They wasted very little time getting this out there. Joystiq is reporting (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/11/ea-store-reveal-spore-creepy-and-cute-parts-pack/) that you can now pre-order the first expansion pack for Spore titled 'Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack' through EA's online store for the low price of $20.

Well, that was fast. With just over a month since Will Wright's Spore was released to the masses, a listing has popped up on Electronic Arts' online store for Spore: Creepy & Cute Parts Pack, something we've known to be coming since our E3 2008 interview. You can currently pre-order the expansion, available as direct download for $19.95 on Tuesday, November 18, though that could change. Are you ready for an onslaught of creepier (and cuter) penis creatures?

$20 for more creature parts? Sounds a little steep when you can buy the full Creature Creator for $10. What do you all think? Is anyone still playing Spore?

I'm waiting for the one that patches Ikea furniture into the game.

Yeah, I never STARTED playing even though I have the Galactic Edition due to the DRM account restirictions bullshit! Maybe 3 years from now when they finally fix it correctly or I can buy a new 2nd copy for $10 I will get to play Spore.

I'm surprised that you find the fact that you have to share an account with your wife enough of a problem to not play a game where the actual account has absolutely nothing to do with the gameplay.

Either way, I think that $20 is FAR too much for new parts. Maybe an expanded mode or two, but unless the new parts somehow open up gameplay options (highly unlikely) I think this is a way too much nickle and diming.

I'd love a water expansion set.

I'll totally take that GE copy off your hands if you're not going to use it... wouldn't want it going to waste :D

didn't that just come out last month? And now they have an expansion? Seems like a rip-off. I hate EA's business model. I suppose thats why I'm really selective about what games I buy from them. It's getting less and less all the time as these tactics never end.

Just deliver a good game, thats innovative and fun. The user base will follow if it has merrit. Look what's happening to the fallout franschise. 3 great fallout games by interplay, and you can see the adoration it gets for the sequel. They did that by simply making a great game.
Sadly, it looks like EA will be remembered for their crappy practices towards gamers. Kepp on diggin that grave EA, your doin great.

I blame Microsoft for setting a president whereby it suddenly becomes okay to charge for the slightest bit of extra content.

Of course Criterion's extra content has been stellar, so my argument is self-defeating.

Really - I'm just waiting for my girlfriend to get off work.

you blame Microsoft? Then your blame would be misplaced friend, EA have been doing this since August 31, 2000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sims#The_Sims:_Livin.27_Large). Long before XBox Live Marketplace. Of coarse Spore would follow the exact same buisness model as the Sims.

More on topic, i'm sure i'll end up picking this up, i have really enjoyed playing spore and the Mrs' loves making creatures.

Playing? No.

<shill>Buy Hinterland.

It's less than half the price and two times more the fun.

Spore had such a one-time play for me. After the creating novelty wore off (maybe the third stage), it was just like playing dumbed down AAA titles. The space stage was interesting , but even it got to be the same thing on a deeper level.

First the DRM horseshit and now they're releasing an expansion one month after release?! FFS, if that doesn't prove that they're developing content and then chopping it up to parcel out later I don't know what does.

EA and Spore can go fuck themselves sideways.

All I can say as a PC gamer is "Thank god for Valve."

Yes, $20 is way too much. $12 would be a probable, but still, if it's just a collection of some weird arms, legs, eyes and stuff an nothing new in gameplay, then $6 or $8 would be more of the value point. The addition of an intermediate stage where you are a fish would be a real expansion worth the dough. I know it was worked on but later dropped.
