretense of roleplaying anymore.
Every guild advertises that they're RP-optional or, at the most strict, RP-light.

My only expectation from an RP server is a more strict enforcement of the name policy. And I don't think we have that. I seriously don't think it could get any worse.
I've turned off overhead names, and my login ritual is /leave 1.
But they're just goddamned everywhere.

And yeah, no-one who actually roleplays uses Olde English. They might toss in a thee or thine or something, but full Olde English sentences? Those are posers and trolls.

Nocens, dashing Rogue and intrepid adventurer, greets you. May I introduce to you mon amour, the charming Sorceress of Stormwind Amityblue! Oui, 'tis true - I am so unbelievably dashing. And intrepid. One can never forget that. At the same time no less, mon ami. It is hard work, but worth it when you see the smiling faces of the children watching you in hushed awe of your utter dashoscity.
...
DASHOSCITY!

Same here. I was a bit annoyed by it.

I play on a PvE server because I've heard so many horror stories about getting gangked on PvP servers. This seems like a great opportunity to try out a PvP server without having to worry about that too much.

Has anyone else tried this?

When I roleplay as a Troll, I speak in Troll by default: which if you are blessed enough to understand, I write in normal English. When some of the less cultured members of the Horde need to understand what I say, by speaking Orc I revert to the "normal" Troll dialect.

/general is OOC, but should only be used for in-game stuff.

Yes I have and its still a pain in the ass. If you want an example of how life is on a PvP server, just run around a PvE server with your PvP flagged turned on. You will get a mild example of how it is. Hell, hang around Tarren Mill and try to quest their while you flag is on and playing on a PvE server.

Well i have no experience on a PvP server but it seems to me that walking around flagged would be worse than spending time on a PvP server. I know that when i see that yellow name i get excited because you don't see it very often. If they are ?? then i'll at least notify /3 [Local Defense]

lol. they may be overblown but i've heard people tell stories about being killed, having their body camped only to be killed at the graveyard when they rez. Leaving them no alternative but to logout until the campers are killed or go away. Cause we all know how fun it is to fight with resurection sickness.

I started WoW on a PvP server, Azgalor...

Imagine, if you will, walking happy along with a party of three and you come across two humans and an elf (Horde Preception here)... You see that they are marked lvl ?? and decided to stear clear of them, unfortuantely they do not make the same decision. They then decide to kill you and your buddies, which none of you were looking to PvP at the time... Just trying to get XP and quest... Not only do they do the initial attack, they play grab ass near your corpses and sometimes (just sometimes) will be so jackass as to split up between the bodies and the nearest graveyard. All the while you have no choice but to be flaged PvP because you are in a contested zone in which you have to quest because now you are around lvl 20.

This is just an example of life on a PvP server... Don't even let me get started on the Tarren Mill area...

If you want to really enjoy your time in World of Warcraft, play in either a PvE or RP (if you can stand it) server.

If you choose to play on a PvP server, this means that you are not the one that makes the choice when to PvP... Often it is up to the person looking at you through the eyes of the Alliance/Horde and whatever judgement they decide.

Me, after playing about 5 months on a PvP server had quite enough of it. It got so bad (esp now with the honor system) that you couldn't travel much anywhere solo... And if you went with a party, eyes open and 360 with a hunter in "scout" mode.

These are just examples of my experiences... In the end, it is your time and your monthly subscription. :)

The ?? issue is exactly why I wanted to start out on a fresh PvP server. It seems to me that there won't be _that_ many people above me as long as i level at a fairly good pace. Think i'm wrong?

Somedays you gank them, somedays they gank you. Sometimes you harrass one another when you are trying to complete non-instance quests, some guilds specialize in tormenting low-level zones for the pure enjoyment of harrassing the other faction. It's fun!

I wish they had a /demand groveling emote. I had a friend who liked hanging out in Red Ridge after the game in the Burning Steppes/Searing Gorge got too lean: If you run, you die.

I prefer the general statement. "If it's red, it's dead."

The only good thing about PvP is getting high enough to camp campers (all Rapscallions will be camped).
