Thank you for applying for the Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach Beta. We are pleased to invite you to join us in this phase of the game's development...
May have been underway before but now it's underway for me, and that's news!

Apparently it's against the NDA to say you are in Beta.

Nooooo, why do I have to work today? Some unknown person not breaking the NDA according to Derella might have gotten into the beta... I have to wait 8 hours for them to play?

Wait, why would that be against the NDA if
Turbine, Inc. announced today that Dungeons & Dragons Online™: Stormreach™ is officially in public Beta and that IGN Entertainment will be the exclusive host. As part of the arrangement, IGN will widely promote the Beta to the millions of gamers who regularly visit IGN's sites, including IGN.com.
Millions of gamers can't say they're in a beta?

Millions of gamers aren't in the beta. IGN is making the Beta more visible(ie: promoting) to the millions of people who visit their network.

Also, see this link (http://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php?&postid=272768#post272768) posted by the community rep at DDO.com:

If you are accepted into the Beta you should NOT post about it on these forums. The Beta is currently under an NDA.

Post "about the beta", yes... but he didn't say anything about it one way or the other. He just mentioned the fact that he was invited to join it. That's hardly NDA-breaching stuff.

The post that I quoted in my reply above is in response to the following question:

A lot of Beta NDAs require that you not tell anyone you are in the Beta. A recent example would be the closed Beta of City of Villains... No one could say they were in the beta until the Pre-Order people got in.

Edit: I'm not trying to police the NDA in anyway. I'm just pointing out what I read on the DDO.com forums.

People'd be after you on "those forums," it's cool here :D

LOL :p

Riiight. Because that would make sense. "Don't say you are in the beta on our official forums, but feel free to say it everywhere else!"

Oh, and I'm after you on these forums... *frantically checks e-mail again, then cries*

Of course not. That's why you're pushing the issue. ;)

Btw, I got my beta email today too. But it's unlikely I'll have the time to play it.

I'm pushing the issue because people keep refuting what I posted. That, and I'm jealous of all the people in beta. :p

If I were trying to police the NDA, I'd e-mail Turbine.

I was in the beta for Auto Assault and it sucked.

Oh wait.. that's irrelevant. :)

Its actually not that unusual to announce the beta, but still have it be under an NDA so people can't even talk about the fact that they are participating. I believe that Derella is right, and I agree with him that I'm quite jealous of those getting in to the beta for this.

Well I don't particularly care if I break the NDA.
I really have no intention of continuing onto this limited beta.

The game should be cool. The idea and the design goals are admirable.
It just feels horribly rushed. Right now, it's a mess. Not like your typical "just finished alpha" mess - but more like a "why are you bothering with outside testers when its barely playable?" mess.

I wish them all the best, and I hope they release a great piece of software.
I'd love to play the game they seem to be aiming at making - but this thing is just not ready to move forward.

Considering they've set such a high bar with both the D&D name and the new and somewhat interesting (if only because it includes everything and the kitchen sink in a steampunk pastiche) setting of Eberron, they'd better hope it really takes the market by storm, or we could be in for another Star Wars Galaxies, where the (at the time) most successful online MMORPG company takes one of the greatest licenses of all time and created utter garbage.

To cast my tabletop D&D geek vote, they should have gone with the Forgotten Realms, which has oodles more content and is far more well known. Eberron, as nifty as the art is and as nice a guy as the creator is, just doesn't seem to have nearly as wide an appeal.

That being said, I'd still check out the beta!

I got my email last night, but I never got a chance to play. I'll hit it up later and offer some impressions tonight!

...

Oh. Oh right. Is it against the rules to post my opinions on the game using smiley faces? :)

That's part of why the chose Eberron though. Forgotten Realms has waaaay too much content, all of which has been mapped out in every detail. The continent they have chosen to use for Eberron is a blank canvas for them, and they have free reign to do what they want with it.

Plus, I'm sure WotC wanted them to use Eberron in hopes of promoting the setting further. ;)

I played a SUPER early alpha of this game (I have a friend who has connections). And the games combat is more like Rune with RPG elements then Guild Wars.

...Forgotten Realms is one of the worst pieces of garbage ever to come out of the TSR/WOTC doors. Now I don't like Eberron, but it's a sight better than the cheese-fest that is Forgotten Realms. Give me Greyhawk, Spelljammer, or Planescape any day of the week.

Also I'm sooo NOT in the beta. Seriously, I'm denying it. Not in the beta. Not in the beta. Not in the beta.

I never lie and I don't believe in sarcasm! >.> <.<

I'm with Perigon. I don't hate the setting as much as he does, but it's just so overused. I'd much rather they explore some of their less-used universes. Dragonlance would've been nice, imho.

OMG, a MMORPG that would let me play as a Kender?!?! Actually, a single player game about a Kender who just hits wanderlust would be even better. There's so much endless possible there. One of my favorite quotes, "To a Kender, the only thing more interesting than a closed door is a sleeping dragon."

Ok, I'm a dork, what can I say.

Ah, but you're our dork.

God, they just need to do that. Just make an RPG set in Dragonlance world. Need not even been an MMO. Just something good. Hell.
