Yesterday (http://evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69060) there was word that Korean publisher HanbitSoft now owned the IP and would be supporting Hellgate London, which meant even creating a new expansion for it. Today however, Gamasutra (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=20936) is reporting that Namco Bandai has come out and asserted that they still own publishing rights to the game in the US and UK, basically making the news about expansions moot.

The company also revealed that parent company T3 Entertainment formed a new studio, possibly called Redbana U.S. Corporation, in San Francisco with the express purpose of updating the two games, "carrying on where the last crew left off."

But Namco Bandai community manager Diane “Tiggs” Migliaccio says that HanbitSoft's updates and promised Hellgate expansion won't see a stateside release, posting on Hellgate's official forum, "Let me explain things a bit to see if it clears up any issues for you. Hanbit owns the IP and rights to publish anywhere other [than] the US and EU, and I think the other territory is Japan. Namco owns the rights to publish in the US and EU."

This is as much a Greek tragedy as the game was.

What's hilarious about this is that Flagship in their last dying breath made dammed sure that its users would be flagshipped forever.

"From beyond the grave: Zombie Flagshipped!"

nice, so namco is telling the US/EU hellgate owners to go F off since they plan on standing in their way of an expansion unless this hanbisoft bends over and pays them for the right to do so... classy. i'll be sure to remember that the next time namco puts out a title...

I am seeing this also, basically they don't plan on doing jack with the IP, but heaven forbid someone else profit from it.

Yes, I understand how business works, it just seems like this is one hell (ha its a pun) of a cursed IP.
