By way of GoNintendo (http://gonintendo.com/?p=60373), Atlus has announced Legacy of Ys: Books I & II for Nintendo DS. The game has been given a February 10, 2009 release date for North America. Among some of the enhancements, the game will be fully redone in 3-d, and include a remixed soundtrack.

GoNintendo also provides a link to the trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkDjIr0pqBw) for the game posted on YouTube, along with Atlus' press release:

One of the most heralded action RPG franchises of all time is coming to Nintendo DS™. Legacy of Ys: Books I & II delivers the first two epic tomes of the famed saga on one cartridge, presented with a series of never-before-seen enhancements.

Presented in 3D for the first time, Legacy of Ys offers remastered graphics, a remixed music score, optional touch screen control, and local wireless multiplayer for up to four people.

For younger gamers, this is the kind of action RPG classic your older friends are always deriding you for having no memory of, and Legacy of Ys offers a perfect introduction to the long-beloved saga. Hardcore fans of the franchise will find plenty of new features to immediately post about in message boards, as Legacy of Ys offers the best version yet of a true legend of gaming.

Don’t miss your chance to condescend to the next generation of gamers. On February 10, 2009, experience these two celebrated classics - together on a single cartridge - as never before!

The remixed soundtrack has me a bit worried. The original soundtrack is just so classic that it alone might warrant a purchase from me for some portable love. If the soundtrack is changed up too much, I would lose interest.

How about you get some decent taste in games and never mention Atlus again

Awwwwyeeeaaaaah. I loved the third installment of Ys, and enjoyed Ark of Napishtim as well. I can't wait for this shit.

You're entitled to your own opinion and all, but why must you be a bag overflowing with douche?

I've been wanting to get into the Ys games for a while. I was told mainly to check out Ark of Napishtim. I think this would be a great start.

Have you heard the remixed soundtracks that Falcom JDK puts out themselves? They're absolutely awesome.

If you can get around to trying the original 2 Ys games, do so. Ys 3 was good, but was a 2d-sidescroller, while Napishtim was 3d.

I feel that a person could garner a better appreciation for the franchise by experiencing them in their original form, than jumping in at the 3d era.

Probably a must buy for me. I picked up Luminous Arc after reading Tycho lauding Atlus on Penny Arcade's site. It's a great game. Kinda derivative of the FF Tactics series, but I liked their combat system a lot. There were some excellent and balanced ideas in the mechanics, and the story was good.

I want to pick up Etrian Odyssey too, that sounds fun.

Think a must buy for me as well. The re-mixed soundtrack is a bit worrying to me as well. Hopefully it is well done. I still have my copy on the TurboCD :D

Think it will be great to play on the DS.

YES.

I remember when it was announced in Japan and I assumed it would never make it over here. I can't really explain it, but I'm obsessed with this series.

Here's why this is really cool: Ys and Ys 2 were on separate cards in Japan. We're getting a two-for-one. Also, this opens the door for Ys 4 and Ys 5, which we never got.
