It used to be the holiday season was after Thanksgiving, but now it seems to be after Halloween. Are you starting your "wish" list? How is CoV? With the weekend here, the question remains the same; what are you playing this weekend?

Shadows of the Colossus.
Never having Played ICO, I feel as if I have cheated myself out of greatness. SotC is just so amazing that I can't wait to get off work and work my way to the 13th colossus.

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness and Ninja Gaiden Black
Castlevania is a lot better than I expected it to be, so I'm having fun with that. I needed a break from NGB anyway, I'm at the boss fight with TWO fucking giant electricity worms. I'm getting better though, I managed to be Alma this time through without using any potions or ninpo.

Getting through Gunstar Super Heroes. I haven't made up my mind whether it's a really good, or really bad thing that it's almost exactly the same game but wth a new weapons system and only one player.
Still, I'm not going to knock it too bad. It took them 10 years get around to make this damn game and I'm always thankful for some Treasure goodness.

I'm actually in the middle of a P&P session right now... Getting mauled by a raging Wolverine. Fuck my dice rolls tonight <.<
This weekend I'll probably be playing some more Disgaea, and some MUCKs. Might mess around with Kingdom Hearts some more. As well, I'll be watching some episodes of Firefly, and Elfen Lied.

Right now I'm finishing Dragon Warrior 7 in anticipation for 8. I"m also playing some multi-player Mario Kart Double Dash to get my skillz up for the 360 launch where me and my co-workers will all be playing Mario Kart DS while waiting for midnight.

My son's playing Garry's Mod for HL2, which he loves. We've been playing Spell Force a bit. I'll probably do the usual NWN prototyping for my game (http://adamandjamie.com/da). I'm thinking it might be fun to pick up something new and interesting, though. Sadly there's no games that really excite me.

Finished FEAR as well. Great game. I'm still deciding which MMORPG to get: WoW, FFXI, CoV, etc... Getting one of these games requires a lot of time which I lack at the moment. My gut says WoW, but most of my friends are playing FFXI. Decisions decisions.
Other than that in anticipation for Naruto 4 I'll be playing Naruto 3.

Just picked up Phantom Dust. I read a lot of good things about it, and normally I don't go for this type of thing, but I've found it oddly addicting, it's got that "Just one more mission before bed" quality I haven't experienced in a while.
Also, I will be playing shill for the evil empire tomorrow, when I start my part time, extra holiday cash job at *shudder* EB. I hope it doesn't suck as much as I've heard.

Guitar Hero, Advance Wars DS, Shadow of the Colossus.
I already beat SotC but I play a couple time attack runs whenever the mood strikes me, I need to make a point of playing hard mode but we're in that season where it's hard to replay anything before the Next Big Thing comes out.
Guitar Hero is the shiznit, I'm almost done with Medium career mode but I can't wrap my fingers around No One Knows. I've caught myself rocking out with my fake guitar on more than one occasion.
Advance Wars DS is just the perfect distraction, and it has the tendency to keep on the crapper for longer than medical safe.
I've been thinking about getting back into WoW, I'm basically waiting to see what happens with my old guild's auxiliary raid group to see if I want to get back into the grind. Also (constantly) playing Magic the Gathering and VS, but I don't think those count on this site.

If you can get into your friends' guild, play FFXI. Playing an MMO with people you know makes the experience (especially early levels) soooo much more interesting. Also you get to kickstart into a (I'm assuming good) guild, which never hurts.
Playing Suikoden 1, unfortunatly I beat Suikoden 2 first and they are basically the same game. I am also trying to finish up FEAR and Psychonauts. Also trying to squeeze in some Civ4 (World Editing is awesome in the game).

I know what you mean... too bad I am extremely anal in videogames and have to get EVERYTHING! It has almost made the game unenjoyable, but the levels are so well made.
Also anyone know where I can get a decent price on Dragon Quest 7, I wasn't even aware it came out here, and now want to play before Dragon Quest 8.

Ah, my favorite recurring thread. Weird how I look forward to Jetherik's weekly post so I can see what everyone is playing.
Me, I'll be chipping away at some more Resident Evil 4 after officially throwing my hands up in frustration at Call of Cthulhu. Great game hurt by too many unavoidable deaths. I don't like repeating long sequences because of lack of save points. When will all games let you save on-the-fly?
Also contemplating some more SMT: Nocturne, though I doubt I'll have time. And oddly, since Perigon said it, I might also be watching Elfen Lied and other Anime shows; I have overlooked many series and I think it's time to maybe check some out--then again, I have season 5 of The Sopranos to watch, too. Oh, and I might try to tackle some GRRM ASoIaF audio books because I just can't pull myself to speed read them before book 4 comes out next week...and on my birthday to boot. And I should write some more...should being the key word here.
I bet I won't do half of this stuff, but it's nice to have goals, no matter how wispy they are.

