I can't see why he thought releasing W actually during the guy's term was a good idea. People who like him (smaller and smaller number that there are) won't want to see it, and most people that I know who don't like the guy (growing by the day), aren't about to waste time and money seeing a movie about him.

Yeah, most people I know can't stand sitting through two hours of Bush, even when it's making fun of him. Something like this might have played well 4 years ago, but by now most of us are so sick of the guy that we'd rather pretend he didn't exist at all.

Although I thought it was a decent movie (THE most accurate game-to-movie translation, IMO), I saw the first showing on opening day of Max Payne in a big theater at the mall near my house. There were 12 people in the theater at MOST, including myself and 3 friends I took with me, lol.

That depends on what the goals of the movie are, republican bashing won't help much if the relevant election is over.

Oliver Stone has done tons of good movies. I guess USA simply can't handle the truth about the moron they elected. I guess the old saying "people don't get the presidents they need, but whom they deserve" is true if you diss Oliver stone.

Evil Avatar, how much time does it generally take you to come up with your clever little Boxoffice intros?

Sounds like somebody has not been doing any reading and is just blindly writing off a movie.
Surprisingly, the Bush movie is being noted for its fair reporting. Stone actually left out many easy attacks on Bush and is attempting to accurately show the early days of Bush and the Bush campaign.
He has annotated everything from public record and is just showing how it was.
He is actually being criticized for not going after Bush when he is so vulnerable and leaving some egregious mistakes out of the movie altogether in favor of just showing the basics.
And 11 million for a film like this is surprisingly high. I agree that no one should want to see this, either because they don't like Bush or because they are right wing and assume it is biased. So it is doing pretty well in a relatively low number of theaters.
The fact that that Chihuahua movie is doing so well still frightens and confuses me.

Good point. Why is Oliver Stone so obsessed with the idea that the events of the past few years actually carry meaning in deep time? I can't wait till the sun becomes a red giant.

I think you guys have it right. I mean, I don't want to see it and I hate the guy. I really don't want to spend 2 hours delving into his life and reliving my anger at many of his decisions. In the same vein, I think anyone who likes him doesn't want to see how the film differs from the heroic persona they've created.

Did you see it? What are you basing your opinion off of? I've heard that Oliver Stone did his research and that for the most part the movie is pretty accurate.
I don't particualry care for Oliver Stone and I've had more than enough of W. so I won't be rushing out to see this.

You seems to fail to grasp the fact that it's wicked boring subject matter for most people. I mean, JFK might have been mostly fantasy, but at least it was based on an interesting concept. These kinds of dramatized history message movies can be riveting entertainment, but IMO only if the subject matter is something interesting. Oliver Stone is a gifted filmmaker, but certainly has a long history of doing movies that make many concessions/assumptions for the sake of drama (again, a good formula for entertainment with the right story concept).
The trailer ends with W. screaming in madness, regardless of your feelings on the man, it's fair to assume it's the kind of film Stone does, which is a highly dramatized pseudo history. Frankly, we're getting that from both sides in the political world right now, not sure why someone would pay $8 for what they could get from any 'news' channel for free these days :).

Oliver Stone didn't have anything to do with the writing of this movie. I heard an interview with the writer, and he spent a long long time researching every little bit he could. He purposely made the movie as in-the-middle as possible because he wanted anyone to be able to watch the film. He even said he was worried that left-wingers would be disappointed with the movie.
This isn't some over the top comedy about W. It's a comedic biographical film. As someone else said, these aren't the kinds of movies that make millions their opening week, and I doubt this film will really be remembered for anything, but it's not a complete piece of crap.
