The director of the game announced that Tekken 6 will launch in the fall of 2009 and will appear on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360. While Tekken 6 was never announced for the PS3 exclusively, this will be the first time a mainstream Tekken game has appeared on a non-Playstation platform.
Gamespot had the original video interview with the Tekken 6 director at Namco headquarters in Japan but it has since been removed. Someone uploaded a Youtube video of the same interview which can be found here:

Another coup for Microsoft, no matter how uninspired the game itself looks.

It is just ...odd? Much like ff but to a lesser extent, and in other ways more so.
Well, least they can hopefully make some extra cash of it.
Smart business move but Im a vf guy.

The director had already stated that they were thinking about bringing it to other consoles since the hardware wasn't specifically tied to PS3. Also most Playstation fans are Tekken fans so I don't think this will have much effect anyways. I guess it is good that more people get to play it, but you better buy a stick for your Box.

I always find Tekken more fun than the others, generally because it's more friendly to button mashers I think. I've already played a bit of Tekken 6 and it looks nice but certainly not revolutionary.

If only the 360's d-pad wasn't awful this might be great news.
I love that controller for the most part, but the D-pad is a sore spot.

VGChartz gives sales numbers of the PS2 Tekken 5 as being pretty similar to the combined 360/PS3 sales of Soul Calibur 4 (I would have compared it more reasonably to Soul Calibur 3, a PS2 exclusive but they weren't available for some reason). About 1.6m in each case.

what I am saying is this isn't big news at all. No one but fanboys gives a shit. Ok fanboys and the bean counters. All this does is arouse the knee-jerk reactions of both sides of the PS3/360 factions. No one who counts gives a crap.

There had been talk of 4(?) appearing on the Dreamcast ages ago, but obviously it never materialized. I was never sure if it was a conscious decision to keep it with the PS or Namco just giving it up as a bad idea.

I was writing a post telling how I care, but I realized that no matter what I said, you wouldn't see my point, and to top it, I don't care that you don't care, so I'll just stop it here.

Well, for me, Tekken is my fighter of choice, and the fact that it's now coming to the 360 (which I own) as well as the PS3 (which I don't) is of interest to me. As always, when one of these previous Sony exclusives goes 360 then it's one less reason to own a PS3. Not to say that there aren't tons of great reasons to own a PS3, just that this might be, an admittedly extremely small, factor in someone's buying decision including my own.

I beleive PS3 is supposed to be getting Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion (http://sdtekken.com/2008/10/07/tekken-6-not-coming-to-ps3-but-bloodline-rebellion-is/) as an exclusive.
Supposed to be the arcade version with more content.

based on the title it's probably bullshit.
TEKKEN 6 Not Coming To PS3! But Bloodline Rebellion Is!
Yet the video just showed PS3 before Xbox 360.

The bolded part... is should you have a 360, relative to the PS2, 120 million people don't.
I never understand making that point out to be such a radical thing... the only one who could lose exclusives this gen was Sony - they had 90% of them last gen. Naturally the PS3 wasn't going to have the PS2 type lead, and naturally with rising costs more games are multiplatform.
Now, had Tekken 6 only hit 360 - then you'd have some real noteworthy news.

I will get this and further my fascination and frustration with fighting games, despite not being any good at them whatsoever.

Seriously... This is huge for me. I've been a Tekken fan for a long time. This was one of the three games that I was going to buy a PS3 for (The other 2 being FF13 and MGS4).

I understand your point, but to other gamers this is a major announcement and to gamers that have neither an Xbox 360 or a PS3, this could be a deciding factor.
Considering the fact that there are lots of gamers who are PlayStation fans for the exclusives, Tekken and Final Fantasy are major reasons to own a PS3. This is a big deal because both franchises were PlayStation so long that noone expected them to go anywhere. Now both titles will be releasing on the Xbox 360 - which costs fully half of what the PS3 costs.
You can buy an Xbox 360 with both games, and still have enough left to buy pizzas - instead of buying a PS3.
Also taking the economy into effect, people are going to want to spend less. The 360 is definitely starting to look like more of an option to people who want to spend the least amount of money. That's just my opinion, though.

Only fanboys care? NOBODY cares?
It never ceases to amaze me how trolls love to troll, troll, troll. Tekken is one of the most successful fighting game franchises in existence. If you don't like a game or series, don't post in threads about them putting down the game/series and/or people who do.
Now, as far as the game, Tekken has the flow, VF has the balance. As a competitve Tekken player, I REALLY hope this installment is more balanced and that the shitty hit detection and physics that plagued the last one have been cleaned up.
Also, I believe this game will test the sales of the PS3 compared to the 360. Tekken's home has been a Sony machine forever. The controls and everything that goes alogn with it fits well. The 360 has a shitty D-Pad that will SURELY turn off some people from buying it (IMO, the only good option will be buying an Arcade Stick). In all honesty, it should sell better on the PS3. Then again, how many more people have 360's than PS3s? Then AGAIN, how many people with a 360 will want to buy/play Tekken?
We'll see.

wow what is Sony doing this generation? Tekken and Final Fantasy on 360? So when do we get our MGS4 port...
Anyway 360 is really looking better and better to much games and so little time :S

You are right about clayfighter but will it have the level of "level interactivity" that this game, i feel it is very comparable to the MK: Deception in the level of arena Interactivity. Back in the day you could perform a certain move and blow another character through a wall or down a floor or up a floor but it didnt affect the gameplay whereas MK: Deception, you could easily land yourself into a machine or a pit of spikes or ect and die.

Not to turn this thread into the console war it has the potential to be, but whenever I see this argument I have to mention that Arcade units don't even come with half of the features that a PS3 comes with (Blu Ray, HDD, internet browser, free PSN, more hardware reliability, etc.)
The 360's been around enough holiday season for deal-hunting shoppers to realize the implications of "core" and "arcade" SKUs, just like they've realized by now that the PS3 is the best valued, fully-featured BR player on the market. An Arcade 360 not only can't play BR movies, but it can't even play all 360 games or enjoy all the functions of XBL! Buyer beware, indeed.

Hey, it's still nice for people who like Tekken to have the choice to buy it. I bought the PSN version and quite enjoyed it. Yes, it's getting on a bit, but it was still fun.

Oh, I wasn't trying to turn it into a console war thread, just pointing out why having Tekken 6 multiplatform is a radical move that could affect sales, etc.
Being a 360/PS3/Wii owner, I'm well aware of the differences in consoles. I was just trying to point out what possible 360 or PS3 gamers would have to weigh in on come console purchasing time.
And that's even if they get a console. The world economy isn't the best, if you know what I mean. ;)
