Let’s just start by saying that this is probably game of the show. We haven’t felt ‘a part of something’ in game for quite some time. You really do feel like there’s a huge war going around you and you’re just chipping in. There’s fighting going on outside your window: aircraft flying overhead, tanks rolling forward, screams from the battlefield muffled by the distant judder of machine fire - it’s war.
That’s not to say that you haven’t got your hands full. Wave after wave of black-clad, red-visor-wearing militia stand between you and the objective constantly flashing on the screen. They’re no cannon-fodder either. You instantly notice how the AI tries to make use of the surroundings: taking cover behind corners, ducking down behind walkways - Killzone 2 makes you work for your kill. But a bit of effort and thought never hurt anyone, especially not in a first-person shooter, and it’s work like this that is one of the many things that has the potential to make this the most engaging game on PS3 to date.

Looks good. A lot of super high quality titles have been making their way to the surface of late. I'm hoping this is one of them also
I've never been terribly interested in this one, mostly because the first one was horrifyingly average. Why all the hoopla about a game whose previous installment scored a grand total of 70% (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/killzone?q=killzone) in reviews?
Of course, reviews mean nothing, but the first Killzone was fuck boring anyway. I don't see why we should be excited until we actually see the game kicking ass.

Getting excited for this game is alot like the people that got excited for the new alone in the dark. I still laugh when I see someone wearing the pre-order tshirt that came with it, as I think about the fact the game sells new for $5-6 at alot of places.

Ahh, KillZone 2--the game that inspired my sig way back during E3'05.
KZ2 became the centerpiece of Sony's smack-talk toward the 360, about how ridiculously more powerful their machine was going to be. And for that reason, even if it turns out to be a fantastic, critically well-received game, I will always crack a cynical smile at its mention.

Well, not wanting to add to all the negativity around here. Cause I think this could be really good in it's genre. And it's a couple of months to go.
But the interviews given by it's lead producer a couple of months ago totally destroyed any sign of even the remotest sign of innovation. This is going to be super slick, no doubt, but anyone selling the game on exploding barrels and such needs to look at the calendar.
Couple that with the generic setting and I don't think I will be buying it. Still, there could be a rabbit somewhere.

I hope its good times, but with all the amazing titles out there and on the way, I really could care less for the title as per all the lies that followed it. I have a few morals left, and they milked this one dry.
If it is a good game then I will eventually get to it, but its not even on my meter anymore.
Nice going Sony, im sure the devs deserve more, but you fucked yourselves many times over with many fans.

People will tell you otherwise, but deep down we're all graphics whores. ;) Don't underestimate the power of that faked E3 2005 video.
This game looks good, but at the same time totally unoriginal; then again, that's a problem most FPS games share. Every time I see Killzone 2 in motion, I keep thinking that it should be called Call of Duty: Future Warfare.
If I had a PS3 I'd buy this, but I wouldn't buy a PS3 to play this. Sorry Sony. :p

Highly unlikely. 360 already has a bunch of top shooters. Gears 2 and L4D alone will carry the FPS community for 6 months. Don't think it will shift consoles... LBP is probably the title that can do that for Sony.
It seems more like a COD4 competitor IMHO...

People eat shit like Killzone right up. I really don't think people are getting tired of shooter type games, or show any sign of it, either.

Will they plunk down 400 bucks though for a shooter when they have a machine that has shooter overkill already. I doubt it.
I bought my PS3 for games like LBP, Disgaea 3 and MGS.

Killzone 2's production quality can not be doubted whatsoever if the trailers are any indication. It has taken a lot of ques from gears of war and I don't mean just a few as well as halo.
If anything can be said about sony is that they are very much like Fox is to movies. They can make things look great, flashy and are willing to throw money at it as long as it remains 'glamourous', 'edgy' and 'marketable'. Let us hope they change their colours with this game like EA has done with deadspace.
wow! AI taking cover and trying to kill you? Never seen that before right?
I think we're past the stage of being impressed by AI taking cover and not blindy running into your bullets.
No interest in this game. 360 has better shooters coming out and i feel like this has absolutely nothing new to offer.

