After playing the hell out of Crysis: Warhead and Crysis Wars since launch I was in the mood to get back to my favorite genre, racing sims.
It had been a while since I last played Live for Speed (http://www.lfs.net/) and it did not take long for it to hook me back in. If you've never heard of it; Live for Speed is a hardcore sim that sports a fairly forgiving driving model. By that I mean it has all the usual car setup options and excellent physics, but you can still play it with an Xbox 360 controller if you don't have a wheel. The most impressive thing about this ongoing indie project is that the development team consists of only three people (Scawen Roberts, Eric Bailey and Victor van Vlaardingen).
If you'd like to give it a try you can download (http://www.lfs.net/?page=downloads) the full version which functions as a demo until you purchase an S1 or S2 license.
What have you been Playing?

I've been playing Peggle Nights and Rainforest Adventure.
Live for Speed is a 132MB download, just in case you try one of those mirrors that doesn't tell you. :) Don't think a file that small will matter for most people though. ..I was expecting it to be 5 or 10 times that. Looks nice. Did anyone try Trackmania Nations on Steam? (free.) That's a fun twist on the racing genre IMHO.
I'm playing GTA: San Andreas again. Just like the sandbox world and the driving. (and the radio, and the random things CJ and everyone around him say.)

I played Nations for a long time. When Trackmania United came out on Steam I pre-ordered it.
Nadeo is a good developer. They added a lot more content for free with the 'Forever' upgrade than many put in expansions they charge for.
Civ 4: Colonization, mainly. It's definitely tough to get the hang of. Just won my first game last night after 5 attempts.

Dead Space is quite the surprise! Incredibly polished and damn freaky at times...

Dead Space is my game right now and Rock Band 2 when I've got people visiting. Dead Space is one great game.

It's pretty fun, but lacking a bit of polish I thought. Especially when simply walking into dead bodies punts them 30 metres, while gravity is supposed to be on. The staged events can trigger a bit prematurely too. Still a pretty fun game.

Yup .. Matchbox cars on steroids is the perfect description. That game was just fun. The ease with which you could restart the race, and the throwaway nature of the cars (those dead-end finish lines) made it non-stop action, and just different somehow. (In many many good ways.)
I bought United too. Had endless fun with it, and continue to do so. I must try for more of those online records. ..Bunching everyone up into countries was smart too. Gives a great sense of national pride.
Yup, anyone with a passing interest in racing games should check it out. I mean, it's free after all. Just like Live for Speed (http://www.lfs.net/) :D

TKO, after you put the idea in my head I ended up playing a ton of Trackmania today. ;)
Yeah, I played a ton of Trackmania too. I'm not gonna have enough sleep. :D Tried out the platform levels for the first time. Man, those things are devious.
