Edge Online has posted an article (http://www.edge-online.com/features/left-4-deads-10m-ad-campaign) covering Valve's $10M ad campaign for their upcoming zombie blaster, Left 4 Dead (http://store.steampowered.com/app/500/). It looks like Valve is poised to strike gold yet again. "People had really strong reactions to Left 4 Dead when we started showing it," said Valve managing director Gabe Newell in an interview. "Our pre-orders are running 60 percent ahead of Orange Box. This in combination with the fact that it is a new IP made us think that an extensive marketing program made a lot of sense."Thanks MCV (http://www.mcvuk.com/).

I know Im excited for this, its just too bad that its gonna be overshadowed by a few other games that I'll be picking up around the same time. Hmm Gears2/LBP come to mind.

Why do we need yet another zombie game? And what is with the recent co-op obsession? People like me will have to play with complete strangers. Color me unimpressed. I'll stick with RE5 and HL Episode 3, thanks.

You can play L4D single player, with AI team mates.
RE5 is also going to be a co-op heavy zombie game.

Thanks for the tip, but I still don't get this co-op craze. When did gamers become so bloody social? I grew up with it in the 80s and 90s being a solo activity and for the most part it remains that for me. I have yet to even play an MMO, but thats mostly due to not liking fees.
I feel very uneasy playing co-op with strangers online. I feel like I'm in invading their privacy somehow, like I should be playing against them. Feels unnatural, and I get an instant inferiority complex, like I'm going to screw up their game. Must be YEARS of playing deathmatch in Quake and Unreal.
Here is the summary of my co-op experience:
Log in to play GTA4 cops and robbers mode. Immediately get put in the drivers seat of a police car with 4 other players. I panic and don't understand where I'm supposed to go, and promptly run into a tree. Other players yell that I suck at driving. Panicking and embarassed at ruining their game, I immediately quit.
I can't imagine what an idiot I'll make of myself in L4D. This is probably why I always avoided team sports like the plague. Sadly co-op reminds me of this. When its deathmatch, no one cares that I suck. In co-op, I'm a pariah.

Actually I understand where you're coming from, which is why I generally only play with friends. The odd time I've been online with Ev Avers I have had a blast. It was about the social element rather than winning the game.
Tell you what, you ever grab a copy of L4D or RE5, feel free to hit me up for a game. We can suck together.

Elektro, try meeting up with the Evil Avatar, Grey Wolves (my clan), or BRBUninstalling people when Left4Dead comes out (or now, if you're into TF2). All three are clans of older, mature (relatively :)) players with jobs, families, and good senses of humor about their gameplay. Sure, we're competitive, but we value sportsmanship and maturity more than bodycounts.
Co-op is a blast with cool players, don't sell it short. Feel free to PM me for more info.

I think I may hit you up with a FR. I have a few buddies with the same mentality. I was trying to get into TF2 but being paired up with people that were selfish about the gameplay and didnt think big picture left a real sour taste in my mouth. Hope we can get some games together.

I'll keep that in mind.... since I'm a crazed collector, I'll probably grab L4D, and RE5 is a must.

It's funny how my inclination toward online play was destroyed by actually engaging in it.
Too many asshats online. If I wanted to play against/with random racist/homophobic/judgmental/moronic pre-adolescent fools, I'd...well, I wouldn't want to do that, which is why I so rarely play online any more. Random online play is a prescription for welcoming asshatery into my home from afar.
Gaming with friends, however, is the bees knees. Of course, I never understood that expression. Bees don't have knees, to my knowledge. Also, they sting.
