Xbox.IGN (http://xbox.ign.com/) has posted a hands-on preview (http://xbox.ign.com/articles/664/664253p1.html) of Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows for your viewing pleasure.
You will traverse across 15-plus vast fantasy lands cast in a harmonious blend of Dungeons and Dragons and Conan mythos in search of keys, food, gold, items, and switches. Similar to past Gauntlet games, players will wander around a mixture of indoor and outdoor environments, clubbing hordes of enemies, stomping out regeneration nests, and hitting switches in one section to escape through an exit on the level's far side. One puzzle we witnessed was as simple as all four players navigating underneath four timed blades to hit a switch on the far end. Mess up and you die. Time the rhythm right and live. Food (represented by giant wedges of cheese) is still key to survival, and players can neither destroy food nor mistakenly eat poison food. Classic characters such as Death make cameo appearances. At each level's end a tally menu displays your attacks, items, gold, and more. You'll use gold to buy items.
Finally, the online component of Gauntlet, perhaps the most desired part of the series, has reached fruition. The story mode is fully online, enabling as many as four gamers to connect and play alongside each other regardless of player level. So, a level 1 player can play with a level 40 player.
Release Date: 12/12/2005 (PS2 (http://www.gametab.com/ps2/gauntlet.seven.sorrows/3725/), XBOX (http://www.gametab.com/xbox/gauntlet.seven.sorrows/3724/))
I am curious to see if they can resurrect and improve this franchise.