I bought my PS3 for games like LBP, Disgaea 3 and MGS.
...which is why I said Killzone 2 would appeal more to your average gamer. Don't get me wrong, but I highly doubt that your average consumer is someone who frequents a site like Evil Avatar and plays anime strategy games like Disgaea. Hell, of the games you listed I can only see MGS4 really having that potential to drive console sales.
Basically, I'm saying that I believe a game like Killzone 2 will appeal to the masses far more than a game like LBP. With proper marketing, the game could be huge.
But hey - I could be very wrong. Time will tell, I guess.
--
I also think it's a little closed minded and not very fair to write off a game based on its previous iteration. Resident Evil, Zone of The Enders, etc. were all sub-par to average games in their first form who had phenomenal sequels. Besides - the latest movies alone show that the game is most likely going to be pretty fucking rad.

Oh, I agree more or less. Although LBP is mainstream as fuck, even if average Joe doesn't touch the creation aspect of it, he will still buy it on pure marketing force alone. Disgaea is a niche I admit. But don't forget, PS2 got sot big on those.
I just don't see many non game enthusiasts having PS3s yet (that's the Wii crowd I think), so I think these games will have more impact on the gaming community than a Killzone 2.

MGS4 is a game that had a lot of money thrown at it with high production values through the roof. I bow to the series because I've loved 1 and 2 but 3 was pushing it and 4 was really the last i could take of its formula. You WATCH more than you play it.
Your name makes you an automatic invalid for this kind of conversation. You might as well tatoo sdf on your ass considering you post under a name like it. You set yourself up to be sold. that's okay. that's your role.
Uncharted is an exception. Resistance was a rental and nowhere near as good as the likes of games like Bioshock, Deadspace but these are pc ports so they don't even count because my pc is far superiour to the ps3 and not only that allows me more options that i would more than likely would have to pay for if it were for the console.
Enjoy your steak and don't forget to take your blue pill with a glass of water.

4 took the formula from all the previous installments and actually made it easier to play. The view, the controls, etc. were all easier to use/implement and more fluid.

MGS was indeed more of the same, but it did also play a lot better since they dumped the top down crap (I quit 3 because of it). Yes, you watch a lot, and yes I liked it. Sometimes I just want to be entertained and while it's just as much movie as it is game I can get lost in the exposition. It doesn't make it a bad game, just not something everyone enjoys.
Resistance 1 I didn't care for at all, for the same reason, but comparing them to those 2 superior games isn't fair, they're to different. Compare it to CoD or Halo if you must, but Dead space is 3rd person and Bioshock was more like Metroid than a shooter to me. Which is why I liked it more, I just don't care for straight up shooting.

Wow that was hard considering they've been using the same formula for 3 generations of the game I would HOPE they would make it as fluid as possible at this point. I'll try to keep this short. I tend to post more than I should because it's like dumping the information of my perspective and sharing it and you share yours to its entirety. I understand what you mean. I paid 60$(well, more because I got the collectors edition) because I am a loyal fan of MGS and wanted to see where they have gone. I completely enjoyed the game for what it was but more often than not I felt like hitting the start button and selecting skip. I couldn't because I didn't want to miss anythign that might be important later. MGS has always been famous for..btw i'm your father, btw I'm your brother, btw I'm your brother who has taken over someones body via arm transplant, btw you never really destroyed me/him/her(you get the picture). That and zooming in on naomi's cleavage was fun for a little while(that actress is stunning) as well as the emo girlicious crew.
There's things like 'that's big boss CQC' but snakes cqc consists of 'O' for the entire series. The neck breaks/throws/throat cuts are sort of the same but...you would think with the crazy agility that's displayed by him that he would be capable of more. I mean if anything it's like snake can't really do much compared to grey fox, raiden, the entire enemy cast it's like...how does a chain cigarette smoker like snake who barely displays half the fighting ability of his enemies or some of his friends (who take out the geckos like nothing) even beat these people. Not only that he has to listen to a 10 minute story over a codec that is just a logo display of the girls he beats up.
I've said a lot of this before and i just can't change my stance on it. The Mk. II was a really great addition as well as the gun collecting but the soap opera and your head exploding is connected to a toilet in australia that dumped a piece of poop that has the genetic make up of all soldiers around the world that some are trying to protect and others are trying to use to break free of the evil control of an artificial intelligence...then there's scenes that make no sense like snake taking the gun from akiba/johnny but afterwards there's this whole you can't use guns that are locked lecture(not yours) thing so the whole scene just is just for show.
Resistance 1 I didn't care for at all, for the same reason, but comparing them to those 2 superior games isn't fair, they're to different. Resistance was okay, not as good as call of duty but heads above better than haze, killzone and if it had co-op it would have been ahead of halo for me(co-op is the only reason i played halo twice). I don't hate on resistance too much considering I don't play any fps's multiplayer at all nowadays. I just bought socom however so between lbp/fallout 3/command and conquer ra3/wotlk(i went back...gnome death knight!)/far cry 2(haven't touched it yet) and if i missed anything but honestly... right now is a great time for gaming.
Killzone 2 is looking great. Sorry for the total derail. I'm not committed to it like I was to something like The Dark Knight or anything but let's hope they can deliver on the game play.
Ladies ladies!
MGS will be out on the 360 before we know it. No need to take any drastic measures like going out and puying a ps3. I'd give it 3-6 months before they make the annoucement...

