It looks like both Amazon.com and Netflix show the US release date for Final Fantasy Advent Children to be in January of 2006. Ebgames doesn't even have a page for it anymore.

This has been out on Torrent and such channels for awhile now... I wonder if they're going to add something new because of it?

LOL, WTF??? they really don't want to make any money on this do they? OR Maybe US will get a good version with a solid plot AND solid story :O... NAH it'll never happen lol.
What!?!? I've had this on dvd for the past 2 months, :)

i enjoyed it for what it was. If they had released something like this instead of that unmentionable crap years ago, then this would probably be so much better. The one thing that kept this from being truly great is the story, it was seriously rushed. The Japanese got it though, and in most cases they understand these stories way better than others outsid of the country. An example ? Casshern...did really well over there...but the story was so convoluted that it didn't translate well at all here.

Agreed. Great movie in the end though.

Weren't they supposed to remove the Last Order short animation from the US release of AC? Maybe they decided to put it back in or face the wrath of the angry otaku masses.

I thought Advent children was worse than the spirit within. Girlie looking guys pretty lame story I played the games but even then I felt kinda lost.

Bastards.... I tried to hold out, really I did, but I finally broke down and downloaded it a few days ago. IT'S A FRIGGAN MOVIE!!!! Why are we seeing delays equal to game title delays?! Like Chagrinful said, if they want to make money on this movie, they better pick up the pace because people are loosing intrest by the second.

AND
*spoiler*
The gay "lets throw cloud into the air scene" shit, that was a bit beyond what you can do in any given anime wtf was that! FUCK that and more lame scenes not even fit for the like of Pokemon or other shit. It was just like UGH, shit the movie makers were sitting around and said "How can we stick 20 or more main characters into 90mins? OH I KNOW lets have a really gay sequence!"

If you've already seen FF7AC, you didn't pay for it, so don't bitch about it. I mean, what the hell were you expecting? It had several decent action sequences and some pleasant references to the game.
I was actually worried that it'd be a lot more Casshern-esque, i.e. with 30 seconds of action meant to justify 90 minutes of navel-gazing overproduced nonsense devoid of character, plot (yes I understood everything that happened), or meaning beyond a simple grade-school view of morality. Neither film is significant, but FF7AC has its entertaining moments if you liked the game.
And if you find girly-looking bad guys a sticking point, how is it that you like anything from Japan? Really, I'm not certain that they have any other kind.
I watched it, thought it was great for what it was.

Don't feel stupid if you ever get confused by japanese storytelling. It's not that they're smarter, or that the translation makes it harder to understand. It's just that culturally, the japanese have a different method of telling stories. They don't get hung up on explaining every little thing like we do in the western world. If there is a core to the story, they concentrate on that and make it as interesting as possible. In the end though, it can drive you nuts when you want to say "but what the fuck HAPPENED"
perfect example? Neon Genesis Evangelion. Holy crap. Explain THAT ending to me.

I absolutely LOVED Advent Children. I had hoped that the DVD would be out over here before Christmas but alas.
I agree. If they had released this instead of Spirits Within it would have blown people away. Sure, the story is somewhat wonky but it's exactly what a FFVII fan would want.
The main point is that the action sequences are, and I don't tend to swear around here, shit hot. I watched the movie the first time with no subtitles and was just blown away by how great the set-piece action sequences were.
The fact that the story essentially ties up most of the loose ends from FFVII is nice too.
I would have paid good money just to watch the Bahamut scene on the big screen though. Alas, I'll just have to wait and eventually I'll have a projector that I can use to watch it.

This is true, but it only goes so far. Simply trying to figure out what is happening from disjointed scenes does not add significance, and if the story isn't worth the effort, it is only an annoying distraction.
The amount of obfuscation in FF7AC is minimal. If you really understood FF7, it isn't hard at all to make sense of.
Both of Evangelion's endings are in general not too hard to follow. There are things moment to moment which are very open to interpretation, but the general gist of it is fairly well set up by the series. The web is brimming with resources to help if you feel lost there.
To me, the difference is that if someone sat down and explained the movie to you, would you think it was idiotic and worthless? FF7 and AC are clever if not too terribly complex, Evangelion is deep and interesting (regardless if you like it or not). But then you have something like Casshern, which is so outlandishly stupid that I'm pretty sure that not understanding it is a prerequisite to liking it.
It's the Lost Highway syndrome. I don't care how intricately mangled the plot is, a movie is bad if it just feels like a waste of time once you figure it out.

Is there a reason for the delay?

Is there a reason for the delay?
Ask not if there is reason, ask instead if there is good reason.

Its nothing too mind-blowing, after viewing the japanese cut. Blizzard's cinematic intro for Starcraft: Ghost blows this film away.
Come on Blizzard just get on with it and make a Diablo CG film. ;)

Is there anyone who wants to see this and hasn't yet?
And yes Blizzard should make a CG film, as much as I hate them their art teams are amazing.

>the japanese have a different method of telling stories
I don't agree.. my gf is Japanese and she also doesn't like these "WTF happened" stories. In my experience non-japanese people *think* it is cool to like these kind of stories/movies/books. It makes them feel more hard-core and "into" J-culture. Evangelion is a very good example of a total shit story that is loved by many (western?) otaku. I would even argue that Japanese are usually fans of much stricter story telling (go and see some Kabuki or Gibli movies). Story telling is indeed more important that a 100% coherent plot, but Evangelion cannot even do that. Asian people do have a tendency to not care for happy endings and prefer a "moving" story instead. The Japanese have found out a long time ago that doing "weird" shit usually gets them recognition in the west. Strange no?
Anyway.. I checked out AC and sadly, just like I expected, it is juvenile shit that probably has quality value for FF fans, but not for non fans. IMHO opinion of course... your mileage may vary.

hehe.. I would kill for a W40K movie done by those Dawn of War intro movie guys. Now *that* was stunning.

Oh hell yeah, Blur did such an outstanding job on that intro. They should work with Gamesworkshop to produce a Warhammer film. Man that would rule.
And as for Advent Children, that film had as much of storyline as Spirits Within did. All FF:AC is, is nothing but a showcase of the characters from FF7 and showing them off in cg form. Every battle was the same crap too, floating DBZ fights. FF:AC suffered from what Spirits Within did: All Eye Candy; No substance.
Althought I think that Spirits Within had better lighting, character animations and character models. I can only handle so much adrogeny on male characters in one film. The one good thing FF7:AC did have that was outstanding was Bahamut, that creature design was so damn crazy looking and impressive.

FF:AC was a fanservice to all the people wanting more FF7. They obviously weren't going for much of a plot because they knew they didn't need to develop all the characters and such. They filled my empty cup of FF7 plenty.

I think FFVII is one of the best games ever but IMO it had nothing to do with how much this movie rocked. Best action scenes and direction i have ever witnessed, period.

I'd recommend you visit one of the many bit torrent sites on the net and just grab your own copy. It's a 650 meg file at least and I, for one, don't have time to upload it to you!
It should still be pretty easy to find.
