1UP is reporting (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3170952) (with a little help from Bloomberg) that EA may auction the Madden cover spot to the highest bidder. "Giving back" is just what they'll be doing if discussions at Electronic Arts end in Moore's favor. The former corporate vice-president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business Division wants to auction next year's Madden NFL cover spot to the highest bidder, with all proceeds going to the United Way. The opportunity may seem enticing to any athlete with a multi-million dollar salary who just-so-happens to be a fan of the series, and with an urge to donate some money, but is there a risk?Considering what has happened to some of the Madden cover players in the past do you think this is a good idea?

I hope, with every fiber of my being, that it's just some guy and not an athlete. I want it to look entirely awkward, maybe a huge fatty, or better yet, not even human. I want Madden: Manitee Edition.

GAAAAHHHH!! Would that not be freaking awesome...having some hedge fund broker or tax attorney giving the heisman pose.

If I were an athlete, I would buy the cover space for a competing athlete.

I don't follow the NFL at all, neither do I know who usually makes the cover of the Madden games, so this talk of a curse is totally new to me.
Will someone care to enlighten me about this curse of the cover?

Will someone care to enlighten me about this curse of the cover?There was a streak of players who were on the cover that had season ending injuries. Michael Vick of "Bad Newz" kennel fame was on the cover before his dog fighting arrest too.
