The Philadelphia Phillies are the 2008 World Series (http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/ps/y2008/index.jsp) champions! It's their first championship since 1980, which means my damn Mets have some catching up to do!

They managed to finish off the Tampa Bay Rays by a score of 4-3 in what turned out to be the final three innings after a 50 hour rain-delay. Phillies left-handed pitcher Cole Hamels followed up his LCS MVP award with the coveted World Series MVP.

Congratulations to the Phillies and all their loyal fans!

Also, a tip of the cap is in order for EvAv member DigitalFirefly who predicted (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68094) the Phillies would win in 5.

The Rays choked big time. They couldn't even get the series back to Tampa for a game 6. They handled the ALDS and ALCS just fine, but the World Series stage was too big for them.

Hope they return next year, so my D'backs can take them out next. :D

Awesomeness for the Phillies and the city! It's long overdue for my hometown - wish I was there right now!

And the Rays, from Joe Madden to all of the players - they're a hell of a team. I hope they keep it going - there's much class in that organization all around! Much respect to them. Maybe I'll go catch a few games there next season.
