Inching ever closer to the XBox 360 release, we have our first XBox 360 title released this week. Kameo: Elements of Power hits store shelves, and while you won't be able to play it for 2 weeks, you can stare at the shiny box in awe. GUN hits multiple platforms before its XBox 360 release, and should be a solid western themed title. Guitar Hero for the PS2 hits stores as well, and looks to be a fun addition to the Karoke/DDR style of games. The PSP gets a SOCOM game this week, and the Gamecube gets Mario Party 7 just in time for the Holidays with friends.

Oh, and lets not forget the 50 Cent movie debut.

Hold on here, how did Ducktales slide under the radar??? Great cartoon AND great Nes game from the Disney/Capcom era.

Imagine if that partnership had lasted, we might have gotten Spider-man vs. Mega Man vs. Darkwing Duck.

I think that combination just unlocked my inner child...

I wonder if the shrink wrap will smell differently for Xbox 360 games?

I will get Kameo probably when I get my 360... the game is getting some serious positive vibes.

Why is a 360 game hitting shelves before the console does? That seems idiotic. I don't seem to remember that happening with any other console release. Maybe I just didn't pay close enough attention back then.

I remember having my copies of Madden, Tekken, and UT for the PS2 prior to the system coming out, and even a peripheral, perhaps the memory card or 4 player adaptor. What's so idiotic about it? If you got it, put it out on the shelf.

Guitar Heroes looks awesome, but I will need to find a copy of it with dual guitar controllers in order to have tonnes of fun with my buddies.

After reading massive ammounts of praise by both gamers and press about Guitar Heroes, I ordered myself a copy of it. I went with the cheap shipping, so I won't have it for a week. Still, I'm looking forward to it.

I'm also quite interested in The Movies and really want to see how it turns out.

The PSP did it, the GB Advanced...possibly others aswell. I like it really, you have time between the game purchase and the console purchase for more money to appear.

So that people will have at least something to play on launch day? I love the idea of releasing games before consoles - it seems less of an outlay than shelling out for everything in one day.

The PSP did it, the GB Advanced...possibly others aswell. I like it really, you have time between the game purchase and the console purchase for more money to appear. As if the money wouldn't be there if you simply saved the right amount of money to buy what you want on launch day? You won't magically have more money because you bought things earlier.

It just seems odd to me that they're selling you something you can't use yet.

...it seems less of an outlay than shelling out for everything in one day. That's probably the real reason for it right there - it makes you feel like you're spending less because you're not spending it all at one time. I can't decide if its devious or marketing genious (perhaps those are really one and the same).

IGN has a review of it, I think. It's supposed to be a pretty good game, too. I've never playe the first 2, though. I need to.

EternalGamer

As mentioned before, both the PS2 and the GBA released games before the system came out. I think it's really a matter of practicality for the stores. MS doesn't bother putting street dates on the games since you can't really use them until the system comes out anyway. But if the games are put on sale early, people will buy them. The stores that don't put it up for sale, will miss out on the opportunity.

It does create the illusion that one is spending "less money" and also encourages impulse purchases in anticipation for the system release. So it's a win/win for everbody... except for the guy who thinks he is saving money by buying the games early that is. ;)

Ducktales is only great in the proper context. You have to be watching it on a weekday afternoon with toy commercials built in. Otherwise it is just not the same.

Are those zombies I see in the screen shots for Gun? What is unique about this game that it is getting so much exposure? The presence of prostitutes in a Western-themed environment isn't exactly original.

I still want to know if you can combine genres in The Movies. For example, is a sci-fi/horror movie possible? I'd like to give a demo a try before I break down and buy it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Darkwing Duck completely separate from Ducktales? I know that he did some crossover episodes but I didn't think that he was actually IN the Ducktales show.

I was simply alluding to a "Marvel vs. Capcom vs. Disney" type of game. That's all...

And yes, while Darkwing never appeared on Ducktales, he did have Launchpad for a sidekick and Gizmoduck was part of his homage to the "Justice League."

