6 years after the visually-inspiring Matrix lobby shootout, Criterion rolls out Black: the lobby shootout trailer.
6 years... Bullet-time was stolen from the get-go, but the lobby shootout? Monolith only wasted 3 with The Ring.

Holy CRAP! I just downloaded this from FileFront and I've NEVER gotten such a fast connection A) at work and B) from FileFront. It was a solid 2 MB/sec. Downloaded the whole thing in like 15 seconds. What's going on there?
What's wrong with bashing something that's clearly derivative? Isn't that what seperates this site from sites like ign where they'd probably link this video with the text description 'must see mind-blowing footage!' ?

actually, the lobby scene was stolen the version of 3DMark that had an early max payne type demo, though the demobenchmark had zero to do with the final game.

Those guys developed the Burnout series. I mean how can u not be excited about this?
The matrix game blew and fear doesnt have destructive levels. Plus black looks a lot cooler then fear...

matrix comparison bashing aside, this trailer sucks ass even if the matrix never existed. I mean its a guy who walks forward with a gun shoots and kills stuff. I saw nothing exciting about that at all. Oh there was some destroyable terrain, but i have no idea if it is scripted destroyable terrain or dynamic. I mean i can rig up max payne 2 to have destroyable pillars.

In your opinion. Go cry me a river. There are a lot better videos over at gamespot then this trailer. Of course ive played fear. I dunno, I think Black looks like your regular old shooter. ANd i havent really scene, anything that hasn't been done before, better. It looks like you walk around holding the trigger to me.

It looked pretty dynamic. I mean, he was shooting at it, and a piece fell on one of the bad guys. Obviously whoever was playing knew something like that could happen, but it didn't look like we were watching a video (well, we were, but a video of someone playing the game).

i saw nothing not done better in fear. It's pretty safe to say that since it's Xbox, ps2 only that fear has far better graphics on most systems.

fear looks like half life 1 on my comp cause i have to run everthing at the minimum...

Now I only played the FEAR demo, but as far as I can tell this game doesn't look any less bland. Whereas FEAR was filled with lots of black and/or grey, I mostly saw yellow in this trailer. Lots and lots of yellow.

This game has mostly been getting press because of the "totally awesome destructable environments - and guns!", to quote your average Xbox/PS2 gaming site editor.
Oh, and Criterion also made sure to keep the game super secret for a long time, allowing the forum fanboys to fuel the flames of hype even further.
Personally I couldn't care less about this game. :)

Personally I couldn't care less about this game. :)
I was almost sort of nearly hyped when this was first announced and I saw some screens... but then no... as a console release its sort of technically impressive but the gameplay looks boring of course.

Why do developers think that FPS's are BETTER on consoles?
If gamepads were the superior controller solution, then you wouldn't see gamers around the world playing CS:S/FEAR/HL2 with a mouse and keyboard. I don't think it's a matter of learning curve, I think it's a matter of precision control that you get with a mouse that you don't get with a controller.
That is why this game will be lame. If i've got fully destructable environments, i want to be able to blow chunks out of the bridge the baddies are standing on, not have autoaim make me pop him in the face.
It's a real pity though, i was looking forward to this till i learned it's console only...::sigh::

I love bungie and all, but i think that their games really got dragged down when they got bought out by MS. Also, there are many PC FPS's that are far superior to the halo series. (I know this is going to set off a crazy flamewar, but there seriously are no really great FPS's on consoles, barring halo, and that's only because *** forced bungie to port it to xBox first, basically getting people to buy xboxes just to buy halo)
Also, halo 2 is an incomplete game, which is less than optimal.
