Gamespot's review of The Movies (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/movies/review.html?sid=6139475) is up.
This is a game of high quality, and it shows in virtually every aspect of its execution. But all told, The Movies comes just shy of its lofty ambitions. Being a movie studio boss is completely absorbing, and there is really no other game, or, really, any piece of software that makes it as easy to build your own little movies. But the connection between these concepts is tenuous at best. Thankfully, its best qualities shine through more than enough to make The Movies a game well worth playing.
When I'm done with all the other games that have come out recently I'll probably pick this up.

Yes, I realise that theres a typo in the title, so lets not freak out on me, but discuss the game..

anyone know if this one requires a card that supposts T&L? Cause my intel laptop doesn't. It still works with some games that require it, but not all. Ok, also, has a demo of this been released?

I'm looking forward to this one. I bought it the other day via gogamers. Waiting for my order to ship but I'm wrapped up in WoW right now as well so I'm in no rush.
I actually have almost no desire to play the actual tycoon portion of this game. I'm all about the sandbox feature though!

Honestly only 1 maybe 2 people at GS is really good.
Yeah, Kasavin is one.

I'd trust gamespot before gamespy, ign, pcgamer, worthplaying (sorry rainofterror), or any of the other sights....but thats just me. But yeah, Kasavin, and Gerstmann seem to be the old jaded guys there, and they are the best.

That's not what I meant.
He gets underneath the skin sometimes when everyone else is satisfied by the hype and first impression alone. Though I don't agree with everything he says, a good portion of it is true at the time of the review.
I just had a Doom 3 flashback.
Oh and I think 8.6 is a decent score for Chaos Theory.

I don't really know if this is news except when something gets a surprising score. For instance, I would have expected Gun to get a 9 or above due to all the gameplay footage (and the hype), so a 7.4 was surprisingly low. That's news.
The Movies was also a triple A title, but I don't think the rating is newsworthy unless it got a score outside the range we might expect. For example, a super high score (9.5 or above) or a super low one (below 8.0). This score is lower than expected, but still within .3 points from the lowest score expected (8.5). It is not low enough for people to really be outraged at the score or anything.
Btw, I also like Gamespot's reviews a lot. They have a reputation of being tough, but fair. Although recently, I think they've become a bit more tough than fair.
Look at these two games. Gun's only listed problem was that it is too short to buy and should instead just be rented. Otherwise, the reviewer states it is a fantastic game. That would put it somewhere between an 8.0 and an 8.9 in my opinion. The Movies has a few flaws with continuity and a bug that stops people from showing up to be hired, which should definitely take off points, but he also states that the game is innovative and highly addictive with superb online features. I would think from that describtion it would be somewhere between an 8.5 and a 9.5
Well. . . whatever. The narrative is still very informative, and I love the video reviews.

I think that a person should be able to spell "probably" before they are allowed to post news. I mean, seriously.

Eh, this stuff pisses me right off too, but lately, I've been learning to deal.
I mean, talk to any kid under 10 years old and ask them to spell the word 'probably' without a copy of Microsoft Word in front of them...

bapenguin, fitabits - I'm curious. What are the standards that you impose when deciding on whether or not to print a submitted news item?
Do you ever edit a feature for grammar, spelling, etc.? Do you ever check the linked sources?
I know that I hit the Preview button about 3 times after making various changes to any story that I submit because I want to avoid these errors (I type 70 WPM, but probably only 35 WPM if you adjust for typing errors.) :)
Not that I would change this is you reveal that you don't edit much. I still want MY stories to have the subject of the post be what people focus on and not my typing errors.

There's nothing funnier than people asking about editing and having a typo in the post.
And yes, I'm being a prick, and just messing with you.
On the actual topic at hand - I'll be watching out for a few patches for The Movies and hopefully picking it up when it drops in price a bit (hopefully it will some day drop in price a bit). The sandbox mode does sound genuinely fun, but I don't think its worth $50 by itself.

Cupelix - That's exactly why I edit several times. :) From my head to the screen, it gets garbled out by my retarded flying fingers. My typing seriously sounds like popcorn popping. I'm sure some of you are similarly fast and terrible typers. ;)

Christ, I just saw the "probibally."
Anyway to answer the question, it's different between all of us. I didn't like it when editors would miss obvious mistakes, so now I'm probably the toughest one.

Can we all just agree that "probibally" might be a cooler word than "probably" anyway? Lets start a revolution. We can probibally get other people using it too.

The typos, or the people who point said typos out?
Cause personally, I understand that "news is news," but come on, 'probably' is not some rare, elitist word.

I've been seeing some decent little shorts on their website. I plan to go scoop this up during my lunch break and break it in tonight.

I was going to pick this up and go all Russ Meyers on it -- but looking at the community site it looks like they have that covered.

Seriously, what is up with all the goddamn grammar nazis? Its a keyboard.... mistyping a word doesn't indicate some lack of mental ability. Are you proposing that weasel has spelled the word "probibally" all his life and are tyring to help him correct that mistake? Or are you being an anal-retentive who feels some compulsion to point out any errors you see? If its b), why not go arrange your sock drawer again...
