Electronic Arts has announced that they will be releasing Command & Conquer - The First Decade, a 12-game compilation celebrating the franchise's tenth anniversary, some time in February 2006.

You can read the full story and see a list of the included games by clicking here (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1520&Itemid=2).

Thanks to Next Generation (http://www.next-gen.biz) for the scoop.

Arriving in February, the package will include a dozen C&C games spanning over the last ten years plus a DVD including an interview with Louis Castle, co-founder of Westwood Studios and the creator of the C&C franchise.Castle, now VP of creative development at EALA said, "Command & Conquer The First Decade offers RTS gamers a way to relive the history of C&C, and I'm thrilled to see this collection offered in one package. It seems like yesterday when we were all pleasantly surprised by the way the gaming community wanted to play this new type of strategy game."
On the subject of milking franchises...

Edit - Thanks to A-Team over at File Rush (http://www.filerush.com) for the following additional information (http://www.filerush.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=13329):

Price - $39.99 - In addition to the already-mentioned dozen games, there will be a bonus DVD with "commemorative" content.

Uhhh... tell me "why" please. Assuming all the fans will already own the games... newcomers wont spend the most likely high price for the set... so uh...

Personally, I lost my CD's. I may pick up the set if it's reasonably priced. I certainly hope they use the gold edition of C&C 1. Also, people could've started late in the series, or have only played Generals.

I am actually excited about this! Unfortunately, all of the old C&C games actually REQUIRE a modem or a direct connection...they won't work with a cable/dsl line (without some creativity). Heh, a buddy of mine and I broke out our old CDs, but we couldn't get the damn thing to work.

So if they are going to do a 10th anniversary, I hope they update the old multiplayer games so we can play them today.

I welcome it, being a fan of the series since the beginning of the C&C franchise.

Long live Kane!!

If they updated the old graphics (not all the way to Generals but a little polish), made multiplayer work on DSL, and streamed the games together (start at C&C and go all the way to Zero Hour) I would be on that like shit on velcro. Hell, I haven't played half of those.

I went back and played Tiberium Sun recently... HORRIBLE GAME.

It'd be cool though if they actually spent some money on this franchise and ensured they'd all work on Windows XP etc etc.

Let's do some math:

Electronic Arts (big publisher) plus Command & Conquer (respected franchise) plus loyal fanbase multiplied by opportunity (hey, we've not released a C&C comp. in a while) equals $$$$

Taking all the above into consideration, my thought is that it will retail for at least $50.

I can't seem to get the original C&C and Red Alert to run on my computer, so I'm happy with this as long as it runs on XP.

I'll be getting it for sure. All the games plus the extra content? Awesome.

I have this Pavlovian response whenever I hear the words "I'm on it! (http://www.r1ch.net/old/c&c/sound/c_imonit.wav)" because of C&C. I'll probably pick this up.

I already added the price to the lead news post, but left my prediction because, well, it was my prediction. I'm allowed to be a little off, aren't I?

I thought it was very mediocre considering how long it was delayed. I think it was well over a year. But all-in-all it was alright.

*Is still waiting for C&C 3: Tiberium Twilight.*

I was younger when it came out. So I really didn't know better. But I seriously saw it at the store bought it, got home. Played for 3 hours (that was a really really really long time when I was younger) went to bed, got up played for an hour, went to school, ran to my friends and said, I HAVE TIBERIAN SUN! they all gasped. Didn't think about anything else during school. Got home played more, and more. And so on. So I loved that game to death!

And I seriously hope that they do another C&C game with Nod and GDI. On a badass 3d engine.....I would honestly cry!

Not at first, but will eventually drop there. I was a HUGE C&C fant up until C&C 2 came out. Then I got sucked into Yuri's Revenge for about a year, but Generals just utterly killed it for me.

C&C Tiberium Sun is the type of game that should be released on a PSP these days. Sony is too busy making 3D games that lack in detail.

I liked Generals alot....but it was NOT...a C&C game. It was a attempt to copy Blizzard. They need to make another Command & Conquer game STAT! :)

I've always been a big C&C fan so I already own most of the good games in the franchise so I'd pretty much only buy this if they were able to update the older games with support for windows xp.

See, this is the sort of shit that gets my goat.

Why do you think it's ok to criticise one party based on your own incorrect assumptions?

Are you going to respond with "Hey, everyone else does it so it doesn't matter" or how about "Look, it's EA, I'm right and they're wrong!"

Know-nothing gamers slamming things they don't understand based on assumptions they're not qualified to make. Yet it's the OTHER guys that are in the wrong or perhaps I'll be made to be the bad guy for picking you up on it.

Maybe gamers will keep schtum for a little while longer and base their views on facts rather than prejudices. But I doubt it.

Don't take it too personally. I could have directed those comments at pretty much any other news post response here. However, when you see the same thing, day after day from people sticking out their chest saying how they're that much more informed than all those other gamers it gets to a point where an outburst is inevitable.

Still - nice way to totally avoid making a proper response to the points I raised.

I'm not taking it personally. Rather, I'm still confused as to why you wrote what you did. I predicted that a 12-game compilation would run $50 (which I still maintain would be a decent price) - I was wrong. So rather than save face by editing my original post, I left it there to show people that I have a little more integrity than that.

I still fail to see why you got so uppity.

That's odd. I explained it clearly in the post above. I don't know about anyone else but replying to my posts in a way that suggests you haven't read them tends to rub me uppity too.

I'm a mellow guy really. I just get a bit weary of repeating myself.

I beg to differ in your claims that you're a mellow guy. Mellow guys don't resort to name-calling on forums (see point 1. below).

Anyways, what I got from your original post was:

1. That you were calling me a know-nothing gamer - a statement based on what, exactly?

2. You seem to be saying that I'm in no position to make a prediction. Again, based on what, exactly?

Perhaps if you quit trying to win in your perceived battle of grammatical swordplay you'll take some time to expand on your original points. Or correct me if my take on your post is off. Either way, it's up to you.

Could it just be, though, that your clear undying love for everything Electronic Arts-related has colored your opinion in such a way that you cannot control the urge to needlessly attack people who may not agree with you?

Sorry for the delay folks, hadn't check my subscriptions. :)

We golly gee. I guess you must know me better than I know myself. If you say I'm not a mellow guy then who am I to argue?

Anyways, what I got from your original post was:

1. That you were calling me a know-nothing gamer - a statement based on what, exactly?

Don't take it personally, 99.9% of gamers know very little about very little. You shouldn't equate your ability to regurgitate other people's news on a community based website as knowledge. I was a gamer like you many moons ago - I totally sympathise with where you're coming from. I just don't happen to respect it any more.

2. You seem to be saying that I'm in no position to make a prediction. Again, based on what, exactly?

On the assumption that you're not psychic (if you are, then you knew I would say that which makes me ask "Hey, if he knew I'd say it, why did he ask such a dumb question?").

Additionally, I also assume that you're not a driving force in the game industry and aren't in a position to dictate the direction it will follow.

Perhaps it would be quicker if I asked you what makes you think you're in a position to make such predictions?

Perhaps if you quit trying to win in your perceived battle of grammatical swordplay you'll take some time to expand on your original points.

I can't win. I make long detailed posts (with the usual grammatical errors) and people complain. I make shorter posts and people complain. I'm beginning to think you don't love me.

Or correct me if my take on your post is off.

Hey! That's a good idea. I should try that one day.

Could it just be, though, that your clear undying love for everything Electronic Arts-related has colored your opinion in such a way that you cannot control the urge to needlessly attack people who may not agree with you?

Nope.

Let me know if you want me to expand on that. :p