The camera angles, the actual gameplay/gunplay, sense of direction, etc. all seems much more perfected than it's previous installments, ESPECIALLY pre-MGS3.
No, I love Resistance, but I also think it's a funny way to get people to make asses of themselves. The words "troll" and "fanboy" are misused so tragically it makes me laugh my ass off when someone will make a big deal of it like you did and like many others have done. I always thought Gears had a pretty awful story. But, it's also solid proof that graphics and gameplay can overcome story weaknesses. The co-op definitely helps, also.
I agree though, that Call of Duty 4 spoiled us. Great story mode, awesome multiplayer, incredibly replay value. The ONLY thing CoD4 was missing was co-op, and it didn't need it.

This is what goes for intelligent conversation?
Hey everything you said is the stupidest things I've ever heard. I think it's funny that your opinions don't match mine. Let's pull up one other game(that is great btw) and a generic sci-fi shooter because there's not a lot of those out there but not list the other gaming libraries available.
And let's point something else out. You took something serious that was obvious sarcasm. You took it personally and you were the one couldn't take your beloved mgs4 being made fun of. You don't get to come off as the 'cool calm collected individual' at this point in the conversation after being such a pompous dink with a post like that.
If anything this is an indication that you like to set traps for individuals in conversation, oh look they fell for the trap I get to say this now!(Are people even people to you on the internet or do you just enjoy setting them up to insult them?) You're the xXLegolaszXx person who hopes someone misconstrues you as a lotr's fan. And... that really makes me kind of pity you that you find amusement in such a tiny way...
Here's some words of advice, Get a life. You can't say get out of the house when you conduct yourself like that. lol
3+? Yeah, because the controls were always this accurate and the camera was always this stable, lol. Have you ever even PLAYED MGS1 or MGS2?
Yeah, me simply posting something perfectly logical took the intelligence out of the conversation? You're clearly opinionated.
Me saying I think MGS4 and Resistance are great games are the stupidest things you've ever heard? Then clearly you live in a secluded world where you don't have to worry about real issues. Are you one of those people with no social skills that ONLY plays video games?
TYPING a negative line about a game over the internet where there's no voice tone is CLEARLY sarcasm to you? Are you retarded???
Yeah, sure. Why not? Don't you ever get a kick out of people that make total asses of themselves over fanboyism? It helps weed out people that clearly have no logic. You are one of those people. Congratulations.
Ah, okay... so you talk about what "goes for intelligent conversation" and then throw a one lined-insult at me after complaining that I did the same? Thanks you for contradicting yourself and proving my point EVEN further.
Wow. You really need a clue. I can't take you for anything else than a 14 year-old with ADHD with such ignorant and contradictory statement. I mean, the argument from you was null and void the second you posted the hilarious bit about "obvious sarcasm" over an internet message board. Fucking HILARIOUS.

Ya sound as biased as the object of your own scorn (the SDF), you should realize. Resistance is an 'exception'?? That implies that the average PS3 game will obviously be a flop, when it's generally understood by most intelligent gamers that the main problem with the PS3 is high-priced hardware and non-optional Blu-Ray support. Now if you were talking about a lack of quality Wii software you may have sounded like less of a dolt, but alas...
Question: did you like Final Fantasy XII? That game, much like the ones before it, fell into the "WATCH more than you play" category-- I also suspect XIII will do the same. But I doubt you or others like you will have much negative to say about it since it's now a Xbox 360 franchise. I never got it why people pretending to be "more objective than the SDF lolwut" resort to blatantly revealing their bias by shitting over niche games.
OBVIOUSLY MGS4 wasn't made for all gamers. Neither was FFXII-- that doesn't mean they don't offer the best of their genre. Nor does it mean they're flawless-- but then nobody ever claimed they were; you and your judgmental kin make it seem as if PS3 games need to be 100% perfect, and marketable to any/all categories of gamer, or else it's an automatic realization of the console's failure which was predicted so many months before the 2006 launch. Please grow up.