Same here, I tried to collect everything. Finally, towards the end, I got fed up and willed myself to stop. Most anal decisions I make in videogames are worthless, anyway. I don't know why I care about what rank I get in RE or how many hours it takes me to beat so-and-so game. I'm an idiot.

Because saving the game on the fly ruins it for everyone, don't you know? When such a function is included, we're legally obliged to use it, therefore ruining any challenge that playing the same sequence over and over again might have.
Still on CoC, this trial and error death/progress criticism seems to be the biggest so far. Is it as bad as many suggest? Give-upingly bad?

Well, to answer your question, I gave up. Pure and simple. I do want to go back, but once I get past the part I am frustrated with, I know that another situation will arise, with no save-state in sight. When I see one of those save paintings, I weep with relief. But when you really need them, there are none around.
The game is great...and extremely scary, but I just don't have the time to keep reloading and trying again, and again....and again. I can beat another game in the meantime. IGN estimated that the game lasts about 20 hours, but a good portion of that time is spent reloading. You WILL die, and many times. You can't avoid it, which takes a lot of the thrill out of the frightening scenes...after the tenth time attempting them. Now I don't get scared...I get annoyed. I call it a very bad design decision, immersion halting to the nth degree, but the rest of the game is superb and is worth checking out if you like survival horror...and stealth games....

Playing a certain unnamed MMO beta a lot. Between that, Civ 4 and more Morrowind.
I'm really jonesing for some PnP D&D but I'm moving to New York in 4 months and I don't want to get too attached to a gaming group and then get up and leave 'em. Anyone have any luck with online PnP games through sites like OpenRPG or such?

Yeah, see that's what spoils it for me. As much as I like re-visiting games I've beaten and playing them again, I hate having to replay sections over and over again because of bad design like that. It's caused me to broom more than a few games in the past, even ones I was initially very enthusiastic about.
Meh, maybe I'll give this one a miss and just stick to the P&P game instead. At least I can wear a monocle in that.

Do yourself a favor and rent it, at the very least. The sense of horror and tension in the game is wonderful. Really, the trial and error gameplay of certain scenes is the only thing that bothered me about CoC. Everything else gels pretty well.

Unfortunately (and according to urban legend) thanks to Nintendo, game rentals just aren't done over here, so my choice is either buy it, or not.
From what you say, it doesn't sound like I'd thank myself for paying full price. I was intending to get my current box chipped when the 360 comes out, so maybe I'll look for a cheap import further down the line. Maybe I could learn to love it.

I'd say I'd join in...but getting to Portland from the County is a rather long trip.
Me, I'm going to be playing Fable...again. It's the Lost Chapters this time around, though.
I don't know why, but I just love Fable to death. It's just...fun. To me, anyway. I suppose it helped that I didn't follow any of the hype and whatnot. Not until the last month or so before the game launched. Since I avoided the whole "being jaded" thing, I thought it was a blast.
So..yeah.

Finishing crappy Call of Cthulhu, and hopefully finally making some progress into Blackwing Lair.
So I'm near the end of Call of Cthulhu, and swear to God, I just got a laser gun. A fucking laser gun. Jesus Christ.
I got a rebate in the mail yesterday from Cingular.. I had been 'not buying' games because of my 360 preorder.. but with the rebate I picked up DOA Ultimate collectors edition, and Ninja Gaiden Black. I had played NInja Gaiden a bit but wow this game just makes you want to cry.. DOA is great, I have allways liked fighting games, never been "great" with them, but haven't owned many either (apart from several KOF's on my NeoGeo CD). If anybody wants to school me in the DOA just send me a note on XBL (mrmiah).

Trying to finish off Castlevania DS (but not really having the time for it), a little Metroid Pinball (great game). Once I finally free up some time later this month, I've got a stack of games I just picked up for dirt-cheap I've got to play through:
Breakdown ($10)
Planescape: Torment ($10)
Icewind Dale 2 ($10)
Deus Ex 2 (PC) ($10)
Descent: Freespace + Expansion (Actually already owned these, got them in better packaging through for a whole $3.)
Giants (Finally got to pay for this game, for a whole $1.50.)
Evolva (Always meant to play the full game, loved the demo when it was released, got it for $1.50)
Diablo (Lost my old copy, got this one for $2.)
Descent 3 + Merc Expansion (Again, better casing, for $3.)
Grand total, $51 + 15% tax = $58.65 Canadian
Now that's some good gaming, and all for under the price of one regular brand-new game. Guess Interplay is blowing out all their old stock (I found these all at a surplus store, couldn't believe my luck).

