EA will be dunking Simpsons donuts into next-gen systems following a deal with Fox Television and Gracie Films. Under the terms of the deal, EA will release mulitple Simpsons games while working closely with Fox's Merchandising department, Gracie Films and the show's writers. The financial terms of the deal haven't been revealed, or a date for the first game, but it has been announced that EA's Redwood Shores studio is handling development of the first game. More details can be found over at Boomtown (http://xbox.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=9695).

Can't say I'm totally shocked or excited about this news. Has there ever been a good Simpsons game aside from the old Konami arcade?

The GTA-like one was very fun but other than that they have been pretty bad.

How does EA manage to take the good things in my life and crush them? *sigh*

Only Hit N Run (I think that was the one) was any good and it was good. It wasn't quite a Simpsons adventure game but it was still good fun and authentic as you could ask for.

The tripe they're gonna bring out now will be reminiscent of the horde of Simpsons tie ins that came out in the mid 90s. I would hope they can create another Hit N Run game though or a nice free-roaming story based adventure where you can roam Springfield and play out a story.

I think the fact there are so few decent Simpsons games means, at the very least, EA does not have anything to ruin. Hopefully they will pull off the "Elite Force" of the series.

they let Vivendi(and contracted/owned developer) bring the franchise to glory(in the console category) with the topselling Hitīnīrun, then EA buys it and will milk the shit out of it. EA has a big wallet, and amazing PR guys.... and Happy non-gaming share holders.

Woot EA news, let us quickly hate them no matter how obscure it is.

Damn you EA you're going to ruin my simpsons skateboarding, the game comprised of the finest skating mechanics and realistic components.

Don't know if you've actually PLAYED any of their games in the last five years...

... but they can ALWAYS make something worse.

Always.

In related news, EA stock jumped up 7% because they announced their quarterly loss will be less than expected.

Remake the Arcade Game, slap some network ability to make it play as if you were at the actual arcade, and ummm slap in guest characters to play.

Steady on there. Can you guys at least wait until you see what we are doing before slagging it off? I know this is EA and all, this site generally just hates EA on a matter of principle, but at least take a look at it before you write it off.
And by the way, I worked on Elite Force too...

I'll wait and see, but with baited cynicism.

The history of Simpson's games and EA licensed games is not fuel for optimism.

I can see it now: 'Goldeneye: Springfield Agent'.