I believe the full name was "Launchpad McQuack". He worked as a test pilot for Scrooge McDuck, and was provided airplane equipment by the one and only Gyro Gearloose.

Although I think I liked "Talespin" better back in the day. (doot doot doot da-doot doot da-doot...Talespin!)

I enjoyed Duck Tales, but I never missed an episode of Animaniacs. The humor wasn't aimed at the lowest common denominator and a large portion of it was aimed at the parents of children watching.

That said, what's the deal with the game? Was it big when it was on whichever system it came from? I really don't remember it.

Basically it's the adventures of Scrooge McDuck, Donald, and Don's nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louey (Louis? Lewey?). As we all know, ducks are crazy (they are exhibitionists--they don't wear pants) so many crazy capers are to be had.

I'll never forget that theme song. I must have been in junior high or something, watching it after school. Are there even any cartoons on after school these days? Anything worth watching? Man, here I thought I was the only person around who thought that those late 80's -early 90's Disney cartoons were awesome. Good to see there are so many people around who share my eclectic tastes.

Sadly, cartoons seem to have gone the way of the dinosaur these days. The ones that are made are either complete crap or are just badly dubbed DBZ-style anime. It's funny that most of the cartoons being made and that do well these days are aimed at the 18-34 market as opposed to kids.

Heck, Saturday mornings are pretty much devoid of cartoons these days. I think Fox has their crappy-anime block and some of the Teletoon/Cartoon network channels have cartoons (duh) but aside from that, weekend TV is a bunch of crappy live-action shows that make Saved By The Bell look like high art.

Sigh.

Does anyone remember Freakazoid? I never got to see many episodes of it but the few I did see were fantastic. It made Animaniacs look downright subdued by comparison.

Oh, and was it just me or did anyone else have a crush on that mouse from Rescue Rangers. She was hot... for a mouse... when you're a 13 year old boy...

I've said too much...

haha! freakazoid.. never got into it though..

a few notables going on today are:
teen titans
justice league
the batman
the fairly odd parents (quite alot of adult jokes)
duck dodgers (great if you can find it, hilarious!)
harvey birdman (definitely not kids stuff, but quite potentially the funniest shit i have ever seen)

all the clone wars guy's stuff (genndy tartovsky?):
powerpuff
dexter
samurai jack

recent ones Ive replayed but not watched:
viewtiful joe
loonatics

unfortunately I have to BT most of these, since they all air rarely.

i watch too many cartoons for a man my age (ripe 'ol 27), but hell i find them more engaging for adults than most live action shows.

I will be curious to hear what all the Ducktales fanatics think when they actually buy the DVDs and revisit those cartoons. The Disney stuff did tend to be higher quality than most syndicated cartoon series, though. Sadly, they came along near the end of my cartoon days. The "prime" of my youth was Transformers and He-man, and those cartoons definately do NOT hold up. WHen I catch them on TV and rewatch them now I find myself saying "I used to like this? What was I thinking?" The answer is that i was 10, I wasn't thinking much of anything. 10 year olds will watch anything on TV. Anyone remember Saved by the Bell? Exactly.

I have a twelve year old sister, so I have some insight into what the kids watch these days. She watches mostly live action shows, especially on the Disney channel. Stuff like That's So Raven, Hilary Duff's show, etc etc. Pretty much all crap, but I'm sure the stuff that I loved back in the day was too.

She does watch a few cartoons - I've seen her watching Hey Arnold, Fairly Oddparents, and Spongebob, all on Nick. I don't really know if Disney has many animated shows these days. The whole company seems to have moved away from hand animation.

great movie.. even higher production values than the cartoon (from what i remember, the first to have shadowing on the characters like their beak and such)

I think the only animated disney show ive seen that is recent is the one with the hawaiian girl and that weird purple monster (dont feel like looking up the name)
the animation is quite good, probably better than all those straight to video sequels of aladdin, beatuy and the beast, and such. (even better than some that hit the movie circuit, like jungle book 2)
