As speculated yesterday (http://evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68758), the Beatles are indeed making their way to the music genre video game circuit, but maybe not in the form many hoped. While Harmonix is indeed working on the title, this will not fall under the Rock Band franchise name and will be its own title. It is fully supported by all the surviving members and their families and will probably be out around 2009's holiday season. Shacknews reports (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/55642):
The studio clarified that this will not fall under the a Rock Band franchise, and will instead be its own release. An exact release date and platforms were not provided, but MTV expects the game to launch by holiday of 2009.
The game was creatively conceived with input from Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, and enjoys their full blessing. In addition, Giles Martin, co-producer of The Beatles innovative LOVE project, will provide his expertise and serve as Music Producer for this groundbreaking Beatles project.
Even if its not just an add-on for Rock Band, I'm still one happy person.

This is truly excellent news.
I'm glad its standalone as well, as that means we will get a lot more songs than if they just just released it as DLC.

I had the opposite reaction. I would have much rather seen it as DLC.

If it's not part of the Rock Band franchise, it might as well not exist as far as I'm concerned. Harmonix showed us the way these games can be as a platform.
I'm not taking two steps backwards for any single group - not even the Beatles.

As much as I love the Beatles, I don't know how much of the Rock Band demographic will fork out $40-60 for a Beatles game.

The Beatles are pretty much as timeless as it gets. I can see a lot of people buying it.

Meh. Disappointed it's standalone myself too, but I can understand it from a marketing perspective. A lot of people don't give 2 shits about Rock Band as a brand, but would totally play "a Beatles game".
I hope they go the route that the AC/DC title is supposedly going and let you at least import the tracks. Otherwise? Not gonna bite here. No time at the party to be switching out disks and waiting for games to re-load.

How about some more upbeat music on these games instead of dirty hippy drug induced white trash rock.
More rush, dream theater, less rolling stones and beatles....

I'll let Bill Hicks respond to your post:
"If you don't believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a favor, go home tonight and take all your albums, all your tapes all your CDs and burn 'em, 'cause you know what? The musicians who made all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years were real fuckin' high on drugs."
In addition, I just found this quote about Dream Theatre (Portnoy is their drummer):
We recently talked to Portnoy about the birth of Progressive Nation, his background in prog metal, the genre's history, Dream Theater's recently released compilation Greatest Hit (...and 21 Other Pretty Cool Songs) and how the band almost broke up after their only top 10 radio hit "Pull Me Under." Portnoy was also candid about being a control freak and how alcohol and drug abuse almost ruined his life."
Finally, I'd almost guarantee that members of Rush did drugs during their earlier days, even though they're pretty adamant about not doing them now. Drugs have been a part of music for a loooooooong time.

Yeah ive seen videos on youtube of portnoy (my drummer hero) acting like he was doing coke. You dont exactly got me on this im aware. I guess what i meant was how i hate white trash rock. You know, the ones that have done so much drugs they have sores and cant stand up strait?
I cant stand The Who, The Doors, Jimmy Hendrix. Janis Joplin....that type of whining crap. It gives me gas. Fucking kill yourself if its that dam bad.. Oh, most of em did, indirectly anyway.
