According to this CommercialAppeal report (http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/oct/18/suspect-charged-in-game-thefts/), a Technicolor employee has been charged with theft, and another man is under investigation, after several hundred copies of Gears of War 2 and Fable II were stolen from the company.
DVDs were also involved in the robbery, which was valued at more than $100,000.
More through the link.

Whoa! Thats a lot of copies of GoW2 and Fable II....
That is crazy... I wonder if they sold any before they got caught. Crooks are dumb, the theives will probably be online playing GoW2 soon enough.

Raise minimum wage, and workers wouldn't have to resort to selling stolen goods to supplement their income.
Look at that. I just solved the piracy problem. ;)

I think $100,000 is more than supplementing his income, that's just a greedy individual who thought he could get away with stealing.

Excellent work! Now for the unintended consequences of higher retail prices and/or fewer jobs for those workers.

Get a better job and stop blaming everything else, or live with in your means.
I hate thieves, lowest of the low.

Someone leaked them, both are available online if you have modded 360.

I hate spoilers weeks before the game is released and people who pay buko bucks to buy an unreleased game simply have too much money.

Actually it seems the theft and the piracy are linked events.
The guy sells copies of GOW2 to so and so for 200. So and so rips the game and posts it online.
So the damages to Epic are far greater than 100k. More like 3 million.

and Technicolor may also have liability for the theft!
In any case it looks like retail piracy on 360 is focused around the packaging step. Just another reason to go digital distribution.
You guys do realise we're just talking about less than 2000 copies, right? That's not a lot of copies. It's a lot of money (for me, at any rate), but just like razorblades, it surpised me how few products all that money represents.
