Its Friday again, and you know what that means... another episode of 'What You Want to Know' from our friends at the Gamerscore Blog (http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2008/10/24/562028.aspx). This time, they're discussing Netflix and the Video Store.

We’ve all been there. You’ve just popped some popcorn, put on your flannel pants with the puppies on them (don't fake like you don't have them), wrapped yourself in a comfy blanket, and parked yourself on the couch. Remote in hand, and Dolby 7.1 ready to blast, you reach for the familiar red Netflix envelope sitting on the coffee table – only to discover that it’s already open, and you’ve already watched the DVD! Your girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband/roommate/dog forgot to put it in the mail. Frustration sets in.

Relax - it’s time to get comfy again and turn on your Xbox 360. On Nov. 19, all movies from your Netflix instant watch queue will be instantly accessible and playable on your Xbox 360. All Xbox LIVE Gold members with a Netflix subscription will be able to instantly watch more than 12,000 movies from the Netflix library at no extra charge.

On top of that, you no longer need to put on make-up, "acceptable" clothing and shoes to drive to the rental store. Xbox LIVE Video Marketplace offers more than 20,000 pieces of HD and standard definition content, and will have a new sleek look and feel that makes you feel like you’re browsing shelves right in your own living room. You’ll be able to see hi-res box art for all the movies and TV shows you love, plus read all the information that would usually be on the back of the DVD box.

In total, when the New Xbox Experience launches, you will have a massive library of more than 30,000 HD and standard movies and TV episodes at your fingertips. This gives me another reason to spend a quiet night in with Clive Owen, Cillian Murphy, Christian Bale, oh the list goes on...

Hit the link for some screens.

sounds like they expect you to pay for Netflix AND for a gold account, i guess i'll pass.

Yeah. That is why I got the Netflix in the first place, and I have cut up my Blockbuster and Hollywood Video cards as a result.

(I figure I'll keep my local video store card; the X he has is Grade A)

Did you expect to get this for free, or just pay for Netflix? I'm assuming that this stuff is going to be going through Microsoft's Live service... or they're just adding more value to having gold accounts.

When this was first announced ALOT of people thought it meant ALL gold members would get Netflix for free, as a bonus for having Gold. I know more than a few people who are still confused/disappointed by the reality.

I wasn't confused at all, I didn't expect Microsoft to give out free Netflix memberships to Gold subscribers.

I have a Netflix account, and I'm extremely excited to have access to 12,000+ movies. As long as they continue to work on bringing out new titles, I might drop my total number of videos out at a time.

I thought there was a news report this week somewhere saying that netflix functionality (and xbox live prime time) would be delayed till spring?

Convienience is a commodity. The more you pay, the less you move.

So If I understand this correctly you have to be a Gold Xbox Live member and pay supbscription to Netflix? Ok for everyone that already does this is a big benefit but for us who don't why bother when we have PC? Nah I was one of the confused people who thought you would be able to get this for free wiht your Xbox Live Gold membership. Not interested in another subscription thing thank you.

Why in the world would you get Netflix's serviceit for free just because you have a gold account? Netflix charges for this so why give it away?

Also, keep in mind that a lot of people may actually want to watch some of the netflix movies with other people. Sitting in front of a 20" monitor with my son and wife doesn't really sound like a lot of fun.

I actually think this is pretty cool. I already have an XBL Gold account (for now), and have been thinking about opening a Netflix account for some time, this is just one more incentive to do so.

No, the "movie party" aspect of it would be delayed.

Shit from a bull. It was very clear from the start that you needed a Netflix account. ALOT of people have severe reading comprehension issues it seems.

i would have expect this to be bypassing the Gold membership crap.

that's like having to pay blockbuster to walk into their doors before you're allowed to rent a movie.

just seems like an idiotic move on both of their parts (netflix and MS), i'm guessing MS pushed for it that way in return for lower fees that Netflix has to pay them. As it means (for netflix) that automatically their potential sales base (from this endeavor) is chopped in half (last i heard that was the approximate ratio of gold/silver).

well, ok, not like paying blockbuster, since i think they own their own buildings....

but perhaps like paying a shopping mall an entrance fee before you can go shop at the stores.

You can watch Netflix on your PS3 with the new Flash Browser functionality. Just no HD sound.

Most people have netflix accounts, and most cool people have xbox gold accounts. So this is just a great new functionality added in for free where I can sit on my couch and watch a crapton of movies.

I only wish I could download hi-def ones. Maybe in the future.

"From what I hear its going to be $19.99 a month for the netflix service"

You could be a little more uninformed, I'm sure. Try harder next time!

A simple hop over to Netflix.com will show you the pricing structure.

Here, I'll even make it easy for you. The answer is $8.99 a month. Done.

This is one of my favorite parts about the new dash. I rarely use the instant videos on my netflix subscription since it isn't as comfy to watch movies on my computer at the desk.

You can watch movies from your couch with a bigger screen. You don't have to download a prioprietary Netflix player. You can use a wireless controller to control the movie instead of a mouse. It's something your non technical family can easily do.

There's a number of other reasons (including kids easily playing movies without having to swap DVDs or work a PC) but honestly it sounds like you're not the target consumer for this. I happen to be one of the target consumers (I already have both Netflix and Xbox Live) and I'm pretty excited about this.

I don't know what to say. I've read this three times and still it makes me giddy with laughter. I'm tempted to pick it apart with a dash of sense and/or logic, but I think it's beautiful just the way it is.

Ummm...duh.

2 totally different companies...it would be too messy to try and work out a different plan especially when it rolls out.

How about you be thankful that this is possible rather than bitching about it? I love people who cry and whine when they don't get the most amazing deal. This is real life...what did you expect?

Less QQ, more pew pew folks.

I am extremely excited about this. I will be signing up for Netflix as a result. I'm not a big fan of "wait for it in the mail" or "go to the local video store." However, I'm all over the "download it and watch" method of renting movies. I'm looking forward to it a lot. It's a terrific feature that differentiates XBL from PSN.

Give me a break, they are not charging extra for anything. If you have a gold account and netflix then you can stream to your Xbox, it is added functionality and that's it.

Wow, you are just a ridiculous. You're not funny and besides your last post (which was condescending) you never offer anything to the topic. I bet you are a real treat at dinner parties.

I don't like to go off topic but quit coming into threads and downtalking, you look like a jackass.
