VE3D (http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/42406/Dead-Space-PC-Has-2nd-Worst-Controls-Ever) has a story tonight about a review copy of Dead Space PC, and allegedly the controls are pretty bad. The author calls them the second worst control scheme ever.
The controls are 2nd to the worst controls we’ve seen ever since Path of Neo came to the PC platforms. The smoothness compared to consoles is just not there, and from what we can tell it doesn’t seem like a patch can fix most of the issues. Inventory stack access becomes frustrating when fighting with monsters and aiming for on-the-fly changes. The controls just aren’t smooth.
Looks like another shoddy PC port. GG EA.

From what I hear, the controls are as such deliberately -- as in any survival horror game. It ain't a fast-action arcade shooter, after all. you're suppose to be somewhat inept so that these monsters are formidable. Anyone can make a mouse-controlled game that's insanely accurate, but I don't think Dead Space is suppose to allow for insane rapid-speed acucracy.
In any case, I'll be using my xbox 360 wired controller for the appropriate, intended experience.

I thought Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy had the worst PC controls of all time. ;)

Good thing I got the 360 version, almost waited for the PC version instead. So far I'm loving every minute of the game.

This is definitely going to weigh on my mind when deciding whether to buy a copy for PS3 or PC.

I appreciate this post. I was going to hold off for the PC version because of the better graphics, but really I'm getting the atimdkag.sys error on my new cpu anyway and so would probably crash at inopportune times to begin with. Add the bad controls and it could be a real bummer. I'm just gonna grab the 360 version. :D
Does the PC version allow for a 360 controller? That's what I play most of my action-ish games on PC with anyway.

Meh.. if it turns out to be so horrible, I can always plug my 360 controller into the the PC. If it is horrible, that would definitely suck balls, but it's not like you have to get the console version to use the console control scheme.

I call shenanigans on this. They just say the controls suck and don't allow for fluidity, but don't go into HOW and WHY.
If you're going to criticize something, especially going so far as to say 'don't buy this', then you should bloody well elaborate and support your argument.

I don't know if these are shenanigans quite yet. This is the second review (I think the other was PCZone uk or something) that specifically said the controls were completely busted on the PC. The other review said that accuracy was greatly reduced to generate a console-control feel on PC. I hope it isn't true as I really wanted it on PC and was willing to deal with that damn DRM. If it has the DRM, and crap controls, then I'm off to my 360 or PS3 sadly....

sounds like a lame excuse to get people to pay 10 dollars more for a console game and discourage pc piracy at the same time. Problem with that idea EA is that the these games aren't devoloped on a console, their developed on a PC. How can you not have PC controls down when you have so many shooter franchises. Will you just rise to the occasion and stop trying to pull the wool over our eyes. Your motives are so transparent. Do you really think we the gaming community are so niave?
Take a deep breath, count to ten, step up to the podium, and do what is right for your own business' future and to keep any customers you count on for future business. after all, there is Ubisoft and take-two that have a genuine interest to topple you with quality, because with that comes fanfare and adoration.
Keep it up, your doing great!

Whoever thinks those controls are the worst ever has obviously NOT player E.T. on the Atari.

Some games/genres just aren't meant to be played on a PC.
It's as simple as that.

Problem with that is, Dead Space ain't a survival horror game. Horror, yes. Survival? Hardly. ALL of the action is fast in this game--play it, you'll see.
The biggest issue with the PC controls would be the fact that everything in Dead Space is done on the fly--no menu screens here.
If you open your inventory, everything is still going on around you. So that necromorph chewing on your leg isn't going to politely wait for you to recharge your stasis meter.
The controls on the 360/PS3 are tight because they have 1 -pad and two thumbsticks. The PC, well, has a mouse...and a keyboard. Sure, the keybord has lots of keys, but it's not that same.
Not saying discount the PC version entirely, just saying that I'd imagine it'd be awful tough to go into your inventory during a heated fight on the PC version. That being the case, for those PC-only people out there, I hope the 360 controller works with the game!

Hint: Don't mess around in your inventory when there are monsters around.

Still getting it for PC, 360 controller fixes it as others have mentioned if its that big of a deal. No suprise either.

This is sad. Very sad.
I suppose I will have to see how it goes and hear from everyone else. I actually think that a shitty control scheme ruins a game. If you're frustrated the whole time trying to accomplish any given goal, it's just not fun.
