Electronic Arts sends along word that registration is now open for the Battlefield 2: Modern Combat "Best of the Battlefield" tournament. Visit http://battlefield.ea.com (http://battlefield.ea.com/) today to find out how you and your squad can register and take a run at the $250,000 grand prize.

Brought to you by Electronic Arts, the "Best of the Battlefield" Online Tournament begins on November 21, so rally your clan, sign up and start practicing. Space is limited and registration is first come, first served.

This massive Battlefield 2: Modern Combat tournament will be the most adrenaline-soaked online tournament ever, and will take place on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox consoles. 128 clans (10 players per clan) from each console will duke it out for the grand prize. Clans will go head-to-head in fierce online action until only two teams remain - one on PlayStation 2 and one on Xbox. The clan with the highest score in the final round of their platform bracket gets to choose the platform for the Championship Match. This is certain to be the tournament of 2005 for serious Battlefield fans, but space is limited. Sign up early -- and practice often!

Prizing:

Grand Prize: $250K - One cash purse awarded to the team that wins their platform bracket and the championship.
First Prize: $50K - One cash purse awarded to the team that wins their platform bracket but loses the championship.
Second Prize: $10K - One cash purse awarded to each of the two teams that make it to their platform bracket finals but lose.
Void in a number of states and where prohibited. Eligibility restrictions apply. For complete tournament rules, please visit http://battlefield.ea.com. (http://battlefield.ea.com./)

It's not open yet, but people should keep tabs on this page (http://arena.gamespy.com/bf2mc/bf2mc_portal.aspx) if they want to get in when it does open. I checked the forums to see if there was a time listed and the only thing I saw was countless posts complaining about stats and lag.

I'm kind of surprised they aren't doing this with the apparently far superior PC version.

Because if you read the rules (#5), it states that they reserve the right to cancel the contest at any time. Can you imagine the hell EA would get from the PC community if they pulled a stunt like that? It's bad enough that people are still complaining about balancing issues on a day to day basis, and I think they realize that.

Plus, it's a very clever way of getting people to rush out and pick up the game for the console before the X360 version arrives. Assuming that they don't cancel the contest halfway through, your odds of winning are pretty damn good considering the cash prizes are being offered seperately for both the PS2 and Xbox.

wow - how retarded. The winner of the xbox bracket and the winner of the sony bracket willl compete. How exactly will the team who has to play on the less familiar console beat those who get to use their normal controllers? That would be a pretty big advantage for one of the teams - are they allowed a few weeks to retrain for the other console or something?

Oh, wait...you raise a good point. This is EA we're talking about. Since when have they ever given a shit about their customers?

I'm kind of surprised there isn't some stipulation about losers having to surrender their corporeal bodies to EA for processing or something.

Yeah, i'm not touching this game till it either drops to sub 40 bucks, OR, till the 360 version. This is comming from a huge BF fanboy, that bought all the BF:1942 x-packs, and the game that most of you seem to hate, BF:V, and yes i'll buy special forces, unless i hear it absolutly blows.

Yeah. Because other big (or small) competitions NEVER have those kind of rules and stipulations. Just EA ones. Bastards.

Were you born stupid or is it something you've just picked up along the way?

Good business by EA. You probably get higher interest, greater coverage and greater good will (shameless retarded EA haterz aside) with $400k or so spent this way than on traditional advertising and marketing.