If Gamestop didn't suck a fat one, I'd be playing it right now. There are seven Best Buys in my state, and the only one within an hour drive (I don't even have a car mind you) was the only store not to ever get any copies. Lots of stuff to play, but I find myself wanting to go out and buy Star Wars: Battlefront II or to *gasp* even purchase SWG: The Total Experience. I'm a huge Star Wars fan. . . well, not really, not in comparison to real Star Wars fans, but I do like games that are about the universe.
Anyway, staving off these cravings by playing the solid bit of titles I already have here at the house (not costing me extra). Civ 4, Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil 4, Soul Calibur 3 (not really a fan of this as a sequel - don't like the game modes due to load times, but the core game is, as always, solid), and I may reinstall the ORIGINAL Star Wars: Battlefront if I start thinking too crazy about it's sequel.

I'll be playing a mix of Soul Calibur 3 and Shining Force NEO. I rented both of them, and they've both proven to be pretty solid rentals for me.
Shining Force Neo was a huge disappointment to me. The voice-acting just made me crazy. . . especially the main character's grandmother and father. The main character and Meryl are okay voice actors, but they could have used better direction. The grandmother and father sound like people using fake voices and the grandmother in particular uses inappropriate emotions in scenes. I'd give examples, but they'd be spoilers and it's still too new.
The fighting was all button-mashing and I never felt challenged (albeit in the first 5 hours of the game - before I returned it using Gamefly - I'm guessing it becomes more difficult later on).
Anyway, I don't see what you like in it, but have fun! :)

I just hit level 40, and after 10 levels of grinding to get my mount, I've lost a sense of purpose in the game. Anyone know what I should do now?
Quests and/or instances? Perhaps quests in instances if the fancy should so strike you.

I finally got around to beating SC2 (xbox) with all the characters yesterday. I would feel guilty about getting SC3 without having at least used every character from 2. Even though I love the series, I'm trying to decide if SC3's new modes (which haven't been reviewed well) and a couple of characters are worth the $50. In the mean time, I'm playing 2. I'll probably also put some more time into FF7 (I just got to the 2nd disc). I've been doing lots of classic gaming the last couple of weeks, too, and Sub Terrania on the Genny will get some action from me this weekend, too. Cool game. I always wanted it, but never got around to actually buying it back in the day.

Shadow of the Colossus, pretty much. Although I have been playing a bit more Metal Gear Ac!d... mostly the trailer for MGS4 makes me want to see Snake younger and vital. And Munch's Odyssey.
Also, I purchased FEAR, knowing full well I just barely met the minimum specifications with my years-old cobbled-together machine. I had hoped I could squeak by, but performance issues make it unplayable, so until I have sufficient Earth monies, I'll be concentrating on the stack of console games I've aquired and not yet finished.

WoW and Civ4, MAYBE some F.E.A.R, plus I have compiler group meetings this weekend, and Cryptography due wednesday. Grades or games? lol, decisions decisions!I sympathize... I've got an insanely tough cryptography seminar (in my first semester of college) and I've nearly given up on it. Fortunately the professor never gives lower than a B for that class :D

Beat Shadow of the Colossus, and Ico just came in the mail. So I should give that a spin. Also, Killer 7 for the GameCube.
With my Xbox broken, I gotta figure out what I'm gonna do. I really can't afford a 360, but almost $100 to fix it? A bunch of games out/coming out (Stubbs, Chthulu, Kong) that I wanna get on my Xbox, so what the hell am I to do?

What stuff? I don't remember collecting much of anything. The stuff in the levels is all superfluous; it's not necessary to collect all of it. But it does unlock some really funny stuff dealing with the people whose heads you're in. Just collect enough arrowheads so that you can buy the cobweb duster, and you're set.

I would love to find a good PnP group in Arizona. Funny, my wife and I were talking about that last night and a few posts talk about it. What is a good way to find groups? I have been out of the PnP loop for six years now, but it was PnP that got me started. I still have the original D&D set.

