Gamecloud has posted an interview (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=2118) with Lionhead's Stephen Hood, talking about the upcoming movie studio sim game, The Movies.
Gamecloud: The heart of the game is making the movies themselves. How hard was it to give the player as much freedom as needed to make the movies that he or she may want to do?
Stephen Hood: It’s only the heart in terms of it being the goal you need to achieve in order to make serious profit. You can, as studio boss, get your writers to create your studios’ masterpieces and let those you’ve hired take the pressure off yourself. Of course, they don’t have the kind of creativity the player will be able to bring to the table which is where Advanced Movie Maker (AMM) comes in. The AMM offers the player the chance to make the kind of film they’ve always wanted to write and direct – it really is enormous fun seeing the fruits of your labor hitting the big screen, being reviewed by the in-game critics and raking in the dollars. The AMM was designed from the ground-up as a tool which is both accessible and powerful for all levels of players and therefore allows them to create simple 1920 black & white movies right through to Hollywood action blockbusters in the year 2000 and beyond.
It wasn’t necessarily a hard task once it was focussed on, it just took a while to refine what we expect will be a great selling point of The Movies. Some people will buy the game solely to make movies using AMM we’re sure!
