PSPDistro (http://www.pspdistro.com/site/modules/news/article.php?storyid=189) has what it claims to be a pic of the upcoming PSP headset that includes a microphone for voice chat. The first game that will utilize it is supposed to be the new SOCOM title for PSP coming out in a few weeks.
Those headphones look ugly and uncomfortable. I wonder if we'll see a VOIP type application.

I don't get portable multiplayer gaming. You'd have to find a wireless internet connection on the go and then you'll need a while to actually connect to a server and start playing some. Seems to defeat the purpose of portability. Might as well play your PS2 and a game that isn't stripped down.

I don't know, I used to have a pair of Sony headhphones similar in design and they were pretty comfortable. That's not to say I wouldn't prefer an IEM design similar to this (http://www.headphone.com/products/headphones/in-ear-monitor/etymotic-research-ety-com.php).
A VOIP would be extremely useful in Korea where they have decent wireless coverage. Here, not so much.

It's annoying enough b eing on the bus with Johnny-Cellphone-Guy as he's trying to have a conversation. Can you imagine being next to someone playing a game?
"Pwnd bitch!"
"What?! Fucking cheater!"
"You suck!"
Imagine the idiots the idiots you hate to run into on Live sitting beside you on the bus.

Imagine the idiots the idiots you hate to run into on Live sitting beside you on the bus.
Then you hire a private dick to take them out, or completely corrupt their xbox, which means more Live fun with less idiots. :D

I don' think those look ugly and uncomfortable. But before we go jumping to conclusions, the PSP needs actual games to use this peripheral, and if Socom is the only one I'm sensing a short lifespan.

Good gawd! This is an idea that should have been in the cards with the launch of the PSP. Typing on the PSP is the WORST implementation of a virtual keyboard I have EVER seen!
It's downright amazing how bad they made it.

At this very moment I'm wearing headphones with a very similar design (i.e. wrap around the back of your ears). Not uncomfortable at all, they're the only pair I've worn that don't bother my ears after 30 minutes of use. But I'm sure your snap judgment is more reliable.

I dunno... aside from the point Dabombpizza made, I dislike the headphone solutions that involve clipping something over your ear... the shit gives me a headache within 10 minutes. I must have a weird nerve or something in my ear flaps that gets pinched.
and Ludoc: Funniest visual I had all day, LMAO! thanks!

Clip-on headphones are not ideal for those wearing glasses.