Due to my inability to find Guitar Hero, I went back and completed FreQuency. Those last few Expert songs are a total bitch...but oh so fun. :D I'm gonna head out and pick up Amplitude at Fry's today.
I've been working on 100% completing Resident Evil 4, too. That game won't get dull for a very long time, I think.
With all the buzz about Shadow of the Colossus, I've played the demo through about twenty times. I think it's got the potential to be an experience unlike anything else; we'll see when I borrow my friend's copy this weekend. Personally, I found ICO to be a horribly overrated game - call me a philistine, call me heartless, tell me I wouldn't know art if it hit me in the face, I don't care. The gameplay is boring and although at times I felt some sort of empathy for Yorda, I mostly found myself just getting frustrated at how bleak the game is, and how loose the controls are. Shadow at least seems to have a far more interesting premise.
If I've got time, I'll be playing some more Fallout 2 also. I waited way too long to try this game - simply fantastic.

I decided to check up on my small stack of unfinished games and decided to give some of them a spin.
First up was Time Splitters 2. I'm currently stuck at the 60s spy level where you have to defuse bombs in time. After once again playing though the whole level and dying a second away from the warp point which would have let me finish the level I gave up on the game once more. I utterly suck at console FPS's and that will not change until I get my hands on the Rev (and chances are it won't change even then :( ).
Next up, Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven. I love the way this game looks and feels. It's visuals have a rather high level of polish that few games can top and the game's atmosphere sets the perfect mood, plus some additional stylistic touches here and there to make it more alluring than a general ninja-type setting.
But the game plays like crap. Well ok, not complete crap, but it has so many mistakes gameplay-wise that it actually destroys the mood. I'll name a few:
- clunky camera. You have to fiddle around with the right analog just to see what your character is seeing at the moment. This creates a lot of stupid situations where your character is behind the corner being attacked and you're not even able to see it.
- unrefined swordplay. For some reason your enemies have 3 times better reflexes than you and can block instantly whilst you have to "pick up speed" for at least a second usually, thus making the block move virtually useless. It is very easy to get beaten up because your character is constantly regaining composure from a previous attack.
- black holes of death. They wouldn't be a problem if you didn't need the half-heartedly implemented ninja rope for it. Cue unexpected deaths and a lot of cursing because one has to restart the level after death. Not fun.
So I'll replay Gunstar Super Heroes. Whatever.

If you aren't busy with all the other great DS games, go pick up Metroid Prime Pinball. It's a total fucking blast to play. I just unlocked the Phazon Mines, Phendrana Drifts, and Artifact Temple tables. You get to battle Omega Pirate, Thardus, and Meta Ridley, respectively.
I also just finished Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, make sure to pick that one up too.

Civ IV baby! Besides a couple of crashes, I'm having a FANTASTIC time with this game. I love the animated combat, and the move to 3d has treated the game very well on the graphics side.
So far, I think it's the best Civ game yet.

If you liked it on the GBA, you'll love it. I think it's fantastic so far. I'm only about 2 hours in though so I'm sure it'll get even better :) I'm kinda a nut for turn based tactics games though. Probably my favorite genre.

Way too much! And it's not a weekend for me, so there's that much less time for it. :(
Civ IV (which needs a patch badly but is brilliant anyway), Guild Wars, just finished SC: Chaos Theory, Timesplitters: Future Perfect, Paper Mario 2, Ultimate Spider-Man (beat it, but still collecting stuff and winning races)... too many good games out right now.
Life is hard in America, when "too many good games out right now" is a problem. :D

Agreed without reservation. They did a really shoddy job getting it out the door (mislabeled discs, tech trees printed in the wrong language, boxes shipped without manuals... c'mon guys, it's Civ IV, you can do better than that! ) and it's crying for a patch.
But it's a great, great, great game. The tweaks they made to the gameplay manage to take so much of the micromanagement out and focus right on the juicy, delicious strategy. Not to mention it's now freaking gorgeous.
Well worth the investment even if it needs another month of QA. Just buyer beware if you pick it up before the patch and have an ATI card or an older GeForce card like the MX400's.

I'm playing the "Fight off the flu bug" game. Loads of fun. The upshot is that it got me out of a 12 hour shift at work today so I was able to play some WoW and finally hit level 50.
Aside from that, I'm just playing Civ IV (EVIL!) and Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, which is a hoot to play (I'm glad I rented it though).
I'm going to go curl up in bed now and read my book. I might bust out the GBA and play some FF1: Dawn Of Souls while I'm there.

Rakael - Nocturne takes a huge swing up in difficulty not that far in. If you feel discouraged and quit, don't let that ruin Digital Devil Saga for you. They are much more beatable and deliver the same ultra-awesome art along with the strange and fun story-line.
Good luck. Also, you have probably already learned this, but it PAYS big to have demons that are adept at two fields of magic as knowing and taking advantage of your foe's weaknesses is the easiest way both to level up and to take on difficult opponents. If you don't have a skill in your lineup to exploit monster's weaknesses then you are going to have a very difficult time with the game.
