As many of you know gaming legend Richard "Lord British" Garriott recently returned from a voyage in space. 1UP's Kris Pigna dug up some details on what he actually did up there. The AP story notes that while on the space station, Garriott "conducted experiments," although what they entailed weren't detailed. But there's one thing we do know he did: ensure humanity's immortality. As part of what Garriott called "Operation Immortality," he delivered and stored digital human DNA data on the International Space Station, including data from none other than Stephen Colbert. The idea, we suppose, is that if humanity ever goes extinct, the data could be used by far more advanced alien civilizations to recreate our species. You can find the full story right here (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3170920).

The man couldn't preserve the Ultima VII source code and someone would trust him to ensure humanity's survival?
Seriously?
Hurrah for hyperbole.
If the human race were wiped out, somehow I doubt a digital blueprint to human DNA stored on a small orbiting habitat - one that requires regular boosts, consuming fuel, to stay in orbit - will be of much assistance to anyone.

Haha, even if they could recreate the human race, why the hell would they want to? Maybe as a cheap source of labor?

;1674412']I for one welcome our new Overlord masters :DThere just are not enough good Overlord positions available these days. It's a damn shame. I'm very handy with minions. ;)

I'm sure the guy astronauts leave "DNA samples" all over the station, all the time. Not a whole lot else to do up there when you're bored. Frankly, it must smell rather funky in the thing by now.

Great, so humanity gets wiped out and our digitial DNA ambassodors to represent the human race when the evil overlords come by is Stephen Colbert and Lord British. One guy to make games and one guy geeky enough and funny enough to laugh at those shit games and know what he's taking about.
Proof that a sense of humor is just as powerful a universial force as the Magnetic and Gravitational forces.
